BMW's CLS fighter

Quote :
"BMW is planning a four-door coupe to compete with the Mercedes CLS-Class, according to the latest issue of Germany's AutoBild magazine. Unlike the CLS, this car will have suicide doors, according to the report. The car has no B-pillar, and is reminiscent of the 1990s BMW 8-Series. In fact, we suspect the only logical nameplate to use for this project would be 8-Series. We have yet to see the full article, so we're not sure when the magazine reckons this "sensational" car will be available. However, we do have a cover scan of the latest issue "

VW Scirocco

Quote :
"Volkswagen confirmed today that it will build a successor to the Scirocco sport coupe at its plant in Setubal, Portugal. "

I really wish you'd format those pictures to fit the page, especially since the BBS on this site is so... not set up?

Anyway, the VW looks great I just hope VW would build something RWD again. I really would consider owning 90% of what they've made since the late 70s if they were RWD... The M3 appears to be a huge let down, hopefully it'll look a bit better when not covered up.

Sorry... I usually don't post pics bigger than 1024 x 768 pixels. Only one pic on this page is slightly bigger, and anyway, most people work with higher resolutions than 1024 x 768 pixels. BTW, I am not premium, so I can't change the size.

Anyway, here are some REAL pictures (not spy photos, not artist renderings):

Mazda MX-5 Folding Hardtop

Quote :
"As reported earlier, here is the first known picture of Mazda’s forthcoming MX-5 folding hardtop. Though details are scarce, the origami lid appears to be a simple two-piece affair with simple articulation required to get it trunkward. As is the way with retractable tin-tops, the MX-5’s lines would also appear to be well-preserved.

No official details yet as to the hardtop’s price (financially or dynamically) or whether the model will come to North America, but look for it in-the-metal at next month’s London Motor Show."

2007 MB CL-Class

[I wish MB would get rid of those HIDEOUS wheels... they have them on the new S-Class also, and everytime I see them on the road, I think, OK, MB made them, but what about the customers? How come they have such horrible taste? Couldn't they get some other wheels from MB?]

SUPRA VERT and Hardtop. V6 or V8 coming in 2007
There will be both coupe and convertible version of the car, probably introduced at the same time. The convertible is reported to have a folding hard top and is intented to be more of a boutique car than a serious sport car. The coupe, however, will be just that, eqquiped with a 5 liter V8 engine producing 450 hp and 383 lbs-ft of torque.

it is expected the V8 Supra to be priced about 50000$. The more affordable Supra (40000$) will come with a 3.5 liter V6, the same powerplant used in the Lexus IS 350 and GS 350, but tuned to produce more power: 350 hp and 275 lbs-ft of torque.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLK 55 AMG "black edition"

Mercedes-Benz today announced a special-edition version of its SLK55 AMG two-seater. The 400hp 'special series' features a non-retratable carbon roof, 19-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG height-adjustable torsion sports suspension and a high-performance composite brake system. The front fenders are now wider and made of the ultra-light carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CRP). The roof is also made of CRP. Power comes from a tuned version of AMG's 5.4-liter V8, which offers 400 hp and 520 NM of torque. The lightweight parts cut about 100lbs from the vehicle's curb weight. Zero to 62 mph takes just 4.5 seconds, down from 4.9, the automaker said. Like the regular SLK 55, this special model uses the 7G-TRONIC transmission with aluminium shift paddles on the steering wheel. A brace in the engine compartment provides additional rigidity and more lateral dynamics. Price in Germany will be 107,300 euros (incl. VAT)

Hulme supercar to see production in 2008

Quote :
"The Hulme supercar by New Zealand firm Super Cars LTD will go into production in 2008, according to gizmag. Jock Fremantle told the publication that the Hulme — which was first previewed over a year ago — would be built in a limited production run of 20 to 30 units. The car will have a 550 horsepower BMW V8 from the previous-generation M5 and will weigh around 2600 pounds. Visually, the car is inspired by an F1 racer. It's name is a tribute to Denny Hulme — one of New Zealand's greatest race car drivers. It will seat two and initially be offered in the U.K. and German markets."

2007 Mini Cooper

Quote :
"Although appearing largely unchanged, the 2007 model is heavily re-engineered, most notably at the front where it receives a longer front overhang and a new hood with round cut outs for the headlamps, which are now fixed in place both in the interest of pedestrian safety and ease of manufacture."

I don't get what that bolded part means. What are fixed in place? The cutouts for the headlamps? The headlamps? Were they not fixed in the previous model?

Blue is Cooper S, red is Cooper.

as much as i like the concept of the smart cars, those things just look like rolling death traps given the size and driving habits of american motorists. i really don't see these staying on the road long with out drastic changes in either infrastructure or lane restrictions.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiasts/Spy_Shots/Spy_Shots_2009_Porsche_Panamera.S178.A10879.html

Looks like another winner (and a huge money-maker) for Porsche, after the Cayenne.

Now let's hope there will be a station wagon, a Cayenne-based pick-up truck, and finally, a minivan!

First ever spy pics of the 2009 Porsche Panamera

Quote :
"Wendelin Wiedeking has just recently announced, in an interview with the German motoring magazine Auto Motor & Sport, that Porsche's new four-door coupe, dubbed Panamera, has begun its testing marathon at the challenging Nuerburgring this week - and we have the first pictures that show the real car in full action.

