TSN picked Laviolette for coach of the year. Of course, it's a BRILLIANTLY written article, as you will see they have considered Sidney Crosby for the Norris, and they gave the Hart to "Jose Thornton". 4/19/2006 9:15:08 PM |

I think the 'Canes will get through the first round series with Montreal, but its not going to be a sweep. I am very very worried about the second round more so because if the refs go back at all to the old style of officiating, we are fucked.
Oh well, I will hope for the best and will be there for all of the games. EXCEPT game one. (Fucking hockey tournament...) 4/19/2006 10:23:45 PM |

That message has been made clear to Colin Campbell, senior executive vice-president of hockey operations, and Stephen Walkom, director of officiating, he said on a conference call Wednesday.
"My instructions to Colie and to Stephen are if an official puts his whistle away, they should put the official away for the rest of the playoffs," Bettman said.
"How long you work in the playoffs is discretionary. It depends how well you are working. And if a guy decides he's putting the whistle away, then he's done."
Added Walkom: "If they see a foul in the game, I full expect they'll react to it." " |

Bettman translated to commonspeak: Look, we need to have an average of five goals per game per team for the playoffs to be success. We finally succeeded by shoving this CBA up the players' union's ass. But our TV deal is s***! It's so bad that right now they're making more money in Canada than places like Washington or St. Louis. So in order for the NHL to be relevant and to get more TV coverage and sponsorship to pad our pockets more, we need the referees to call fouls if defensemen touch another player, take over possession of the puck, look at wingers cross-eyed, stop the progress of the puck advancing toward the net, etc. How else are people going to watch, it's not going to come from good leadership?

^Check TitanTV, it lists Canadiens at Hurricanes at 7PM Saturday night. If you were looking on your digital cable guide, chances are you loaded it before the schedule was updated. If you were looking on FSNs website, chances are the schedule is for generic FSN South...for example, FSN South also carries Memphis Grizzlies games but they arent available in our market. 4/21/2006 8:47:12 AM |

If you do not have access to FSN South for tomorrow night's game, you can watch it here for free: http://www.comcast.net/sports/nhl/hockeylive/ (you do not have to be a Comcast subscriber to watch) 4/21/2006 10:45:38 PM |

Not sure why they are doing it free now. They did it all season long for anyone who had Comcast cable or Internet, but apparently for the playoffs it's free for anyone. 4/22/2006 1:13:04 AM |
