Uhhh

How does the Zune have crippled features? It does what your ipod would do and adds wifi. An extra feature, useful or not, does not exactly make a device crippled.

Look, I've used a billion mp3 players and I still believe that the Ipod is probably the best. However, I happen to prefer the styling of the Zune and its, in my opinion, better interface.

If you're going to get something other then an ipod, you'd be stupid not to get a Zune. Especially with Microsoft's history of excellent firmware updates with the Xbox.

youve got the added bulk for the wireless so you can trade songs with the other 5 people who have zunes. and then they drm the traded music so you can only listen 3 times and cant trade it again no matter where the music came from. and then it has its own software instead of doing the logical thing and using wmp. its bananas

maybe in the future theyll allow you to download via wifi, but till then...

The added bulk is mainly from the screen, not the wireless.

Having a nice big pretty screen is definitely worth the "bulk."

I also want to point out that as much as people bitch about bulkiness, they don't quite realize that nobody really carries an MP3 player in their hand around (which is tolerable with a zune, btw). Most people either strap it somewhere or put it in the pocket and the Ipod video's dimensions aren't that much better for a strap-and-run then the Zune's and the Zune is certainly smaller then my beast wallet.

In conclusion, I'm dumb and attracted to pretty colors so the Zune is awesome.

yeah it wouldnt fit into any of my pockets even though it isnt too much bigger than an ipod. the ipod fit fine because it is slim. if the large screen required that the thing be so thick it wasnt worth it.

is that sarcasm? the wireless is just for beaming songs to other zune users, not for downloading from your computer. you still need usb

Dude

Either you wear some skin tight pants, or you're totally making that up. There's no way a zune wouldn't fit in a loose jean's pocket.

the Zune is cool...but in regards to 'not being able to strap an ipod to a arm band' thats what the Nano is for

The nano is a different class of MP3 player and thus not part of this discussion.

its an mp3 player that holds mp3's and photos thus still part of any mp3 player discussion. Zune doesn't have a solution for 'working out' like ipod does.

I don't think thats necessarily true. The Nano's size, physical and data, along with price point are targeted for a different user group. Nobody would choose a Nano over the Ipod 30gig/80gig or Zune unless they were specifically looking for a very small, very light player.

In that regard, it has no place in this discussion.

sony phone

4 gigs of mp3s and a phone all in 1 place

(not to mention 2 mega pix camera too)

so you're telling me

Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) connectivity and you can't set it up on a wireless lan to drag & drop songs?

[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 5:10 PM. Reason : if thats true thats pretty lame]

Sony Ericsson != Sony phones

and if you are too lazy to write Sony Ericsson, just use SE.

^^^ I think he was talking about Zune the brand vs iPod the brand. He wasn't saying the zune and nano aren't in different classes, just that the "zune" brand currently has no answer to light small players like the nano.

Im waiting for the wave of scratched up screen reports to come in. no way in fucking hell could you put the zune in any kind of case. it would be even larger (is that possible).

JonHGuth, its not that big. Seriously, get off it. I've definitely had bigger and even more functional MP3 players then the Zune (including a MD MP3 player ) and the device itself is light enough that carrying it around in the pocket isn't that big of a deal. As an added bonus, with the wifi and ubar big screen MS could add browsing if it wanted, though that would be retarded since there's no keypad.

Chary, Mark was responding to a post in which I singled out the Ipod Video in particular, not the Nano:

"ipod video's dimensions aren't that much better for a strap-and-run " - my original quote.

So really you can't just through the Nano into this mix without doing a whole new comparison in which the Nano only wins size and battery life.

if you had the option of a first gen ipod or a current one because of their size difference, you would take the current one

i'm not saying the zune is huge but i know it's going to get smaller with time

i'm willing to wait on it for a bit

Well yea, I mean if you don't need it you don't need it.

Everything I said applies only if you're currently in the market looking, otherwise go ahead and wait for the MP3 player that will one day be able to play FLAC and be no thicker then a credit card.
