Hey, does anybody have any idea how to do part one? In reference to the damping term...How do we add it into the matrix? Do we assume X(t)=Xsin(wt+0)..or do we make another assumption???

i thought for that one you were supposed to ignore damping

not sure where to go from that really though

So does anyone possibly know how to do this extra credit part. I got some type of graph for the bouncing, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the pitching graph.

Thanks.

im pretty sure he just meant a 1 degree of freedom system with damping from chapters 2 or 3. and he said it may or may not be forced.

Does anyone have any idea what types of problems from the book to study for this final exam?

Thanks.

Yeah he said that the damped problem would be from Ch.2-3 in the old book. That is basically the Zhi stuff etc. Then there will be a problem on gears, problem for mass balancing and linkage problem. Did anybody catch anything other than this in class? Good luck everyone.

what does second order mean though?

also for dynamic balancing... doesn't the w^2 cancel out of the problem all together for the sum of the forces and moment problem? he didn't solve it that way in class. Can anyone explain when you need to keep it in there and when you can cancel it out?

w^2 cancels out when it is a problem with all masses rotating around the thing. if its like the tire balancing problem where the forces come from whatever is holding it in place they dont cancel because not all the terms have a w^2.

for one of the gear examples we did in class, the one where we are trying to find w2 for a given w7, and then w7 for a given w2, in part a he somehow makes the assumption that w4=0=w2...where did that come from?
