i have to declare that MaximaDrvr has pretty much pwn'd the garage.

1.) he has actually followed through with a crazy idea that all you wanna be queers doubted him on.

2.) in general, he's about to complete a project that basically anyone would doubt him on.

it doesn't make a difference if it works at all or not. this nigga had the balls to dive into a project against all odds, on a tight budget, and it's going to be completed.

i wonder how effective heat wrap would be on the parts in the cabin?

what are your plans for shielding?

how long do you think it will be before the tranny craps out?

I have many plans for the car that I just don't have funds for right now.
-I do plan on heat wrapping almost every pipe.
-I plan on adding a 16-18 guage sheet metal wall with insulation to separate the cabin

The tranny will probably shit a brick in less than 10,000 miles anyway. I expect to cut that in half now. So, 5,000 miles.
I have found three maximas that are $200 a piece. I figure I will just buy them and swap the transmissions as I eat them.
That will give me plenty of practice, and I can start the teardown of the block for my second iteration of this maxima. The future plan is a built bottom end, a port and polish of the head, new/upgraded valves and springs, and then real turbos pushing 18psi. This would also be with a 5spd swap and a limited slip dif.

Thanks BigBlueRam

do you really feel like that hood scoop is going to be effective for the i/c? oh, and, i like the mustang wheels. i gotta agree with BBR on this one. this is one nigger-rigged pos but it has me checking up on this thread 'cause like he said, you are actually following through with the nigger-rigging plans.

i agree.. and i never doubted he would do it.. i just doubted he would do it on his original budget.. which i'm sure he's gone way over by now.

Well, about the DVD: if you go look in that thread, I was the first person (and pretty much the only for like months) to say it would never be done because I know Mark well enough to figure that a longterm project like that won't ever be completed. You and others, including my own roommate at the time, kept insisting that it would be. Don't believe me? Search.

Secondly, whether you stated you were going to do it or not doesn't change the fact that your project is a nigger rigged peice of shit. I mean if you like it, thats fine, but there's absolutely no finesse and redeeming design quality gone into it. But its your time, money, and project so obviously what I say has no value. I will call a spade a spade though.

^Thirdly, you need to quit being a goddam shitbag about it, SandSanta...

I bet a lot of money that, even if Daryl's project doesn't do as well as planned, it was a damn good learning experience, and he wasn't afraid to do it.

This shit looks pretty cool. You're gonna need to make a vid from inside the car just so we can see how much turbo noise there is.

it doesn't seem like you planned it out very well - more of a "well nowhere else to put this so why not in the passenger seat" - was that your original intention? is the car going to be street legal in the end? if you get in an accident will you have a chance at survival?

i agree that it's not crucial that it's going to pass emissions tests and whatnot - but if most people were going to spend 1200+ they would at least have it planned out somewhat - it was just my observation that it doesn't appear planned out

Sounds planned out to me.....

its the exhaust into the cabin that will fail it.

i would leave the windows down just incase there is a slow leak somewhere.

Thumbs up overall though man, I like it. Who cares as long as you're learning, I say.

Still think you need to get off of automatic transmissions though

You can't infer that he didn't plan this out just because he didn't design it they way you would have. I know he put a lot of thought in to this thing.

Daryl, it looks cool as hell. Didn't you completely replace your transmission back in high school though? How do you make your car eat those things so quickly?

I think its definately one of the coolest projects I have seen in a while. It took some serious balls to go through with a project like that. I hope it runs well and I agree with the above comment that the reactions at the Autox will be priceless.

Hell Darryl I remember the first time you took that thing down to Rockingham and were pissed you couldnt get into the 15s I think. I guess you were determined to make something out of it.

I already only drive with the windows down. Haven't found any exhaust leaks yet.
It may look it, but I promise that it isn't "nig rigged". Yes, it is rigged though.

For all those that say it is the wrong platform:
I have had this car since late 99. I am not going to sell it unless it is totalled. I love the body on this car, so I figured I would make it a more fun ride as opposed the family car that it is meant to be.

well, the rear glass is glued up, and the doors are hollow.
The fronts I am leaving, so it doesn't rain in the car. I plan on removing the sunroof, and putting a blank in its place.

I have never riveted on side skirts. I used 3m tape because I didn't want them permanent. They were a half way completed project that got scrapped instead of completed.

You'd probably rather I didn't.

You're getting toasted pretty good over there, although, to be fair, if you just saw pictures of that buildup and nothing about budget constraints, it'd garner about the same results.

It's on page three or so, now, with mostly the same comments as here, some almost word for word.
