I saw it a few days ago. I had very little prior info about it going in, and was very pleased. Very dark, very film noir. It stuck to its comic book roots well (I haven't read any of the graphic novels, but I have a bunch of Frank Miller's other stuff and it has the same feel).

I loved the way it was "shot". It's like someone took the time to do Sky Captain the way it should have been done. Some of the dialogue was cheesy, but overall I was psyched and left the theater wanting to see more. I heard there were many other Sin City stories, so this leaves it wide open for sequels.

P.S. Mickey Rourke is great, Bruce Willis is pretty good, and Clive Owen's accent(?) was awful.

Just saw it. Very unique movie. I personally thought it was awesome. Very violent, but for some reason, I didn't think it was that bad. I must be really desensitized to violence. Very funny too...if you can handle the gore, go see this.

The violence doesn't bother you, because at no point does it feel like the real world.

I found that some of it was difficult to listen to (Michael Madsen as Hartigan's partner. . . could not pull off the comic-y dialogue) -- but the men were all superb (Hartigan, Jackie Boy, Marv, all perfect).
I expected more from the women, more specifically, I guess, Rosario Dawson. I just didn't feel like she gave that character justice. Elijah Wood was fun to watch as Kevin, even though I had to laugh through some of those scenes -- it's hard not to, the way his jumping was filmed. And Jessica Alba exceeded my expectations; she pulled off a nice Nancy.

i agree that madsen's voice seemed really awkward at the begining of the movie, but when it came back to him at the end it didnt seem so out of place.

but overall i fucking loved the movie

I never read the comics so I only had an idea of what to expect. Story-wise, it was a bit corny. The lines, the acting, and the stories were a bit over the top. I'm sure it was always meant that way, but still...

I was more interested in the visual aspects of the film. For a film shot entirely in front of a green screen, it looked very good. For the most part, you couldn't really tell, unlike that "Sky Captain" garbage.

Still, they should've worked on some of the parts where characters are jumping/being tossed around. Those parts looked AWFUL.

I've never even heard of Frank Miller(not a Comics guy) but this movie was quality. The sole part about Marv is worth the movie ticket. I was completely blown by this movie, just amazing.

So I was at the theatre watching the movie and right after the girl cuts the guys head off with her sword, bam...fire alarm. Entire theatre is evacuated. Good news is I got a free pass, so I'll get to watch the fun beginning parts again.

was a pretty unique film!

im not sure what all the critics are saying yet,

but i thought its visual style was pretty tight

elijah wood was mawfawkin Harry Potter in the film - that part was ridiculous, but the rest of it was pretty decent

Awesome movie, plain and simple. For those who think it was over the top its because it is a comic book. Comic books do have corny lines and things like that but you couldn't be any more truthful to the books.

The comic book wasn't intended to be corny just because of the fact that it was a comic book. If anything Frank Miller was trying to make a comic book that broke the molds of the medium. The dialog is corny because they were trying for a very stylized noir voice.

still corny

I laughed through many of the serious scenes. For instance, the prostitute showdown. It was just like some stupid women in prison movie from the 70's.

They took place in SIN CITY. That's really the only connection any of these stories have. The movie was not intended to be one singular story told in three parts.

well the three main parts all kinda tied together

like they were in the same bar but the part in the very beginning where he shot the woman then at the end in the elevator like there wasnt much sense to that

The connections between the stories were basically superficial. SIN CITY was an anthology of stories that happen in Sin City. There isn't really a "big picture" that results from telling all three stories as one piece.

It was awesome, it was fucking awesome. The only performance I didn't like was Murphy's but I'll let it slide for the otherwise sustained level of awesome.
