If y'all really want salisbury gone that badly, and an equal or greater number of people don't chime in to request otherwise, I'll do exactly what I said I'd do and moderate the Soap Box with an iron hand. Just recognize that while it will mean ridding the forum of salisburyboy, I'll extend the same March to the Sea courtesy to everyone else. I concede you do have a valid point there.

So how about this: if he can get 3 credible users (people well known w/ 5K posts or better) to vouch that he has something to contribute to the site, let him stay. At least one of these would have to come from in what Duke's opinion constitutes a semi-regular user/poster of the soap box. If he can do this in X amount of time, then he can stay. If he can't, he gets the boot and "don't let the door hit you in the ass" speech.

Everyone has made their point of where they stand on this issue and why. I'm proposing this as a compromise that all sides can hopefully live with. If you don't feel this is adequete, then please feel free to ammend/replace it, but lets get this issue over and done with.

I think that in the attempt to compromise on the issue, things only got a lot worse. The new Salisburyboy policy was harsh enough to upset both sides of the issue and not enough to really satisfy either side. Kind of like the old adage of hitting a bear with a 2x4.

Anyway, Salisburyboy isn't quite as bad as that crop of characters that popped up back in the day, but remember when this was posted? I kind of want to fall along the same lines. It's nothing but cut-and-paste nonsense. Not all of it is anti-Semetic, but still...

I haven't posted here a million times but I've been around recently, and I'm usually serious in the Soap Box, so here's an idea.

Instead of thinking about how severely you ought to mod the forum, maybe think instead about what can be done to encourage intelligent discussion. Hold a carrot in front of the pony instead of whacking it on the ass with varying intensity.

One way to cultivate a forum like this is to make posts that ask questions, dig deeper into the topic, bring out the opinions of posters, and attract more people to join the discussion.
