last episode was cool. i like the scene where starbuck is walking away from the card table and she gets that "oh no, I'm going to have to choke a bitch" look on her face.

also, couldn't they have used the wreckage of all the cyclon ships they just destroyed to make new raiders? Why didn't they save some of the cyclon ships for study and use?

OK, here goes the rundown on Commander Cain and the Battlestar Pegasus.

Cain was played by Lloyd Bridges. I suppose the best description for how he played the character was much like Patton in WWII. Cain was regarded as a tactical genius, and every officer under his command was unswervingly loyal because they all knew that no matter how bad things looked, Cain would see them through it.

In the episodes "The Living Legend" (1 & 2), Apollo and Starbuck come across 2 Colonial Vipers while out flying a long distance recon patrol. The Vipers are part of the elite Silver Spar squadron (led by Sheba, Cain's daughter), which is attached to the Battlestar Pegasus. Apollo and Starbuck are taken aboard and meet Cain face-to-face. Cain can't believe another Battlestar survived the assault on Caprica, and he is immediately feeling confident that two Battlestars could do some serious damage against the Cylons. Turns out that as soon as Caprica was assaulted, Cain knew that staying behind was a lost cause and so he took the Pegasus WAY out into deep space. The Pegasus had been performing hit-and-run assaults against Cylon positions ever since the Colonies fell, and have had many successes under Cain's command.

When Apollo and Starbuck return to the fleet, Adama is overjoyed to learn that another warship survived because now it will make the fleet's retreat much easier. Cain disagrees and insists that both Battlestars go on the offensive. Adama won't allow it, and requests that Cain assist in using the Pegasus' fuel stores to help refuel the fleet ships. Cain won't allow it and instead suggests that they assault a nearby Cylon refueling convoy since there's a fuel depot on the nearest planet. During the sortie, Cain (who is flying point) attacks and destroys the refueling tanker. Apollo reports this to Adama, and Adama realizes that Cain did it because he is so eager to take down the fuel depot itself instead of just settling on a convoy. During all of this, the Council of the Twelve begin to believe that Cain would be a much better leader than Adama, and vote that Adama step down and allow Cain to lead. Adama very reluctantly does so, but knows that Cain is a loose cannon and is used to managing only his Battlestar and not the entire civilian fleet - and the fleet is in no condition to go into battle alongside the Pegasus.

All this time, Baltar has been plotting his coup de grace to wipe out the Galactica in order to impress the Cylon Imperious Leader. He personally leads a huge wave of Raiders against the Galactica, but is shocked to find that the Pegasus is with the fleet now. Baltar is very, very afraid of Cain because he knows that Cain knows that Baltar betrayed the Colonial military, and Cain will be out to get some payback. Baltar runs like a bitch, and this makes Cain even more gung-ho to raid the fuel depot AND take down the Cylon fighter garrison on the nearest planet. Baltar assembles a group of 3 Base Stars to go after the Pegasus, and Cain orders Adama to send a strike force to the fuel depot to gather enough fuel to resupply the entire fleet. While the strike force mission is underway, Cain knows that he's the only one who can hold off all 3 Base Stars long enough to give the Galactica and the fleet a chance to escape. He sends all non-essential crew - as well as Silver Spar squadron and Sheba - to the Galactica since it looks like the defense of the fleet will be a one-way trip. Cain goes toe-to-toe with the first 2 Base Stars and completely nukes both of them before setting his sights on Baltar's Base Star. In a very strange bit of cheese, Cain launches nukes at point-blank range against Baltar's Base Star, and everything pretty much gets vaporized.

Sadly, Cain's final fate is not known... but it's not made clear that the Pegasus was destroyed. Apollo and Starbuck report that they believed it had jumped to lightspeed just before spanking Baltar. Sadly, Baltar wasn't killed, but he also never indicates that he knows what happened to Cain, either. It's a safe bet that if Baltar survived, Cain obviously did as well.

