Version 4.1

the stuff in bold is new from last sunday's version

I assume steelers are going to lose to the seahawks.

Also I will assume a trade between the Jets and the 49ers swapping 1sts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2006 Draft Order

1. Houston - Reggie Bush, RB USC (Kubiak wants Bush)

2. New Orleans - Matt Leinart, QB USC (he is still the best QB in the draft and is a pocket passer, somthing the Aints wished theyve had while putting up with aaron brooks)

3. Tennessee - Vincent Young, QB Texas ( McNair has tutored him for a while, now he gets the chance to keep the starting spot warm for vince until he's ready. Although I'd laugh my ass off if houston picks young)

4. *San Francisco* - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OL UVA (I believe this is too high for an OL unless he is a for sure Orlando Pace or Jonathan Odgen, but its the 49ers, they must protect their investment (Alex Smith))

5. Green Bay - Mario Williams, DE NCSU (still Poor Mario )

6. Oakland - AJ Hawk, LB Ohio St (Not only does he look like an oldschool raider from the tecmo bowl era, the raiders need LBs badly)

7. *NY Jets*- DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis (Not a bad situation for the Jets, they trade down and get the best rb in the draft. When Martin leaves after 2006, Williams will be ready)

8. Buffalo - Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon (New Bills coach Jauron is a Defensive coach. They would jump at the chance to get Ngata after badly missing Pat Williams this year and with Sam Adams going into his 14th pro year.)

9. Detroit - Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt (HUGE senior bowl week, now the lions wont be able to trade down and still get him)

10. Arizona - Vernon Davis, TE UMD (This pick gives Denny Green maybe one of the best WRs/TE group in the NFL. Davis is a perfect fit for the Denny Green system in Arizona. He will probably go for a RB in rd 2 again this year as Arrington hasnt panned out so far)

11. St. Louis - Michael Huff, CB/S Texas (What dont the Rams need help at on defense? But this will provide an immediate starter in their secondary)

12. Cleveland - Tamba Hali, DE Penn St. (Mebbe 2nd time will be a charm for the browns drafting penn state DE's. Cleveland needs a pass rusher.)

13. Baltimore - Winston Justice, OT USC (With Ogden and Brown getting into their 11th nfl season next year, Baltimore will need help on their OL, and with Justice they get another athletic tackle in the Ogden mold)

14. Philadelphia - Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio St (With the departure of TO, the eagles are stuck at WR. Reggie brown isnt the answer, neither is pinkston. Holmes gives McNabb a solid down the field threat and is a solid blocker, which is needed in the Eagles offensive scheme)

15. Atlanta - Ko Simpson, S S. Carolina (The Falcons badly need safety help, lucky for them they can grab the 2nd best safety in the draft)

16. Miami - Orien Harris, DT Miami (I really think the Dolphins will make a move for a QB already in the NFL way b4 the draft starts(culpepper anyone?). So with this pick they shore up their interior D-line and add depth to a spot whose starters will be turning 36 and 37 this year. Harris has impressed in recent workouts.)

17. Minnesota - Laurence Maroney, RB Minnesota (With onterrio smith gone, bennett going to be gone and moe williams a FA, the vikings have a chance to add a REAL starting RB who will be able to open up the passing game for Daunte Culpepper, who may or may not be there. It also helps that Maloney went to UMinnesota)

18. Dallas - Marcus McNeill, OT Auburn ( gotta help Bledsoe and his slow release)

19. San Diego - Ernie Sims, LB Florida St. (Perfect fit for Marty's 3-4 D on the other side of Merriman and Marty has a way with other troublemakers)

20. Kansas City - Sinorice Moss, WR Miami (Moss also had a HUGE senior bowl week, and with his speed, will nicely compliment eddie kennison in an offense that really needs a true #1 WR)

21. New England - Manny Lawson, DE/LB NCSU (Manny has done well for himself in the camps, and accordingly moves up into the 1st round to a team who appreciates character as much as athletic ability. Manny has both.)

