allright, here's my stance on everything else people are saying:
Mario: Every single game kicks ass minus Sunshine, i fucking hate sunshine. I still have fond memories of the first 5 games of the series.
Zelda: Every single game rocks. Ocarina of Time is one of my top ten favorite games.
Sonic: I only care about the 2D ones, the 3D ones suck. The combination of Sonic 3 and Knuckles is one of the best games you can possibly play, and the music rules.
MGS: Very awesome. Although I can't beat the first one and have no idea what to do, the Solid series kicks ass, even though i have yet to play 3.
Fallout: Never played.
GTA: I never played the old ones, and GTA3 did not age well but I loved it upon the time of release. Vice City and SA are fucking awesome though, but I pick VC over SA because of the tunes.
Final Fantasy: Once cool, now it is stale and pretty much sucks in every aspect that used to make it cool. They gave the characters voices, bad ones at that (turn off the audio for the supremely annoying X-2). I pretty much gave up after FF8 and FF9, although I never played 10. 7 rocks but is overrated. 4 is fun but redundant IMO, 5 is pretty sweet but also gets boring at parts. 6 is easily the best of the series, especially for the non-linear aspect of the 2nd half of the game. Check it out.
Mega Man: All the games are fun and really kick ass, except anything 3D. The X series is superior IMO. Indeed, the first few games of all the series are the best (MM1-5, MMX1-3) but in reality all the games in the respective series are awesome. Mega Man Zero is okay, but sucks compared to the classic feel and awesome gameplay of X and the original series.
for the hell of it:
Halo: The second one was not nearly as good as the first one in a single player aspect. The music wasn't as good and the snipers were annoying as hell (legendary mode). The first one was amazing. I hope the 3rd one is as good as the first, the trailer looks promising. It's a good series, but not as good as...
Half Life: The first game was simply incredible, I beat it in two days in two gaming sessions. The second one is even more amazing, hands down the best single player FPS game I've ever played.
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark: I never played Zero, but these two games are a very strong reason to buy an N64. There are way too many ways to play these games and will at least give you a good time for a month's worth of time.
Chrono: Trigger rules, fuck Cross.
Warioland: AMAZING! Everybody should play this series.
last, but not least:
Earthbound: By far the greatest RPG series ever. Everything about it is fucking insane, which is half the fun. The sequel just got released and unfortunatley is the final game in the series. All three are awesome, even though I've barely scratched M3.
