I don't know about all this arguing, but the fact that dude was trying to hit him shows that guy really has no class and isn't a competitor. If you are that SCARED that Bonds is going to take you deep(despite how sporadic his hitting has been), just intentionally walk him and be civilized about it. The guy won't be remembered 20 years down the line for his pitching, he should have let him hit it just so he'd be remembered for something.

I hope this pisses off Bonds and in his next game(believe he is resting the next one) he hits one out and dedicates it to the pitcher of tonight's game, haha.

If he was trying to hit him he wouldn't have been throwing breaking balls. Barry's homers this year have all been over the plate and away, so you pitch him inside. He has enough body armor on that unless it hits him in the neck he will be fine. He crowds the plate but because he is Barry Bonds you can't pitch him inside.

After the strike, steroids saved the game(see Sosa, Sammy and McGwire, Mark and their homerun chase). The phrase "chicks dig the long ball" hit the American vernacular. But the thing is, people could pretend that, in spite of McGwire's forearms being the size of New Mexico, steroids weren't involved.

Then BALCO. Then Jose's book. Then Giambi. Then Bonds admitting that he was juiced.

Now this homerun chase is turning some of the people that came back to baseball to watch the first one away again. The phrase "chicks dig the ground-out to second" is going to hit the American vernacular. And baseball, a sport that is more about numbers than athletes, won't ever pretend to but a the * next to Bonds because more people care about him hitting Ruth's mark as a 'roided up asshole than they would if he was all class all the way.

For the record, race did inform my pulling for Bonds to beat McGwire. Some redneck once asked me if I wanted Sosa or McGwire to win the chase that one summer. When I said that I was a half-assed Cubs fan(which was a lie, I'm really a half-assed Orioles fan and like a 1/6th-assed Cubs supporter) and therefore pulling for Sosa, the dude said: "Really? Don't you want a white guy to have anything in sports?"

I thought of that bitch the moment Bonds beat McGwire's record.

And most chicks I know don't necessarily "dig the long ball"...its more along the lines of they enjoy going to a baseball game and pulling for the Knights and sipping a couple brews and eating some ballpark food...or the chicks dig better sports like football