22. Denver(from WAS) - Jimmy Williams, Safety/CB VT (His 40 time will drop him to about here, but he will be a good NFL safety)

23. Tampa Bay - Thomas Howard, OLB UTEP (LB is a position of need for the bucs, as well as OL, but they are getting the best athlete available and he also fills a need)

24. Cincinnati - Demeco Ryans, ILB Alabama (The bengals NEED defense. Here they get a guy that does not have prototypical speed or size, but is a leader and a smart player. Possibly someone to bring the Defense together at the MLB position)

25. New York Giants - Ashton Youboty, CB Ohio St. (The Giants need defensive help, and having Youboty at CB is insurance in case Will Peterson can not come back at full speed)

26. Chicago - Derek Hagan, WR ASU (Chicago desperately needs a WR to compliment Muhammed, and the Hagan gives them another big receiver perfect for their style of possesion offense)

27. Carolina - Lendale White, RB USC (I really think White made a mistake coming out this year, he would have surely been a top 10 next year. The panthers could definately use him)

28. Jacksonville - Kelly Jennings, CB Miami (Jacksonville desperately needs a solid CB to play on the other side of Rashean Mathis)

29. Denver - Leonard Pope, TE Georgia (A perfect fit for the Broncos, at 6'7" 250, Pope can catch and block(which we all know is important in Denver), not just one or the other like the TE by committee there this year)

30. Indianapolis - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa (With David Thorton likely leaving, this pick makes sense)

31. Pittsburgh - Chad Jackson, WR Florida (With Randel-El possibly headed out, this pick would also make sense)

32. Seattle - Brodrick Bunkley, DT FSU (Seattle needs interior line help. That is where their run defense was exposed many times this season, not to mention the talent level at the DT position is low)

you think carolina's gonna go after another RB early?

thats almost as bad as the saints grabbing ol/dl players with at least 1 day 1 pick every year since 1992 (except for the class of 'ricky)

i think eric shelton will at least get a chance.... who knows though.

well they'll lose foster and davis, so they can easily draft a RB in the first round and have him and shelton play for 1st and 2nd string. i dont want to ignore the other guys like goings and robertson, but i dont think either of them are really the answer.

It's about time you put Ferguson up where he'll be picked. Offensive Tackle is a very important position, probably with QB & DE probably being the only more valuable positions. (You do have 3 OT's in the top 18) The lowest he could possibly be picked is 6th & that would only happen if Cutler goes before. As I said before though, I think someone will move up to 4th to get him & SF certainly could be that team. But the 49ers management doesn't seem to get it & will drop the ball again. Tampa may offer its first this year & next to get him though. Miami may move up also.

Also, Minnesota would be crazy not to take LWhite. I'd say flip the Panthers & Vikes picks. If Minnesota doesn't pick White, someone else will almost certainly move in front of Carolina to get him (GBay swapping it's 2nd with Chicago would make sense as Chicago could still get its WR a few spots later) I agree with your other picks though.

maroney is simply a better prospect

he is faster, and is very strong

not to mention he is from minnesota

all those things point to him going there

not to mention that maroney is the type of rb that would be great on turf.

i strongly disagree

he is probably the 3th best in my opinion

behind williams and maroney

look at the team that white played for

no way he plays that well in a real conference like the big 10 or sec

yes i just took a shot at the Pac 10

Nice mock... but I'd bet my bottom dollar that Bunkley goes before Orien Harris. I'd love it if the Panthers got Lendale, but I doubt he'll last that long. Most mocks I've seen have the Panthers getting a tight end, but I'd much rather see them get a running back.

Wait, you are saying White is overrated b/c he played in the pac 10, yet you are saying Williams is the best even though he played in the fucking CUSA?

White is simply a better prospect than Maroney. Personally I'd take him before Williams, but they're both very close.

if you look what they are saying about williams at the snior bowl, you'd see what im saying. White's strength is his performance during the seasons b/c his 40time etc are so-so

williams ran all over shitty teams but also has had great workouts

Oh, I'm not saying Williams isn't a very good back. I was just saying the reason you listed (Pac10 sucking, which it does) for not liking White were a little questionable & should apply to the other RB's (in an even worse conf.).

Now, the workouts & senior bowl, reason makes sense & I agree to an exent. There is a lot to like about Williams, but I just think he & White are fairly even, with both being a step above Maroney.

Kiper's latest:

Following the week of Senior Bowl practices, there have been some changes to my first-round projection for the 2006 NFL draft. There are 14 underclassmen in this week's projected first round, three fewer than last week.

The top six picks remain the same, but the one newcomer to the top 10 is Texas defensive back Michael Huff. Right now I have him projected to land in San Francisco, which has the seventh overall pick. What I like about Huff is his versatility because he can play either cornerback or safety.

