That's an immature, bullshit excuse. First of all, have some fucking respect for your campus and your fellow students. Second, saying it was going to happen anyway is a complete cop-out and is NOT a plausible reason to do something (see pcmsurf's post).
The University gave us a chance to show that we could be responsible, that we do in fact take pride in our campus and want to see it become beautiful. You just blew it for the rest of us. gg5/9/2006 11:05:20 AM |

he's referring to this:
the fountain (the circular structure) was also eventually removed

Didn't they put the lights in the tunnel for safety reasons - ie the tunnels wouldn't be safe at night if there were no lights. When you paint over the lights you are limiting the amount of light that can come out of them - thereby making the tunnels unsafe.
When they declared the tunnel "free expression" I don't think they intended for people to express themselves by nullifying the safety precautions they put in place.
With all the space the university gives for people to paint what they want it amazes me that there is someone that just has to paint on one little section where they shouldn't. 5/10/2006 3:15:21 PM |

The alternative would have been to procure more land and spread the buildings out further. Then we'd have even more fatties complaining about how far they have to walk. It's impossible to please everyone. 5/10/2006 4:18:55 PM |

The only differences between that photo and the current campus is Talley is now located where there used to be a parking lot, Carmichael expanded to overtake one field, and the tri-towers were built where there used to be what looks like a big walkway. (and they got rid of all those pathways in Tucker beach and replaced them with a single pathway, more grass, and a volleyball court.) (and they removed the fountain behind Burlington and added a fountain by Talley.) (and turned the boring courtyard behind Burlington into a very nice arboretum.) It's just about nicer looking now. At least in the portion that is shown in this photo.5/10/2006 4:32:15 PM |

good gravy i went to centennial today to take pictures of eng I & II...man those things are bohemoth...it was like "THE CITY OF THE FUTURE!!!1"
i stood in the courtyard to get some panoramas and i realized that in 10-20 years all the forest to my right and behind would most likley be gone and all of a sudden i knew what it was like in the 1930s takin all them pics i have in my "old school nc state" photo gallery
i still want them to rebuild riddick stadium somewhere, though 5/10/2006 5:23:47 PM |

Except they didn't have "years and years of paint," they kept having to replace broken and painted-over lights with new ones.

last I knew, there are still limits to "free expression," and I've seen a lot of things there that have caused a lot of strife and have been a huge disgrace to our campus, even when they're painted within the allowed boundaries. But in the end, this isn't about "free expression," it's about growing up and being a responsible adult; have some respect for your campus (and in this case it's history). When you're older, telling your beer-belly friends what you painted where won't make a difference anywhere in the long run, but show people how much of a jackass you were in college.5/11/2006 1:21:11 AM |

except i've known it was there for years, and i've told people about it whenever the opportunity arose to point it out to them. sometimes, people really do pay attention to their surroundings, and take interest enough to do a little research. 5/14/2006 1:09:31 AM |

It amazes me that having like 30 yards of walls paint whatever the fuck you want on is not enough. Was it really THAT necessary to your "expression" that you paint on the lights?
The walls aren't an operating piece of equipment, that are replaced yearly if not sooner, and cost money to be serviced. All that is paid for by US.
So why don't you show some goddamn common sense and maturity and paint the areas that are obviously for painting. Seriously it's really retarded that you did it, then that you rationalized to yourself the motivation for doing it, and that you believe this rationalization enough to BOAST about it.5/14/2006 3:43:11 AM |

we also saw some guys painting
they were painting on the big concrete areas doin' good
