The STD pandemic...

Will legalizing prostitution cut down on this pandemic? Will testing really become a more regular practice? Will the number of people prostituting go up? Will the number of people visiting prostitutes go up?

I dunno, dudes.

Gamecat: Does legalizing prostitution shut down the local McDonald's? Applebee's? Does it put a hiring freeze on those government jobs that require no skill to do?

JonHGuth: the johns have had no problem with ignroing health concerns so far, what makes you think they will suddenly start caring?

Protostar One of the terms of contract would be the understanding that the prostitute in question does not have any diseases, and if she does it would violate the terms of contract.

GrumpyGOP: Unless you're personally obseving a large portion of paid sex acts, the boss/regulator/tax man isn't going to know exactly how much money was exchanged or whether John wore a rubber.
"

*gasp* I agree with grumpy - you can't regulate something you can't watch. A sanitation grade can be observed. It's pretty hard to hide bad habits. It's not difficult at all to say Hey, we need to wear a rubber this time because I'm being watched. Although ... some people might like having the job of watching.

About the government ... I'm sure there are women who would rather be prostitutes than work at McD's. Plus, there are probably men who would rather be brothel owners or prostitutes themselves. It could actually adversely affect the hiring market ... the people at fast food places tend to be incompetent enough without something more entertaining dragging them away. Granted, not true across the board, but generally speaking.

OSHA? ARE YOU FUCKING MAD? OSHA is backlogged TWO YEARS on audits. Do you want to wait two years for an infected ho to get audited?

I go back to my original statement: I care enough to say let's not waste any money bothering to legalize and regulate, and let's not waste any money trying to enforce either unless the bitch gets caught for something else like child endangerment or drugs.

Bttt. Seems attitudes have changed. But the laws seem to be relatively the same. How should this be handled?

I’m just glad that people feel comfortable reposting quotes of mine without context

The key policy goal is to make sure it’s not being used as a cover for human trafficking

Allow me to quote the great George Carlin: Selling is legal; fucking is legal: why isn't selling fucking legal?

^ If that's your main concern, then legalization is the solution. Most of the ills cited as arguments against prostitution are caused and exacerbated by its prohibition.

to be clear, we do actually agree on this principle. i'm trying to lean into opportunities to passive-aggressively highlight that we do in fact share some beliefs. i see it is a useful reference point for when we disagree

^^^
I agree but the legalization can’t be half assed. Like what Nevada is doing is still keeping women trapped from what I’ve read. There almost needs to be like a “health inspector” maybe that visits participants and makes sure they’re not being coerced.
