Quote : | "It's a comic-book tale, but Nolan promises that "Batman Begins," which also stars Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman, won't look anything like a comic-book movie. In contrast to the gothic fantasia of Burton's creation, Nolan has opted for gritty urban realism. At a converted airplane hangar an hour north of London, his crew has built a full city block of Gotham, much of it based on the towering slums of Kowloon in Hong Kong, which were razed in 1994. But the starting point for his vision, the director says, was the new Batmobile. Last year Nolan holed up in his garage in Los Angeles with production designer Nathan Crowley and hammered out a design that would make sense for the story. What they came up with is a drastic departure. The vehicle's rear is stacked with four 44-inch Humvee tires, and the front is covered in jagged plates of armor. It looks like something Pablo Picasso might take to a monster-truck rally—a muscle car for a tortured soul. Perfect for Batman." |

With all the stuff I has hearing about the movie, I kind of expected a stripped-down, back-to-basics batsuit. I was really hoping for the gray and black suit from the comics (something like the one from the "Batman: Dead End" fanfilm). Seeing another suit just like the same ones they've been using is just disappointing. 7/28/2004 9:17:23 AM |

The explanation for the car is this: The new Batmobile, which began life as a Wayne Industries military prototype called The Tumbler, is 2.5 tons, 15 feet long, and has a 350-cubic-inch Chevy engine capable of 500 horsepower. It is equipped with front-firing machine guns, a landing hook and, as you can see, 4 rear super swamper tires.
The Caped Crusader's vehicle is also taking a page from Knight Rider's KITT. Batman Begins producer Charles Roven told the NY Daily News that the car can turbo boost. "It has to get up to 220 mph to get airborne, but then it can jump 20, 30, maybe 40 feet," Roven said. To perform this gravity-defying act, the Batmobile utilizes its jet engine and vector controls. 7/28/2004 9:18:23 AM |
