So anyone played the expansion yet?
Called forged alliance, it features a new race, and some new units for each faction.
I love the new stuff, some of the new units are kickass.
But what I love the most is the game balance changes they made to the core of the game, to units that already existed.
The biggest one is the economic changes, previously the tech 3 power generator gave you 2500 power, and the tech 3 mass fabricator drained 1500 power and put out 24 mass. So if you have both, that's a net of 1000 power and 24 mass, and since you get adjacency bonuses if your fabricators are touching power plants, if you build them in "grids" you get even more power. Because of this, as soon as you got your first tech 3 power plant built you were pretty much set in economy, just get people to constantly build more power plants and fabricators. I call it a "runaway economy" where everyone has pretty much all the resources they could ever spend. Add that to the fact that the tech 3 mass extractors, the mines that get metal from the ground, only put out 12 mass, or a max of 15 when you surround them with mass storage. This meant that people could pretty much turtle in one well defended location, and not worry about map control once you got to tech 3.
Now, the power plant pumps out the same amount, but the mass fabricators require 3500 power, and only produce 15 mass. This makes your combo of one each net you -1000 power and 15 mass, thus you have to have more than one plant per fabricator. This seriously helps the runaway economy problem. Also, the mass extractors pump out 18 mass, and 27 when surrounded by mass storage (plus they only use about 50 energy). This makes map control important again. 12/10/2007 10:41:54 PM |

Lame. What the fuck good is a game with thousands of units and up to 8 people competing at once if only a small percentage can play it without crippling slowdown.
Especially for a game in which is spend the most time looking at a screen of dots and symbols.
I LOVE TA and the concept of SC, but the implementation of it just makes me angry.
