Used to happen in college several times a year. Once you get a normal sleep cycle, it rarely occurs.

yea, possibly...i never really notice unless i'm takin a nap, so i usually just tie it in with the sleep paralysis.

OP @ 10/19/2006 11:50:57 AM

Searching for this thread on 10/19 @ 2am still half asleep only added to the horribly freaky feeling. Definitely dream and drug induced. Probably the third time in 5 years, but that helpless feeling never dissipates.

i get the sleep paralysis thing like once a week i feel like. i don't really know if that is what it is but i feel awake except i can't move. but sometimes it happens to me falling asleep, so i don't really know if that is what it is. but it happens waking up too. it is definitely scary.

only read the first few posts, but i get this all the time. it usually involves me dying and then waking up. sometimes i'll look around my room try to get out of bed and as soon as i move i just fall to the floor completely unable to move in complete agony and skeletons will crawl out of spacetime and i'll snap awake. the worst is just trying to scream (because if you aren't used to it you think you might actually be dying) and knowing that someone is very close by and can't hear you. A good way to go into this is to lounge around and go back and forth between being awake and asleep very quickly. you're body may be confused into mismanaging the amount of whatever neurotransmitter it uses to paralyze you. and i just stepped away because i was cooking and i don't remember where i was going this.

yeah thats never a good morning, and a pretty good sign i'm going to have a shitty day. i know it sounds weird but i'm pretty sure i can do this on command. i can also with some success have lucid dreams on command. A LOT BETTER THAN SLEEP PARALASYS.

I got this quite a bit a few years ago. Sometimes I would half wake up feeling like really, really stoned, and it would get more and more intense til I'd realize I was not breathing and wake up gasping for air. One time in particular I got the half awake very stoned feeling and felt a sensation like I was being pulled or sucked down the length of the bed while not being able to move or stop it. That was freaky as hell.

in mine i always think i'm getting up and doing things. like getting up to turn of the alarm. going to take a shower. etc etc. but then i'm not i'm just laying there. but its like i vividly hallucinate that i'm doing things but i can't move. i don't know. it is really weird. should prob ask the dr next time i go with my laundry list of issues.

so i guess i just have some crazy psycho problems going on deep in my subconscious or something.

i'll try to stick to lucid dreams.

There is evidence that alien abductions are lucid dreams that occur while you're slightly conscious during a sleep paralysis episode. I can see it, because it seems like you're restrained and the bed could easily become an examination table.

There's also evidence that supports it being a spontaneous release of DMT though.

I frequently will be asleep but responsive for a few minutes after i first wake up. Ill talk to people and assume they see the same things i do (my eyes will be open and ill swear im watching a tv thats not there).

Its kinda freaky, esp because i tend to be more angry and violent when im in this stage (ie, if you push me ill push you off the bed, or if you distrub me ill yell at you)

I also find i do things in my sleep frequently or talk about htings with people when im sleeping and i wont remember it.

It kinda sucks.

i havent read the whole thread but i had this happen several times to me in highschool. about a 6 month period 2-3 times a week....

i fell out of my bed a few times from convulsing and couldn't voluntarily move.

come to find out i was having some sort of seizures as well and was on medicine and heavy supervision when i slept for a while.

luckily i've not had an episode since.

OMG!! I had this happen in class on Friday! I fell asleep in Zo 250 and I 'woke' up I could see myself sorta shaking but I couldn't move or wake up. It was like a mini-seizure I could see but I wasn't awake...weird!!

My old roommate used to sit straight up in bed for no reason when he was asleep. Then he'd babble about water and sunshine. After that he'd just lay back down like nothing happened.

First time it happened it scared the crap out of me because of the suddenness of it.

I still think this and DMT are where alien abduction stories come from.

^ Coricidin. Do you really know about the Coricidin Cough and Cold?

I can certainly believe that too btw. Some redneck in a trailer eats 16 coricidin thinking it will help with his cold and then he gets abducted by elves.

It was really bad this morning. I think I was unable to move or talk for at least 30 minutes.

lolextromethorphan

In my dream I ate a handful of vicodin Greg House style and immediately was paralyzed, fell to the floor and started freaking out thinking 'wtf is this really the thrill that junkies chase?' It was almost impossible to open my eyes and check the time on my laptop - only 10 minutes had passed since I fell asleep. So then I know I'm still dreaming and I really try to force myself to wake up and it took what felt like an eternity.

Finally I'm awake and it's like 3:30 am. I wasn't on drugs or anything, but I had been a bit sleep deprived over the past two days.

worst shit ever.

I get this a lot... it's not the same as night terrors. I used to get them all the time as a child and now I get them in spurts where I will get them fairly often for about a month and then they die down for a while.

I actually have a sleeping disorder that hasn't been pinned down as of yet. Cool thing is that I am getting sleep study done soon... and I have some friends that want to come watch ha ha ha. Should be interesting to see what they find.

I know that high stress levels make mine occur more often. My Dad has weird sleeping habits... so it could be partly hereditary... my sleep patterns I guess.
