Yeah that response was very soft, considering how forceful Bush's speech was. I was pissed that he didn't reflect in his speech the huge division in congress between dem. and rep.

I'm proud to have no affiliation with either party after tonight.

Our democracy reminds me of the old Ford slogan...

"You can get a Model T in any color you want as long as it's black"

The entire State of the Union was just a setup for 2006 campaign slogans. So in general I'd call it a "success."

Teh L3ft did a good job looking like asses during that snippet on Social Security though. The average voter is really gonna know the details of the debate well enough to understand why they jumped up. gg guys, you're lucky Tim Kaine saved your ass on that one

most voters aren't watching the state of the union, let alone the democratic response

they're just gonna see the democratic shenanigans on the daily show, nightly news, and morning talk show news shows

Ha... Cindy Sheehan got arrested for "unlawful conduct" for trying to wear an antiwar shirt and was held throughout the state of the union.

cnn:
Quote :
"Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested on a charge that could lead to a year in jail...

Sheehan and other relatives of troops killed in Iraq met with Bush during a visit to Fort Lewis, Washington, in April 2004, shortly after Sheehan's son was killed.

During that meeting with Bush, the president refused to look at pictures of Sheehan's son, didn't want to hear about him and "didn't even know Casey's name," she said.

Now, I'm against this war, and yes, I'm tired of hearing about her. But getting arrested for wearing a T-shirt? Now if she actually did something against the law, then fine. But at worst, just escort her out of the building.

Perhaps I should post the article for you.

Quote :
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested Tuesday in the House gallery after refusing to cover up a T-shirt bearing an anti-war slogan before President Bush's State of the Union address.

According to a blog post on Michael Moore's Web site attributed to Sheehan, the T-shirt said, "2,245 Dead. How many more?" -- a reference to the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq.

"She was asked to cover it up. She did not," said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman.

Schneider said Sheehan was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on charges of unlawful conduct, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail.

She was handcuffed and held in the Capitol building until she was driven to the Capitol Police headquarters for booking. According to her blog, she was released about four hours after being arrested.

Sheehan, who became a vocal war opponent after her son was killed in Iraq, was an invited guest of Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-California, who has called for a withdrawal of troops in Iraq and supports legislation for the creation of a Department of Peace.

Sheehan has pestered the Bush administration since August, when she and hundreds of fellow protesters began demanding an audience with the president and camping outside his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

She also recently penned a book, "Not One More Mother's Child."

The Vacaville, California, resident has said she'd like to meet with Bush again to discuss her opposition to the war.

Bush has refused to meet again with Sheehan and has taken issue with her calls for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

"She expressed her opinion; I disagree with it," Bush said in August. "I think immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake."

CNN.com's Eliott C. McLaughlin contributed to this report.

Did you know that in 1971, the Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional to arrest a man who wore a "F--- the Draft" T-shirt into the courthouse? (Cohen v. California)

3) one wild card

-c) need to invade neighboring country

Sheehan was booted because protests and demonstrations are prohibited in the Gallery. I guess it's an old law on the book attempting to keep the Gallery politically neutral.

Quote :
"Meanwhile, the wife of U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young said she was ejected during Bush's address for wearing a T-shirt that said, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom.""

I don't believe they arrested her though since she left when asked.

"NBC: Charges against Sheehan to be dropped
Antiwar mom removed from State of the Union for wearing protest shirt

WASHINGTON - Charges against antiwar protester Cindy Sheehan, who was arrested after an incident involving a T-shirt she wore to the State of the Union address, will be dropped, officials told NBC News Wednesday.

U.S. Capitol Police took Sheehan away in handcuffs and charged her with unlawful conduct, a misdemeanor, when she showed up to President Bush’s address Tuesday night wearing a shirt that read, “2245 Dead. How many more?” — a reference to the number of soldiers killed in Iraq.

But Capitol Police will ask the U.S. attorney's office to drop the charges, NBC News’ Mike Viqueira reported Wednesday.

“We screwed up,” a top Capitol Police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

He said Sheehan didn't violate any rules or laws.

No bump for Bush; no surprise from here:

http://poll.gallup.com/content/?ci=21415

Quote :
"Bush Approval Steady at 42%
Approval ratings show essentially no change since late November 2005

PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush's State of the Union address on Jan. 31 did little to move his overall job approval rating, according to a new Gallup Poll. Roughly 4 in 10 Americans continue to say they approve of Bush, with a majority saying they disapprove. The poll also asked Americans to rate Bush on six issues facing the nation today. Of these issues, Bush scores highest on terrorism and lowest on energy and healthcare. There have only been modest variations in Americans' ratings of these issues since late January, with the exception of a slight decrease in his healthcare policy rating.

The poll, conducted Feb. 6-9, 2006 finds that 42% of Americans approve and 55% disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job as president. Bush's approval ratings have been extremely stable in the low-40% range across eight separate Gallup Polls conducted since early December 2005. His previous approval rating was 43% in late January. Americans' approval ratings of Bush were slightly lower in November 2005, reaching the lowest point of his presidency, at 37% in the middle of that month. Bush's current approval rating is slightly lower than his 45.8% average for 2005.
