TIR is a big paxed class w/ any car that is on street tires.
STS/STX/STU (Street Touring whatever) are open classes that require street tires in addition to other things to make them each fair open classes 4/17/2006 11:44:05 AM |

maybe you guys can help me. I don't know what class to register in. I am D stock when unmodified.
I now have suspension, intake, exhause, weight reduction, and much wider street tires.
I know I am going to get my ass handed to me in whatever class I drive in, but what class would be my best bet?
And I just picked up my tires for this weekend. 245/45/17 BFG g-force KDW tt. Z speed rating. 4/17/2006 1:53:20 PM |

what car? define 'weight reduction' thats the kicker and often bumps you to Street Mod. 4/17/2006 2:00:33 PM |

It is the 91 maxima. weight reduction= 95% stripped I still weigh in at a beefy 3150lbs. 4/17/2006 2:38:53 PM |
Jonbo All American 7352 Posts user info edit post |
if it's 95% stripped, that's going to put you in a mod class. it's either DM or EM, but i think it's EM. 4/17/2006 2:41:32 PM |

Because it is a fat pig of a sedan, that is underpowered. It will be laughed at by all the other cars in its class.
That is working on being remedied though. 4/17/2006 2:57:07 PM |
Jonbo All American 7352 Posts user info edit post |
well as it stands right now, you'll be the only one in that class, so no worries 4/17/2006 3:03:19 PM |

yeh. you should run TIRE class w/ the Mod pax. itll be the most fun w/ the most competition, etc.

dannydigtl All American 18302 Posts user info edit post |
well w/ 5 events you should be fine in open class. leave NOV for the noobier noobs. TIR is sort of a post-noob/pre-open class anyway. and it normally has a lot of people in it 4/17/2006 3:27:39 PM |

no.. i was asking why it was in mod class? 4/17/2006 3:34:14 PM |
dannydigtl All American 18302 Posts user info edit post |
rules and classing: http://www.scca.org/_filelibrary/File/2006_solo_rules.pdf
If its fully stripped i think Prepared would be ok. Stree Mod allows rear seat removal and some basic weight reduction. but if your interior is gutted, its at least Prepared 4/17/2006 4:00:20 PM |
beethead All American 6513 Posts user info edit post |
i know the classing rules...
i ran in prepared...
the only reason he would be in mod is if he swapped an engine in there that did not originally come in there or fabbed up a completely custom suspension (which i doubt)...
edit: custom suspension meant like full tube-frame deal...

I have both front seats, but no AC components, no sound deadening, no carpet, no interior panels, no rear seats. well, the front seat may come out too.
The suspension is basic aftermarket.
So: TIR EM DSP 4/17/2006 4:09:38 PM |
dannydigtl All American 18302 Posts user info edit post |
no,
actually your car is Hstock. (D stock is '04+ and Gstock is '92+). so i 'guess' its 'H' Prepared? Prepared gets a bit complicated and i'm lazy so maybe Kevin can chime in.
you car is Prepared (not Street Prepared). done and done.
so you can run open class 'H' Prepared.
or you can run PAX'ed class TIR w/ an 'H' Prepared PAX
basically gutting a car is the worst thing you can do as far as classing You'd be a 'normal' STS car otherwise which is a fun class. But yeh, id just run Tire and take whatever PAX hit and see what happens

that sounds like prepared class to me (not street prepared)
h-stock does not necessarily goes to "h prepared"
it is all based on weight per displacement...
read the rulebook (appendix a under prepared class)

how is insurance dealt with at events like this - say 2 cars collide for whatever reason - i imagine they have a hard time filing a claim? 4/17/2006 5:34:11 PM |

^2 cars won't collide 4/17/2006 6:15:04 PM |
Skack All American 31140 Posts user info edit post |
There is little to no chance of a collision. There is only one car on any section of the course at a time (i.e. no passing or any of that.) Every once in a while someone finds a way to run off the course, but even then they usually just stop in the grass with no damage. I'd imagine that if it happens you are basically stuck with the bill though. 4/17/2006 6:17:09 PM |

So I'm a noob but I want to get into autoX next year (I'm putting a 5spd into my car over the summer). I read through the rules and am confused to hell on classes. I have a 240sx with adjustable shocks and new springs...everything else is stock and I will be swapping in a fully stock transmission over the summer. What class would I fall into? 4/17/2006 9:01:21 PM |

^ street tires?
i know that the club (thscc, typically) has to have some crazy insurance in order to be allowed to use a site.. not sure if that covers driver liability or just site insurance or injury or what.. best bet would be to go to http://thsccforums.com/ and ask...

okay so i just registerd for the upcoming Sanford event - first time doing it so I don't expect amazing results - and pretty much expect to lose - my car is pretty much the bulkiest one on the list from what I see too http://thscc.com/cgi-bin/showentries_autox.cgi?eventdate=20060611
throw out any and all recommendations for a first timer please -
i talked to dan this morning and he said I'd be in the STX Novice class so that's what I put when i registered - i'll be running on stock tires/wheels before throwing money into something like this to see if this is something i enjoy
2005 maxima SL (the SE is the sport tuned suspension one whereas the L is tuned for comfort) CAI / y-pipe / rear sway bar / endlinks / front strut bar
from other people's dynos with the similar engine mods - i'd expect it's at about 235-240hp and 215-220tq - not that it matters about power in autox that much but i don't have turn skill #s to give

How many races are you suppose to go before you are no longer a novice? This will be my 4th.

hmm, actually the website still says twice, but it doesn't really matter. it used to be once; if you are good enough to beat the novices, you should probably just go ahead and move to an open class.
