quit bitching. I paid premie for a year, did nto use it, let it drop. If you want to hsot an ungodly numebr of pictures on the interent for a flat fee, you can do so on TWW. You jsut cannot use TWW as part of your buisness/ebay shit in order to use their bandwidth instead of yours. I never saw it explicitly stated that you could or could not link DIRECTLY to pictures form outside the site on the user agreement untill now. Looks liek they had a problem, problem now fixed. Not liek everyoen is going to leave, they will jstu quit payign extra for the same service, not get chatterbox, and quit embedding shit.

We didn't give notice because:

1. The hotlinking service was never advertised or implied. I had no idea that it existed to the extend that it did. We did most of our monitoring on dynamic content, not static.

2. We didn't have time. My provider doubled my bandwidth prices and I don't have time to give weeks of notice when this is costing me a shitload of $$$.

3. I really didn't think it would affect much of anyone.

4. I am quite pissed off at some of the hotlinking that was going on. There were several people that probably costed me $50-100 a piece. Do you think I can collect? No. I think they got their money's worth

Dude, I've been 'contributing' for a couple years now. I don't show people my pics and don't embed pics on other forums/website, etc. It's just the fact that I don't have the option to show someone my gallery that I find disgruntling.

overall I think what happened was shit. I am all for keeping costs down, but giving us all the stick for it isn't cool, especially without no notice.

Now the Photo Galleries don't work and one wouldn't even notice until they clicked on it. And you can't say it isn't affecting people much. One of the reasons I personally signed up for premie was the extra folders in the photo gallery since:

I never used it, but now I can't. So I paid for something and then I can't do it anymore. It doesn't matter I never did it prior, I paid for that option up front.

Now if some people were costing you $50-$100 and you have proof, then go after them and make them stop. Don't punish me, someone who paid for premie and isn't using practically any of the benefits.

Typing up a notice of a change, either pm or story on the main page takes less than five minutes. Do it next time and I will assure you fewer people will be pissed.

The photo galleries should still work. There is nothing that should prevent them from working. You can link directly into any gallery or folder on the site. You can give the URLs to all of your friends and they can still view the galleries just as before. You can even save the pictures and send them to your friends.

The difference is that you cannot 'hotlink' to the images, that is post or use the picture on another site and use The Wolf Web's bandwidth to serve the image to everyone that goes to that site.

We simply don't have the bandwidth to continue to allow this. We have been capped by our provider which causes considerable slowness for people browsing the site. Our provider has also doubled our costs for bandwidth overage. The changes we have made should alleviate a lot of the speed problems experienced over the past few months.

We have done many other things to cut down on bandwidth also. We are applying compression to all HTML transmission, which has cut page bandwidth by approximately 80%. We have optimized caching directives. We have included a favicon to cut down on miscellaneous requests. We have done a lot of things hoping that we wouldn't have to cripple functionality, but it wasn't enough!