Scheduled for an official presentation at the 2009 Geneva show, the Panamera is expected to be a strong competitor to the Mercedes CLS and the future Aston Martin Rapide, as well as Volkswagen's upcoming four-door coupe.

Though the Panamera takes over design elements from the 911 range, there will obviously be significant differences. While the 911 has always kept its rear-mounted boxer engine, the Panamera will have a choice of three front-mounted motors, although they'll be set back to the center of the car as much as possible.

The entry-level powerplant will be Volkswagen's 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine with 300 bhp, while Porsche's own drivetrain will be a direct-injection eight-cylinder gas engine, available in naturally-aspirated guise (350 bhp) and with twin turbos (560 bhp). That should be enough to beat out the competition for a while. However, should Stuttgart make the CLS even stronger, Zuffenhausen might strike back with the Porsche GT's 700-bhp ten-cylinder powerplant!

The target for the Panamera is to be a true sportscar, while at the same time being a "family car" for every-day use with four full seats, easy access to the rear, and a good-sized luggage compartment.

When it hits the road in 2009, Porsche hopes to be able to sell 20,000 units annually - and to jump over the barrier of 100,000 sold cars per year."

Should have been a true sedan (like the MB CLS) instead of a hatchback.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/12/22/early-look-jaguar-c-xf-concept/

Leaked pics of Jag's upcoming revolution of the S-Type. To be called XF (in keeping with the XJ and XK). This is the Concept-XF.

Only rarely are models completely redone like that. Mazda 929 (mid-90s) comes to mind.

Looks very BMW 6-ish, but is a sedan. I wonder if the production model would be more or less the same, or extensively toned down.

Quote :
"Images of Ford's new Lincoln MKR Concept have leaked ahead of its official unveiling at the Detroit auto show in early January. The four-door rear-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a 415 horsepower twin-turbocharged V6. Peak horsepower comes at 5750 rpm, while peak torque of 400 pound-feet arrives at 2000 rpm.

A six-speed automatic with manual shifting sends the power to the rear wheels; good for a zero to 60 times of 5.3 seconds. The MKR runs on E85 ethanol fuel. Overall weight is 4075 lbs, and pricing is expected to be over $50,000, if a production version was made."

Anyone else think that new Jag concept looks more like a 4-door Aston than anything else? It's just so strange...especially when compared to the S-Type. To go from a retro-inspired shape to something that futuristic just seems to show a complete disregard for the customer base...though, considering the S-Type has been around in pretty much the same form since, what, 2000? Maybe there isn't much of a customer base anymore.

Oh, and that Lincoln concept...THAT is what a Lincoln should be. I'd buy one if I had the cash. Though I might be a bit biased as a former Lincoln owner...

Quote :
"Toyota will present its FT-HS Hybrid Sports Concept at the Detroit Auto Show.

It will be a super car powered by a 3.5-L V6 engine with more than 400 horsepower working together with a hybrid powertrain with a 0-60 time of around 4 seconds.

Although a mere concept, what you see here will certainly be what you get at the Detroit auto show. The FT-HS Hybrid Sports Concept that will unveil at the NAIAS will be the size of a Lexus SC430, except wider. There will also be room for 4 passengers. The engine will be visible through a hole in the hood, similar to that of the Audi R8, where the engine is visible through a piece of glass.

Inside, the aggressive design from the outside is carried onto the interior, which has sharp edges throughout the cabin. Yes, it may look cool in the pictures, but the question really is: will this ever be made into production? Kevin Hunter, VP of the Calty Design Research reports that the price tag will be unheard of for something like this and it will fall in the mid $30,000 range if they build it."

That's very cheap for that engine and the projected performance. Looks are highly futuristic (designed for 2010 model year, IF it is produced), but I kinda like it. Front bumper and intake is odd.

get ready bitches... infiniti G37 coupe is coming!

Spied: Infiniti G37 Coupe

Quote :
"In late 2005, Leftlane uncovered a trademark for the name "Infiniti G37." Then came the Infiniti Coupe Concept in January 2006. A year later, Nissan released an official sketch of new G coupe. This week, the automaker officially confirmed the G37 would arrive in April. If all that isn't enough, the spies at KGP Photographer have just delivered the first image of a G37 prototype in testing.

The car was shot at sunrise, after being out for a nighttime test drive. A front view was impossible, but our spies did manage to catch the rear-corner view as it escaped back to the test track.

As previously reported, the G37 will feature a 3.7 liter powerplant — slightly lager than the one featured in the G35 sedan. More importantly, it's worth noting that the engine is in fact a less powerful version of the high-output V6 that will propel the GT-R supercar. While the GT-R will feature twin turbos, the G37 will probably be naturally aspirated.

Nissan has done a good job of keeping the G37 under wraps, so we don't expect any further photos until the officially unveiling. The first images of the G37 will appear on Leftlane in just two weeks — March 28th. The car will be on display in early April at the New York Auto Show."

doesn't show anything, but still:

Next Generation Nissan 350 Z Spied

Quote :
"Based on a 350 Z this mat black mule was driving its first rounds on the roads when we managed to snap some pictures of it. Looks wider and slightly longer and we can clearly see that the headlamps don’t really fit.

Alongside the mule Nissan had a current 350 Z and a Porsche Cayman S to compare with. At this stages it is still too early to make any comments about how the finished car will look like but we can be sure they will add some horsepower and hopefully make it a little lighter to improve the handling. Rumours in Japan say the new name will be 400 Z but we will have to wait and see for that. "

aren't those back tyres wider than in the current car?
