I was wearing my UT hat around Disney World today...gotta couple of stares from some UF fans, but they know UT still beat them twice in bball last year and it will happen again this year.

Chris Lofton=best college shooter. He unlike JJ WILL be a good NBA player.

^ stunning, just stunning.

Quote :
"KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Lofton's sprained right ankle likely will keep Tennessee's star guard out of Wednesday night's game at Mississippi.

Coach Bruce Pearl said Monday that X-rays did not show any broken bones, but it has not been determined whether the there is ligament damage.

"X-rays were negative today as far as any breaks were concerned," Pearl said. "It's just a matter of whether or not it will be a one-, two-, potentially three-week ankle sprain. It's a pretty good sprain. He's got pretty good swelling."

Lofton, who leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring at 21.5 points per game, sprained the ankle in the second half of Saturday's 64-61 victory over South Carolina.

Lofton had made good progress since the injury, but Pearl said, "You just don't know how it's going to respond."

The Vols visit Kentucky on Sunday, a key game for the Maysville, Ky., native. If he can't return, Pearl said he hasn't decided if Jordan Howell, Tony Passley or Josh Tabb would replace him.

"Anytime you lose a player, everybody else is going to step up a little bit. Anytime you lose an All-American, everyone has to step up a lot," Pearl said.

well, wasnt expecting that, beat the living shit out of Vandy... I was really close to putting a bet on Vandy to cover the 6.

I should never doubt the power of the orange blazer

Quote :
""It's great to beat Vanderbilt because they're a rival. That's why I've got the orange jacket on," Pearl said. "It's even better when they're ranked."

Vanderbilt (16-8, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) won the teams' first meeting on a last-second basket and hoped to sweep the Vols this season.

But Pearl got out the blinding orange blazer he wears only for rivals Vanderbilt and Kentucky, and Tennessee (17-8, 5-5) dominated on its homecourt from start to finish. Vanderbilt was held to a season-low in points.
"

17-8 with 6 games left, 3 against ranked teams, including top ranked Florida at home.
Kentucky
at South Carolina
Alabama
at Arkansas
Florida
at Georgia

Need to win the so called "gimme" game, South Carolina, and at least 2 out of the rest... was hoping a win or two in the SEC tourny could help but they will probably get a low seeding because of Lofton being out during the heart of the SEC schedule so they might get stuck with a bad first/second round matchup... but I think with their schedule and the fact that they have beat several highly ranked (at the time) teams (Oklahoma St., Texas, Memphis, Vandy) 20 wins with be enough.

huge game tonight... Kentucky kicked our ass last time, but Lofton was out... he still isnt 100% so I look for us to lose a close one but who knows. The crowd will definitely be hyped up and to top it off they are retiring Bernard King's jersey at halftime.

Quote :
"After losing at Rupp Arena 88-82 in his first game against Kentucky in 1975, King told reporters afterward, "They will never beat us again as long as I play at Tennessee."

And the Vols won the next five games against the Wildcats

Haha Pearl is the man.

UT is ranked 14th by collegerpi.com and should be in decent shape with the schedule they have played. The committee will also factor in the games without Lofton as well.

yeah, I think they are in no matter what (well, unless something like losing every single remaining game) with their high rpi and the number of ranked teams they have beat... but tonight is huge more from a rivalry standpoint. Kentucky is the beast/bully of the SEC in bball, BY FAR the best program ever, they have dominated Tennessee as of late (weird thing is Tennessee was really good against Kentucky a few years back when the overall team was horrible), Lofton is from Kentucky but they never offered him a scholarship for some odd reason (was Mr. Basketball in Kentucky) so he always plays with a chip on his shoulder against them.... should be a really good game, crowd will be totally nuts, and of course, the Orange "Rival" blazer will be in full effect
