no they pretty much ran to the locker room after everyone saw the jumbo replay

amato was attempting to challenge but the officials fled the field instantly it seemed, at least hearing it over the radio it was quick.... should have been auto-challenged and put as DOWN

Even if they did (which they didn't), why does it matter?

What would them having been on the field mattered? Considering people allegedly started throwing shit (which I didn't see, but God knows with our fanbase it's more than believable), I'd get off the field too.

Even if it was auto-challenged, it wouldn't have been overturned. Every replay they had at the game showed him clearly breaking the plane. Only a single picture taken at an arbitrary time is getting you people up in arms.

See where he is? If even the very tip of the ball goes over the vertical area above the white line (which it did), that's a touchdown. If it even nicks the space above the goal line, it's a touchdown.

If you want anything even remotely conclusive, you need the video they showed on the Jumbrotron at the end of the game, which (wouldn't you know it!) shows the battle breaking the plane. This picture proves nothing, other than that you'd all rather be screwed by refrees than just gracefully admit defeat.

^are we looking at the same picture??

his elbow is down and the ball is not over the line. i agree that real time/during a game refs might not see that...but now we have a clear picture. he is down...and the ball is not over the time...no...not any of it...i dont care if the camera is not looking right down the line. there is no way that any part of that ball has broken the plane.

i know you would like to believe this...but get past it. what you see in the picture is proof that he was down. plain and simple.

i cant beleive anybody hasn't even mentioned the next to last play in this game.... Akron received probably the most favorable ball placement I have ever seen, especially in a situation with the game on the line. Even a ref with one lazy eye could have saw the ball was down on the 1.5-2 yard line and somehow they placed it about 8 inches from the goal. Given those extra 5-6 feet, that last play wouldn't have even been close!

I know you would like to believe this...but get past it. We deserved to lose and the team's performance, lack of discipline after our touchdown, and Amato's inability to challenge to get a replay prove it, plain and simple.

Why did Akron's coach have the good sense to challenge a play where he thought Stone was over the line of scrimmage, but Amato was off running to the locker room after the last play of the game? Oh, that's right, we used them all.

We lost. Period. And if we did win, I would personally petition the NCAA to get the result of the game changed because there was no way in hell we should have won that game. 3-9 here we come.

No s***.

10 years from now, the game will read a loss. If the position was reversed, you'd be telling Akron newspapers and websites to shut the f*** up, the scoreboard says we won.

^ That was all of what was shown on Amato on TV by ESPN. So I guess that's all they found fitting of him to show.

These were ACC refs right? I'm not arguing that the guy had a clearcut TD, just that it doesn't matter, the game is over and it is and always be a loss regardless of what we discuss here. That's pretty sad, cause your conference's refs are supposed to be biased toward their own teams in borderline calls anyway (cynical view).

Whether he was down or not, we deserved to lose for letting a garbage team even be in the position to be able to possibly score on the last play to beat us.

No. That only applies when teams are "equal", like an Ohio State vs. Texas matchup. When one team is above another, like yesterday's game, it's usually home team refs.

that is so true. every fucking time we lose everyone bitches about how the refs screwed us and fire everyone. we played shitty. we didnt deserve to win that game. suck it up and move on. what pisses me off is we can't lose with class. our fans make us look bad. even if there are bad calls, it's fucking stupid and childish to throw shit on the field. some of our fans are like chidren and have to throw their little temper tantrum. just suck it up and move on and take the loss like men. You guys are all crazy. There a few points I have to say after reading some of the incredibly stupid post in here.

Point one- Whether he was in or not that play should of been reviewed. The reason I say this is in a close game, that every person with eyes knew was going to be a controversial ending, plays like that should be reviewed just to make sure.

Second point- Even if it had been reviewed I doubt there would of been any replay at that time that would of shown conclusive evidence to him being down. As a result we still lose, so no matter if theres a picture or not we lose. We just gotta deal with it an move on.

Third- All of you saying that we deserve to lose need to get over yourselves. Did we play like crap, yes. Did play calling suck at times, yes. Should we of been in the position in the first place, no. Either way all people ever talk about when defending stone or our season is a wins a win. So taking that as it is, had we won everyone would of been happy. Yes we played horrible, but a wins a win, stop with all the we deserve to win i'm gonna petition blah blah.

Forth- We lost because of a combination of Stone, and play calling. Now I don't hate stone cause he's supposedly the best we have, but he's a below average quarterback, and proved that in the first half. I give him lots of credit for bringing us back in the game, but his reads in the second half were much much simpler then the first. Coaching is my other blame. I want chuck fired personally, however until that time I will support our team (without booing our coach, or throwing things on the field). Fact of the matter is if chucks such a good recuriter, and a good coach why do we have a quarterback problem? I mean if I was offered a scholarship to play at a place I knew I'd start as a freshman I'd jump on the offer. So why don't we have a good quarterback?

Last point- In answer to above question I think we need to start Burke(sp?) Some of you may say well stones the best we have. Well to you I say how do you know that, and since a lot of people do doubt our coach, how do we know he's not wrong and that Burke really is better. This is Stones last year, but I think playing for the future is something we need to do now, because honestly what do we have to lose? In all likelyhood we're not going to a bowl game, or even having a winning season if our play continues, so why not give the kid a shot and see what happens.

Ok I'm done rambling so enjoy

Ok, the elbow was down.

3 conclusions.

1.) These were ACC refs (so they weren't biased toward Akron, if anything, they would be biased toward us).
2.) We had no timeouts (to force a challenge), and that is a coaching mistake.
3.) We still lost and our record is still 1-1. You can be like that one guy on this forum that still thinks Roger Maris is the season HR record holder and deny facts and the truth of the matter, but we still lost and we're still 1-1.

This is why they should get rid of instant replay. Refs will never be 100% right, but if you aim for 100 and get 99, fans get pissed off. So you might as well leave at 90 comfortable in the knowledge that the refs make mistakes, but it will be for both teams.

Dude, have you noticed since they've come out with replay that ACC officials don't have the balls to make any decision on a play, whether a play was a fumble or not for example? So what they do is they give continuation the benefit of the doubt and then they know there will be a replay. The end result of this is "inconclusive evidence" for a call that was not sure to start with. So a lot of plays turn out wrong just because they cannot overturn them 100%. The game is not called any better and for ACC officials anyway they no longer make split-second decisions on what they think is correct when that is what is required of them for instant replay to work. I sat for 5 seconds yesterday not knowing if Akron got a touchdown or not cause a ref didn't put his arms up or come across marking the end yard line of play. It was like they were looking around waiting for someone to make a decision.

Quote :
"How do you call a timeout when the clock has expired?"

Can't he challenge the play with one at the end of regulation? I know you can't challenge if you don't have a timeout remaining. When Akron's coach challenged and the play was upheld, they took away a timeout. Since Amato had no timeouts remaining, he couldn't challenge the play.

The picture alone doesn't prove shit. I don't understand why that's so hard for you all to understand.

The video replay that everyone saw at the end of the game, the same one the refs would have looked at, showed him getting in. he end of the ball breaks the plane - presumably before that picture was even taken. The call never would have been overturned.

This isn't a bad statement for 90% of the game, but refs with replay should have no excuse for not getting the last play correct. They can take all the time they need since the game is over unless there is a defensive penalty. IMO instant replay is most important in the last 2 minutes and thats when they fucked up... inexcusable