I would like to think that they would change it so we can get either some more characters or at least more situations/conflicts with 2 battlestars. I mean having it around with the fleet or not makes for extension of plot lines

Yeah, I am certainly curious to see what the writers will do with the Pegasus. One thing which I already know is very different this time around is that Cain is an Admiral and is Adama's superior officer. This was not so in the original show. Looks like she's gonna boss Adama around a bit. I am also wondering if Cain will have any kids as pilots. Sheba and Apollo eventually developed a relationship, but I seriously doubt that'll be the case this time around.

I would say what I'm wondering about most of all, though, is whether or not the Pegasus is a "newer" Battlestar, and if so, how did it manage to overcome the initial cyber attack by the Cylons? There's something about this which just doesn't seem quite right.

If Cain is indeed as smart as you say she is, she could have un-networked the computers as a personal preference way before the inital attack.

Or jumped before the cylons broadcast the shutdown command, then having received reports of what happened to all the other battlestars, corrected the problem on her ship.

She would had to of jumped almost as soon as the cylons appeared.

And from what little I saw of the new battlestar, it seems alot different, making it new. It actually looked alot like a Drednaught from star wars.

I thought all the battlestars were resistant to that shutdown code except for the fighters onboard. I figured the other battlestars just got blownup by shear numbers, not the shutdown code.

Season one comes out on DVD today!

Something which REALLY bugs me is why, when faced with about 100 apparently inert Raiders and heavy Raiders, would you destroy them instead of attempting to capture them? I know, I know, it's easy to have a jerk reaction to "get some payback," but I'm just thinking that surely if Starbuck can capture, rework, and fly one all by herself, then it's just too many good Trojan Horses going to waste. If nothing else, those Raiders would at least have fuel and munitions which could be cannibailzed. I guess it might have just been too high a security risk to try it, though...

The one thing which I was most interested in seeing in this past episode was that Boomer finally showed that the Cylon infiltrators are apparently like Terminators. I have seen lots of theories as to how the infiltrators are actually not as much machine as we'd think, but now this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I still can't understand why technicians and engineers haven't gone completely Area 51 on the "assassin" Boomer's body in an effort to devise better countermeasures against infiltration.

The last episode was badass. The attempted rape and subsequent beatdown was intense.

the Sci-Fi does this stupid thing of splitting seasons up by 3+ months at a time. so this is actually the "summer" finale with the season resuming in January. they do this with stargate as well. Battlestar season 2 should actually be 20 episodes long

It's good to see a thread on this show.

- Season 2 has been a great continuation of season 1. The series took a breath of air during 2x11 'Colonial Day' then went through 1x12-13 and 2x07 while keeping the dramatic tension very high. In terms of closure from season 1, the show has just recently gotten settled down into it's second season.

- Cain says that Pegasus avoided the Cylon 'kill' broadcast because they jumped immediately as the other ships in the yard got hit. The other ships were getting hammered while docked at the yard, and the only way to get out of there alive was to execute an immediate blind jump. What's more interesting to me, and this might be too nitpicky, is how Pegasus was able to stay supplied when it lacked the other specialized ships that Adama's fleet had.

- If Adama gets promoted, does that mean Cain might die?

- I also lost track of time during 2x10.

- They did an autopsy on the assassin Boomer. You can see the distinctive 'Y' cut when Adama visits her body in the morgue.

- Random trivia: The actor who plays the Viper pilot 'Hotdog' is Bodie James Olmos. Yeah. Adama's *real* son. And the paramedic who had to operate on Adama in 2x01? Jamie Barber's (Lee Adama) real wife.

Remember the episode where they announce to the public that cylon agents look like humans? They had a whiteboard with pictures of Doral (guy who was left on Ragnar) and Leobon (guy who was found on Ragnar).

Anyway, I'm surprised that Adama and Cain haven't compared the different cylon models they have seen. At least it'd be neat to see what cylon agents Cain has discovered (other than Six).

I still have yet to understand who left Adama the message indicating that there are 12 Cylon models. Better yet, why was it left? I'd guess that Shelly/Six did it, but I have no clue why other than to try to instill paranoia in the CO of the fleet.
