Where did DJ Roit go? I don't see him on the DJ schedule and all I hear on Tuesday nights now is Spunky and she just plays D&B.

Riot was/is the best DJ I have heard on there. He plays amazing trance and knows how to mix well. It always made my hour and a half drive to work enjoyable listening to knc when he was on. What's up?

I'm not sure if someone brought this up yet or not...I have yet to read the entire thread.

Back in the '96-'98 era WKNC was the best station bar none. They played a variety of metal music (non-death) from the morning until early afternoon. Friday was still dedicated to "chainsaw rock" if I remember correctly.

That was back when if they played a station identification that compared WKNC music to music being played on other stations you actually agreed with the announcer - that WKNC rocked. Now if they play a station identification that samples typical WKNC music and compares it to other stations I find myself changing the station.

Once upon a time WKNC played as much a variety of metal as they do indie music today. I personally can't stand indie music. 95% of the time there is a reason that the band remains an indie band (they are not any good). WKNC fell into the trap of playing indie music just for the sake of playing indie music. How about playing something that is decent instead of playing what is trendy.

On one hand I can't blame WKNC. Music in general these days is terrible. The music the labels are cranking out is solving the P2P problem in and of itself. Music isn't even worth a free download nowadays. Then again WKNC was the only _only_ station playing metal back in the mid to late 90's. I'm sure there were people exactly like me complaining about how much metal stinks back then. Oh well.

I agree about the Friday night metal music. Who listenes to the radio on a Friday night? Plus there is little variety. I like to hear more than just death metal. I'm sure WKNC could find it in their hearts to play something other than indie music during the daylight hours of every weekday.

When I worked up there I would mix in shit like Helmet, Down, Fear Factory in with Clutch, Pantera, <insert indie song here>, and even the likes of Cradle of Filth during the day. It became pretty clear to me during this time that they didn't care about being unique unless it was a weekend. "Stick to rotation, you only get 4 songs an hour" which included requests, by the way.

I was pulling around 40 hours/week there when we won the best station in the triangle from spectator. I still credit that award to two people; Neeraj and N-tice.

I got so many calls from people when I worked. It was pretty fun.

I don't know who it was, but there used to be a guy who would play whatever the fuck he wanted from like 3-6 AM, and after every song he was SCREAMING into the mike. Things like "WOOOO, THAT WAS SOME ROCKIN' PAVEMENT, NEXT UP WE'VE GOT SOME REALLY ROCKIN' OLD METALLICA, AND THEN IMA GONNA ROCK YOU WITH FAT-BOTTOMED GIRLS, SO CALL ME UP AND KEEP A-ROCKIN'."

To this day, that is the greatest thing I've heard on KNC. I listened every night for two weeks, and he was gone as quickly as he had appeared.
