Quote : | "Isaac Hayes did not quit "South Park." My sources say that someone quit it for him.
I can tell you that Hayes is in no position to have quit anything. Contrary to news reports, the great writer, singer and musician suffered a stroke on Jan. 17. At the time it was said that he was hospitalized and suffering from exhaustion.
It’s also absolutely ridiculous to think that Hayes, who loved playing Chef on "South Park," would suddenly turn against the show because they were poking fun at Scientology.
Last November, when the “Trapped in a Closet” episode of the comedy aired, I saw Hayes and spent time with him in Memphis for the annual Blues Ball.
If he hated the show so much, I doubt he would have performed his trademark hit song from the show, “Chocolate Salty Balls.” He tossed the song into the middle of one of his less salacious hits and got the whole audience in the Memphis Pyramid to sing along.
I can tell you, Hayes was very pleased with himself, was in a great mood and, as always, loved his fans' coming up to him and asking him about Chef." |

Chef Returns for 'South Park' Premiere Trey Parker and Matt Stone have filmed a last-minute episode of South Park in response to Scientologist Isaac Hayes' request to be released from his contract because the show mocked his religion. The creators are launching the tenth season of the series on US network Comedy Central on Wednesday, with an episode featuring Hayes' character Chef. Because South Park episodes only take six days to create, Stone and Parker were able to react to the current controversy soon after it happened. According to a Comedy Central press release, the show will feature, "The triumphant homecoming of school chef Jerome McElroy. While Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman are thrilled to have their old friend back, they notice that something about Chef seems different. When Chef's strange behavior starts getting him in trouble, the boys pull out all stops to save him." 3/21/2006 1:40:46 AM |

That's gonna be pretty shitty if it turns out that Hayes actually didn't have anything to do with that statement. 3/21/2006 1:44:14 AM |

Yeah, that's really fucked up if somebody made the statement without his permission.
It's a shame, really, if it's true. He could have been one audit away from clearing the body thetan that gave him that stroke. 3/21/2006 1:52:30 AM |

If true, and Chef actually remained, that'd be the ultimate pwnt against Scientology. 3/21/2006 3:08:51 AM |

so in the commercial, when he says "hello children," it appears to be hayes' voice
do you think they're going to do use recordings of his voice from earlier episodes, edited together to say craziness, or what? 3/22/2006 12:15:32 PM |

Quote : | "The rumor has been out for a few days now that Isaac Hayes never had any intention of quitting his role as Chef on 'South Park'. He loved the show and needed the income, and the 'South Park' episode that made fun of Scientology - of which Hayes has been a member for 14 years - didn't change that. But in late January, Hayes suffered a stroke, and members of Scientology took advantage if his infirmed condition to issue a statement claiming to be Hayes leaving the show. Today the story gains momentum as the New York Post picks it up and now names names:
"(Hayes is) at home recuperating and did not issue the press release which said he was quitting because the show made fun of his faith. That release was put out by fellow Scientologist Christina "Kumi" Kimball, a fashion executive for designer Craig Taylor ? 'Hayes loves 'South Park' and needs it for income. He has a new wife and a baby on the way.' "
I guess this could be more despicable, but only if Scientology attached the statement to a ten year old with cancer in a wheelchair, and then delivered the statement by pushing him down some stairs. And also, there's a puppy in the wheelchair too. And the puppy also has cancer." |

Holy Christ. If (1) that NY Post story is true, and (2) I were Isaac Hayes, I'd sue the ever-loving shit out of that woman. I don't know that much about Scientology, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't require you give power of attorney to fellow Scientologists. I hope to fuck he (comes back/views this as him never leaving) the show and everything goes on like normal.
