lokken, way to do dodge the issue.

do you think rick barnes gets more support in texas at a football school than he would at ncsu where people are nuts a/b basketball?

^^i think it depends on the situation. if he does anything short of taking us to the final four, then yes, i think he will get more support in texas.

it has become clear that nc state only supports winners

and by winners i mean "people that have a shot to beat unc and duke"

but as that article everyone is bitching about says

every recruit that could beat unc or duke GOES TO unc or duke

Thats the thing

Valvano didnt have a great record against UNC

But what did he win...3 ACC championships and an NCAA title?

Thats why he's a legend.

If Herb had won 1 of the 3 acc finals that he was in, he would NEVER have been pushed out....unless we kept this shit up for a few more years.

i agree, all the stats in the world can be trumped by pointing at a banner and saying "yea, but we won that."

i think if herb would have given us just one of those, this thread would be non-existent

no

it would be here

and he would be gone

instead of WE NEVER WON SHIT AND GOT TO THE SWEET 16 ONCE IN TEN FUCKING YEARS

it would be

WE WON ONE FUCKING ACC CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN THE ACC HAD A SHITTASTIC YEAR AND ONE SWEET 16 IN TEN FUCKING YEARS.

^^the main reason that i would have liked to see barnes here is for recruiting power.

i'm not greedy, i would just like something tangible, instead of these damn perpetual stat wars.

in all honesty

I do think if barnes were to come here we would be more successful. I think he could unite the fan base. If that happened then the program could do nothing but improve.

When the fan base is split and the program is engulfed in negativity it really adversely effects the players and the coaches.

Of course the minute barns got blown out by roy or k it would be a moo point

Maybe he'll pull a John Kerry and flip-flop on the issue, then join us here at State.

Just finding that small thread that gives you Barnes suckers a few more bits of hope

Okay so we didnt get Barnes.

Big deal.

I liked him cause I knew he could unite the fan base and he's not a pussy like Herb.

But it's not like he's really an elite coach or anything. There's plenty of alternatives.

I dont understand why everyone is so concerned with getting a "Name" coach.

Plenty of big "names" have gone places and done jack shit.

I want a good coach that won't be a pussy or put us on probation. I dont care what his name is.

Barnes courtship continues

Quote :
"It's too bad Lee Corso isn't around to scream "Not so fast, my friend" on the Rick Barnes front.

While there is no strong reason to predict Barnes will leave Texas to coach basketball at N.C. State, he has not completely closed the door on the Wolfpack advances.

That's how the situation stood as of Friday afternoon - hours after it was widely reported that Barnes had told State to buzz off.

The odds of Barnes saying "yes" to State are no better than one in five, but he'll remain at the top of the target list until he says there is no chance.

The lines of communication between the two parties will remain open even as State expands its search. John Calipari of Memphis and John Brady of Louisiana State likely will be contacted soon. And the Wolfpack still has interest in Jay Wright, but the Villanova coach is seen as a long shot at best.

Back at Texas, Barnes has been told by school officials that his total financial package for 2006-07 will be increased from approximately $1.3 million annually to $1.8 million, plus incentives. However, nothing has been signed and will not be for several days.

The issue with Barnes isn't the money. Both schools are willing to pay roughly the same. The intangibles that favor Texas: Barnes has a national top-10 program, he genuinely likes Austin and is under no heavy pressure to win anything more than 20 to 25 games each season.

In State's favor is a historic passion for the sport and the program Barnes has always wanted to coach. Among the
X-factors is high school superstar Kevin Durant, who signed with Texas for the specific purpose of playing for Barnes."

He either signs a contract with NC State, or he signs an extension at Texas. It's that simple. Just let the man be. If he wants to be here, he'll be here..... Just let it rest for a while.

last night i was approached by Phog Allen, an Indian shaman, and Jim Morrison in a dream. they told me that I was the one who will lead the NC State basketball team, but first I must retrieve James Nasmith's sacred lost playbook from a buried dungeon underneath the Springfield YMCA. then I will possess the knowledge once bestowed upon John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, Allen, and Clarence "Big House" Gaines.

Didn't you think it was a trifle unnecessary to see the crack in the Indian's bottom?
