Almost sounds more like a debit issue. Debit transactions are notorious for a temporary 20% markup at hotels and eating establishments. They hold the funds and then adjust to the actual amount after the transaction is processed. It's known as the float. They're doing an electronic float on a debit transaction justifiable as a relic from the days of floating paper checks.
It's really quite unethical since the bank makes money on the float, but we have to deal with the increasing pace of electronic finances.8/28/2006 1:44:03 AM |

WolfpackKC, if you're still reading this...the people who own I Love NY Pizza are kind of like the mob. They're hard core and are involved in some stuff. I just know this because I hear things. They also have smart kids. One of the guys who runs the cash register sometimes graduated from State with a degree in biochem. They're smart, connected, and they make a killing off that establishment. They've been there forever and have seen it all. I would just say there are better people to piss off than them. 8/28/2006 1:49:49 AM |

I'll share some shit. When I was in high school, I had a credit card. I got an allowance in cash each week, but I still managed to spend loads on credit each month. This went on for about two years before my father finaly took the "emergency" card away...LOL, I guess he wasn't down with his daughter skipping class to get drunk by herself and go on spending binges at the local mall--deep down inside I suspect he woulda been fine with my spending if I wasn't blowing my cash at lower-class establishments like J. Crew and Express.
Anyway, I had a gas station that would sell me alcoholic beverages at 16. I thought they were "cool" with me. Turns out they knew exactly how old I was and they were overcharging by two times; I figured it out eventually, but I still kept purchasing from them because they'd sell me booze (and my friends thought it was kickass that I could buy beer). You can imagine my father's mortification/rage when he found out his shopaholic daughter was also buying beer at twice the price on credit...
Just felt like sharing what a pathetic dumbass I was and reminding everybody to watch their CC bills... 8/28/2006 2:15:34 AM |

^ I say an alias. That took a bit of time to type up, so props for that.
Out of curiosity, is there a website for rating NCSU area restaurants? I'm curios what the customer service is like at other establishments. 8/28/2006 7:45:27 AM |

^didnt cuss until paper was thrown--still shouldnt have cussed though
despite my contentions I did send an apology to him through his daughter Farah for being ignorant of the credit card procedure and for cussing after he threw the papers. Farah is pretty cool and cognizant of some of the comments made; she was pretty cool about everything which has to make the owner a decent guy. 8/29/2006 9:31:28 AM |

Sylvia's has always been the better choice
the prices at I Heart NY change based on the time of day and your perceived level of intoxication
fuck that place - I've seen him yell at a guy because the guy commented on the more expensive pizza he was receiving when he was drunk
threatened to call the cops and kick the guy out 8/29/2006 11:10:21 AM |

The owner at NY pizza has always been fair to me.
Then again, I'm not one of those people that bitch and moan about mistakes when they happen. 8/30/2006 12:31:49 AM |

Sylvia is so much nicer, and the pizza is better too. It's a little bit crispy, instead of floppy and soggy like NY. 8/30/2006 1:07:50 AM |

this actually does happen...I thought I was overcharged at bada wings by a little more than the amount given in the story at the beginning of the thread. I went to the owner/manager, who was very nice about things, and said that the bank will put a charge on there, then take it off after several days...they somehow calculate a possible tip. He said if they did not take it off to come back to him in several days and he would refund my money
Everything turned out fine. 8/30/2006 1:17:40 PM |
