the fact that they have had a fair number of wars, however spread out, over the last few thousand years, over the land, should suggest that the area has been at war (off and on) for thousands of years

the fact that many religions consider jerusalem "the holy land" would lead anyone to believe the land is coveted by many who are willing to fight for it...and it didnt start 60 years ago
