Oh, about 130 pounds!

BA DUM-CHH!

Oh man, you missed hilarious Sleater-Kinney antics last night involving Corin telling side-splitting jokes and Janet not realizing she was supposed to make the rim shot sound effect. CLASSIC S-K.

SONOFACUTEBISEXUALBITCH!

Lemme go post my SwC thoughts now.

...aaaaaand apparently there is no SwC thread. To sum up: the show is worth at least five threads, the movie is almost worth one. Meh.

I must clarify.

"Son of a (cute bisexual) bitch!"

NOT

"Son of a (cute bisexual bitch)!"

AND

NOT

"Son of a (cute bisexual French aristocrat bitch)!"

I was going to make a joke about ABBA instead of ABBS, but I no longer want to.

However, I think the three of us should have a shitty comedy show on CTV.

I was really trying to think of an A-word to put on there.

Acute Bisexual Bitch A_______ is no laughing matter. It has become many a woman's Waterloo.

So i look in here to find out about marie anoinette and i find out new things about sleater-kinney, which is good i suppose.

really, a series of french revolution films would be supreme, complete w/ that napoleon biopic kubrick was writing.

^and theres your ABBA...

I'm not really sure what I thought of this movie. It looked amazing, and I liked the actors, but it felt tedious at times, and it definitely felt long. Hmm.

It had a chance to be good - but it could have been 30-40 minutes shorter and still resonated just as much. Instead of making Marie Antoinette an interesting character, she became two-dimensional on screen.

Sofia Coppola =/= Francis Ford Coppola

I liked it. It was eye candy, and felt like a really long music video.

The ending was perfect.

^^ Yeah, the music was one of the best parts. I think it was stylistically very interesting, but it sometimes (especially in the last half) gave me the impression of her as a very flat character. I liked her better at the beginning when she was under all that stress- the end with the deus-ex-machina-esque intrusion of the French Revolution felt a little too much like an afterthought.

^^ Well, I'd give it around a 80/100.

People keep noting how boring it was, but I definitely think that was part of the point.

omg we agree on something

Eh, I might change that to 70 or 75 if I think about how I've ranked her other films.

Lost in Translation is her best so far. The Virgin Suicides just doesn't live up to the book.

This movie made me feel really good for some reason...while Lost in Translation depressed me.

Marie Antoinette managed to have a depressing effect for me, and probably because there's an overwhelming sense of ennui throughout it.

Depressing?

I thought ennui meant boredom?

It does, but generally in a negative "I'm bored with all my surroundings permanently" sense. Ennui is the long-term boredom that can't be easily alleviated. That, or I've read too much Baudelaire.

Is it really the theater's fault when you chose to see the movie, anyway?

I don't think so.

Sometimes theaters give in because they can't handle the absurdity of the situation.

In case anybody hasn't seen it yet, this will be playing at Galaxy Cinema starting tomorrow (possibly only until Tuesday). Showtimes are 1:25, 4:05, and 7:00.

I think I'll watch it again.
