my S2000 was fine as a DD, for me. can't put a car seat in it, though.

and yeah, it had a voracious appetite for tires.

going to check it out on saturday...got a 1-way car rental from Avis for $22! i was gonna rent an airplane and fly over there, but I'd need someone to fly with me and bring the airplane back, and I couldn't find anyone. Oh well...driving it will take a lot longer, but it'll be A LOT cheaper.

i'm a little concerned that it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000 below blue book value--if it sounds too good to be true...it probably is.

on the other hand, I just drove a car for 2 years, nearly doubled the mileage, broke the stereo, and still sold it for a $1000 profit--so never say never.

[Edited on September 21, 2006 at 3:15 AM. Reason : oh, and I checked the CARFAX report for what it's worth...looks good.]

alright...haven't really had a chance to hustle it down any real twisties, but based on the few curves i've had a chance to attack, here is my impression:

not quite as sporty or lively in the handling dept as i expected, but very low drama...doesn't have the frantic nature of my S2000. certainly wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as fast at 9/10ths, but you could cover ground pretty quickly if you wanted to, without it really feeling like you're working.

torque is a crutch--pretty much unnecessary for hauling ass (except for off the line), but it does make things easy. after being used to high revving sports cars and sportbikes, it's almost too easy to keep that straight-six pulling.

anyone ever heard an E46 with a freer flowing intake? how noisy was it?

i've thought about getting a less restrictive, aftermarket intake, and getting the ECU flashed, but I don't want it to be too loud (on a sports car, I don't mind it being loud, but I don't want make this one sound too raucous). I have no intention of changing the exhaust.

there's no reason whatsoever for me to do this...I don't need more power, and it's not going to be fast unless I dump $10k into it...I just can't seem to leave well enough alone.

...and what is a good BMW forum?

http://www.bimmerforums.com has a bunch of no-nothing, non-technically minded dumbasses who apparently have graduated from Civics with erector-set wings and kazoo mufflers to BMWs.

I haven't followed all your car changings, how did you manage this? I know it's possible with some cars, but an s2000?!

i just bought it for a ridiculously low price

oh, and the front tires were nearly bald when i sold it, too

basically, it's hard to get an established value for heavily modified cars, so it's just kinda whatever buyer and seller can agree on (which is technically the case in anything, but there's no blue book and little to compare it to for a car like that)
