just thought i'd point out that the new book is debuting at 40% off at barnes and noble and pretty much everywhere else.

I get my additional 20% for employee discount though.

the plot summary has been released (beware it may contain spoilers, although I didn't really find any of it too spoilerish)

So I reserved my book at Books-A-Millon, and some friends want us to go to the midnight book party at Barnes & Noble. Grrr. I wasn't planning on picking up my book at midnight anyway, but now I'll be somewhere that everybody is getting their book but me.

Interesting article about Harry Potter and Christianity
http://www.veritaserum.com/info/christians/

JKR posted the answer to the question "How do the Order of the Phoenix members communicate with each other" on her site:

I was surprised that this particular question won the poll, because the answer (as I've already said) can be found in an already-published book (Goblet of Fire), whereas the other two questions related to book six. But perhaps I was influenced by the fact that I knew the other two questions had interesting answers – and, of course, you will shortly know the answers to those questions anyway!

Members of the Order use their Patronuses to communicate with each other. They are the only wizards who know how to use their spirit guardians in this way and they have been taught to do so by Dumbledore (he invented this method of communication). The Patronus is an immensely efficient messenger for several reasons: it is an anti-Dark Arts device, which makes it highly resilient to interference from Dark wizards; it is not hindered by physical barriers; each Patronus is unique and distinctive, so that there is never any doubt which Order member has sent it; nobody else can conjure another person's Patronus, so there is no danger of false messages being passed between Order members; nothing conspicuous needs to be carried by the Order member to create a Patronus.

And, as many of you have deduced, Dumbledore's Patronus is indeed a phoenix.

^ I read that. I dont even remotely recall that ever being said or hinted at in HP GOF. I guess I need to read it for the 4th time then.

^^, ^^^ She showed it to us in the scene in GoF where Barty Crouch Sr. was killed. Harry and Dumbledore find Victor Krum stunned and Dumbledore send for Hagrid by shooting what looks like a silvery arrow from his wand in the direction of Hagrid's hunt. As it turns out, the silvery arrow was a quick moving phoenix patronus.

^Interesting. Very keen.

Question: Do they explain in the series how wizards can do spells without saying them aloud?

^ Not as of yet. We don't know for sure even if it can or can't be done. It has never been expressedly said that any spell was done without an incantation.

I've always wondered that. It seems only the adults have been able to do it:
Mrs. Weasley when she cooks
Dumbledore sending out his patronous
Tonks when shes stuffing Harrys stuff into his trunk (HP OOTP)

it took me a Saturday and Sunday to read OotP and that was like 800 pages compared to the 672ish of HBP

Weird. They sold two different editions of it here, an adult one and a children's one.

the only difference from the children's edition is that the dustjacket has a different design. The contents are the same.

they have "children's" editions for all of the books

i'm at barnes and noble working right now, laughing at all these dumb ass people who, instead of waiting in line for 5 hours for the special midnight release of harry potter, could just take their asses to the wal mart 5 minutes down the road and grab a copy of the book for a lower price at midnight when they roll the pallets out.