This projected pick reminds me of what the 49ers did in 1981 in a similar situation. In the '81 draft, the 49ers had the eighth overall pick and selected another versatile defensive back: USC's Ronnie Lott.

I will submit another first-round projection following the NFL combine, which is Feb. 22-28 in Indianapolis.

First-Round Projections
1. Houston Reggie Bush, RB* USC
2. New Orleans Matt Leinart, QB USC
3. Tennessee Vince Young, QB* Texas

7. San Francisco Michael Huff, DB Texas
8. Buffalo Haloti Ngata, DT* Oregon
9. Detroit Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt
10. Arizona DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis
11. St. Louis Vernon Davis, TE* Maryland
12. Cleveland Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
13. Baltimore Tamba Hali, DE Penn St.
14. Philadelphia Winston Justice, T* USC
15. Atlanta Jimmy Williams, DB Virginia Tech
16. Miami Ashton Youboty, CB* Ohio St.
17. Minnesota LenDale White, RB* USC
18. Dallas Marcus McNeill, T Auburn
19. San Diego Santonio Holmes, WR* Ohio St.
20. Kansas City Tye Hill, CB Clemson
21. New England Laurence Maroney, RB* Minnesota
22. Denver (from WSH) Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Boston College

mccargo in the 1st round?

Quote :
"He isn't the most heralded defensive line prospect at North Carolina State, but tackle John McCargo, often overshadowed by the Wolfpack's heralded end tandem of Mario Williams and Manny Lawson, isn't quite an unknown, either, to NFL scouts.

McCargo's ascent up draft boards continued this week with a strong performance at the school's pro day workouts, and his audition certainly enhanced the chances that North Carolina State will have three defensive linemen selected in the first round next month. Williams, of course, is a sure bet, an edge player and upfield rusher regarded by many scouts as the premier defensive player in the draft. Lawson is also a pass-rush threat, an outside defender with great explosiveness and closing speed who might best project to linebacker in a 3-4 front. "

here's the rest:

Quote :
"But the hard-working McCargo, who has fully recovered from a stress fracture in his left foot that sidelined him for five games in 2005, is definitely on the rise. Several scouts now list him as the third-best prospect at tackle, behind only Haloti Ngata of Oregon and Florida State's Brodrick Bunkley. And unlike those two, McCargo is more a one-gap player, capable of compressing the pocket from the inside.

"My game has always been about quickness," McCargo said shortly after a pro day workout in which he clocked a 4.94 in the 40. "I really didn't start playing football until the ninth grade and didn't get serious about it until around my junior year [in high school]. But I was a good baseball player and a pretty good basketball player, and some of the traits from those sports, like hand-eye coordination, things like that, kind of carried over onto the football field and helped me a lot."

Scouts agree that one of McCargo's strong suits is his effective use of his hands, often an oversight by young defenders. Watch him on tape, though, and McCargo's hand speed, and ability to get into a blocker's body, is nearly as impressive as his first step forward. That said, McCargo, an underclass prospect, still is very quick off the ball and keeps his feet moving nicely, even when engaged with an opponent.

At a shade under 6-foot-2 and 305 pounds, McCargo isn't as bulky as some of the other tackle prospects in the 2006 draft class. But several franchises, particularly those seeking a one-gap tackle, have now moved him ahead of players such as Michigan's Gabe Watson, Miami's Orien Harris and Texas' Rodrique Wright. Two general managers asked this week about McCargo had him graded in the lower third of the first round, and acknowledged his stock is rising.

"He's a little different than most of the other [tackles]," one general manager said. "Different in a good sort of way because, if you want the upfield guy and not just the run stuffer, there aren't many tackles like him in this year's draft."

An Academic All-American, and an avid but late-blooming student of the game who is now trying to make up for lost time, McCargo understands that Williams and Lawson, flashier players who merit attention by putting the quarterback on the ground, are going to garner most of the headlines. But he understands, too, that there is a place in the NFL for a guy like himself, a hard-working tackle who has made himself into a player and who will soon reap the rewards.

"It never bothered me that people talked so much about Mario and Manny because, I mean, those guys are incredible players," McCargo said. "Playing out on the edge, making big plays in space, you're naturally going to be drawn to those guys. But I was doing some good things, too, inside, and I think the scouts who have done their homework understand that." "
