*Before you reply, yes I know some of these are widely known, but the average moviegoer identifies not with the director but with the actors on screen. Most people only know of, say, Spielberg and Scorcese but no one else. And also a lot of these directors' lesser known films (ex. Blood Simple) are good despite the lack of popular appeal.

wes anderson puts out widely released movies that are advertised based on his name and the coen brothers are oscar winners and made a cult classic. once you aer involved in a cult classic you cant be "lesser known" anymore.

yes i was pointing out that those directors' movies known b/c of the directors, not b/c of the actors

not only have people heard of them, as you say, but they know their movies

the pt of 'lesser known films' by them is valid for the coen brothers, but i'm pretty sure most people can relate coen brothers/fargo at the very least. as for wes anderson, i think his only somewhat unknown movie is bottle rockets. the rest of his movies are widely advertised as by wes anderson.
