I've heard contrary.

Either way...I wouldn't be too disappointed with a Lavin hire. I'd definitely want him over Whittenberg and Belein right now. And if he can collect a good group of assistants, then that will be even better.

And we need to fucking hire someone now and get on the recruiting trails.

baron hates every team he's ever been on.

And he's sucked the last couple of years and still doesnt realize it.

well, since nothing is being leaked out about it, especially considering how close Lavin is with ESPN and brodcasting, it just does not feel like a hire right now.

^^^^Tomorrow or Tuesday. I've heard that he's in Raleigh today. But with the shit that went on with this coaching search...I'd take that info with a grain of salt.

Hey rally, how would you feel with a Belein Hire??

While I do agree that he consistently grumbles no matter the team....

18 points, 5 boards, 9 assists, 2 steals and 2 threes a game isnt really too shabby.

WHEN HEALTHY, he is a beast and one of the best point guards in the league.

This dude has had plenty of time to decide.

Fowler is waiting at the altar as we speak.....

"If one more media person claims that Baron Davis is a "tough omission" from the 2006 All-Star team, I'm going to throw up all over my Zarko Cabarkapa. Watch G-State some time -- they have some nice pieces (Murphy, Biedrins, Richardson, Fisher, Pietrus, Diogu), but there's Baron dribbling the ball for 20 seconds, hoisting bad 3s and single-handedly killing them in close games. It's like somebody shrunk Antoine Walker and gave him his own team. If you're wondering why the Warriors went 8-19 before winning their last two games, look no further. I'd rather have Speedy Claxton for one-fourth the price."

How does tracking one's flight correlate to when an AD is going to make a press conference? Look noone knows when a conference is going to be made or who is going to be hired. The decision could be made hour prior to the conference for who will be hired. For all we know Fowler is juggling thre or four candidates at a time. During the Calipari and Barnes situation, it was clear that they were the single person persued at the time.

it would make good sense though that he is calling up these guys and gettin his AC staff together before he makes an announcement to say he is completely ready to take this job over full steam ahead. Hopefully a press conference tomorrow.

and for the record, I Love Lavins potential and said him early on as my top candidate.

^Agreed. The ‘fact’ that we offered him the job and he hasn’t said “no” makes it seem like something is in the works.

I think Lavin would give State a lot of attention -> great recruits.

i have the slam magazine from when he made the cover, i remember how cool i thought it was when somebody wearing 'Charlotte' on their chest was on the cover for the first time since probably LJ...

he's such a sellout

before the other teams make fun of him for it, we need to take all of those red wigs and slick back the hair with gel...give him a little hell/support while we're at it. All in good fun.

Talk about fucking bizzare
Quote :
"The game is up
By Billy Witz
Staff Writer

It started with whispers. Then there was snickering. Soon the word spread around the summer recruiting circuit, where gossip and you-gotta-hear-this stories fly through the air like basketballs.

At Highline Community College in suburban Seattle last July, about 30 college coaches and scouts were seated along the baseline of two courts, keeping their eyes on some of the best players in the Northwest.

Steve Lavin was there to keep an eye on a top-flight point guard. While other coaches were taking notes or looking at rosters to match a name with a face, Lavin was off in the corner of the circular gym pumping away furiously on an exercise bike.

Fans, recognizing him in the UCLA cap and shirt, stopped to chat, but nothing could slow him down, not even the giggling of his peers. Soon, sweat was pouring down his face and soaking through his shirt.

"I'm watching the games," said one scout, "and I hear other guys saying, 'Is he going to the airport like that? Is he going to take a shower?' I turned around to see what everybody was talking about, and I couldn't believe it.

"It was so unprofessional. I'm sure in a court of law he would say he was watching the games and that may true, but can you imagine Roy Williams, Lute Olson or Mike Montgomery getting on an exercise bike?"

To many in the coaching industry, it is the quintessential Lavin story.

It, as well as anything, explains why UCLA's 38-year-old head coach -- whose teams had won 20 games in each of his six seasons prior to this one and had reached the Sweet Sixteen in five of those years -- will be fired as soon as today.
"

"When a team has the same amount of talent as you, it comes down to X's and O's, and we never had an X-and-O game. You can get away with it against Oregon State, Washington State and SC, or in a one-game situation, but teams like Arizona and Stanford that are just as talented, you have to beat them with execution down the stretch."

Quote :
"
A prep All-American, Bozeman was so highly thought of by Lavin as a point guard -- a position he rarely played in high school -- that the only other player Lavin signed at that position was Ryan Walcott, who had no other offers and the coaches hadn't evaluated in person.

As Bozeman has struggled the past two years, there have been few options.

Next year's roster will be littered with players who either had scholarship offers from lower-level schools or not at all: Walcott, Josiah Johnson, Jon Crispin, Matt McKinney, Brian Morrison and Ryan Hollins.

"Steve is a phenomenal recruiter but a terrible evaluator," one scout said. "If he had somebody who could point him at a guy and say, 'Go get him,' he'd be fine. But he doesn't have anybody that can do that. That's why they end up with a roster full of guys who are either McDonald's All-Americans or can't play."

This, those in the recruiting business say, is why UCLA is in the fix it is.

Haha. Lavin's a dumbass. This should be fun.

I'm actually excited about him coming in just because it would be entertaining for a couple years. Whether Herb was winning or losing, he was still boring. If Lavin gets in here, we'll have an interesting few years...win or lose.

If he has a personal relationship with ESPN, then that makes them more likely to respect his want for privacy during this time and work with him to make sure nothing leaks and he can pursue this position without it falling apart due to media pressures. ESPN stands to make alottof $$ off of this if he goes back to coaching.

A successful ex-broadcaster now a successful college basketball coach would be very positive for the network. I bet they are working behind the scenes to film the whole process and make a mini-series outtof it. TALK ABOUT GOOD PRESS!

yeha. sure am.

My big thing with the Lavin ordeal is wondering how ESPN will treat it.
Realistically it could be very positive for us as far as getting back into the national spotlight.
It could be negative eventually but this is all heresay anyways, right?

Herb never had that kindof star power, though i will root for mouseman @ ASU.

God damn those mother fuckers are delusional. I can't count the number of times I've seen that kind of shit on PP over the past few weeks.

Every single last one of them are bat shit crazy. The mods included, James, etc...

I bought a 1mo subscription right when Herb left--biggest fucking waste of money.
nobody should ever buy a subscription, all they do (mostly) is link to other articles and make up some wild ass theories.

Every week I have heard them say "we'll know something in the next two days".."expect a presser.. ".... "Hey good news "

Then someone will be like "Hey James gave a smiley WOOT!"

FUCKING IDIOTS.
