the thing is the constitution and the bill of rights doesn't end at the school doors, but public schools also can ban anything that will take away from teaching a class properly. That's why schools can tell students they can't wear rebel flags, hell a school can tell students they can't wear a daisy on their t-shirt if it causes a disruption.
Having sex I would say is deffinitely a disruption. I mean yeah I think the parents when a little overboard with calling the police and the school when they caught their kids having sex. But my high school had the same type of internship thing and the school is still legally responsible for the students when they go on these internships. If students don't show up to these internships for any reason other than what would be otherwise considered an "excused" absence it's still 'skipping' class and schools punish students who skip.
And because they are doing this school sponsered activity when they left campus they are still under school rule (just like if a class goes on a field trip, still under school rule) and having sex on school property is kinda off limits really any p.d.a is off limits at most public schools...why? because it takes away from teaching a class effectivly.
I think a suspension for 10 days is a little too much, but I do think that there should have been a punishment for doing this.5/21/2006 3:00:03 PM |
