"and to be clear, I'm not talking about the guys that go around screwing everythign that moves and has gotten 10 women pregnant and doesn't pay any child support. I am talking about upstanding men who have 1 partner (lets just say she is his gf) and she get's pregnant and one of them doesn't want to have the baby."

Oh, so "all men" shouldn't have a right of refusal? That's what I'm seeing here. I don't have any problems with rational guys discussing this all out and determining that they really can't have a kid right now while she wants to keep it. Then, yes, it's her issue now. But the ones who are repeat refusers I have a huge problem with.

"As far as when the woman wants the kid and the guy doesnt and child support issues- I think that's more complex. I think the woman still has the right to override the guy and keep the kid, but as far as the financial and legal responsibility afterwards, that's a little more complicated, and unfortunately putting "situation specific" laws doesnt really work. (I think in some situations the guy needs to pay up, in others, no, but like i said, complicated)."

that is exactly how i feel. I never meant for the man to be able to force the woman to give up the child as it is her body that has to deal with whatever choice is made so that should be her decision. I was talking about having to pay child support for 18 years for something you we're against.

exactly how I feel. I guess what I am talking about is people in dedicated relationships that have differences of opinion that may lead them to split up. Not someone who is with someone different every week.

I agree completely with StillFuchsia in this thread.

The main problem I see with the woman having all the responsibility is that actions need to have consequences.

It will become way to easy for a guy to just say "Hey, she can always get abortion" and not face any consequences for it.

Same reason why I favor restrictions on abortions in some cases, when a woman is having multiple abortions just for the hell of it because she doesnt want to use bc, she needs to go ahead and get her damn tubes tied.

in my mind the ideal law is this...

If one parent wants to keep the kid, then the other has to help support it.

Both sides need to agree for the abortion if there is one. People need to live with the consequences of their actions

As long as there is no extreme risk to the mother during pregnancy though...in that regard yes, the mother does have more rights than the father. Thats it.

this is a silly method of male birth control... a drug which interferes with the contraction of muscles sounds suspiciously like it could have a number of distressing side effects. however, it would make practice of tantric sex a lot easier, a lot more men would be walking around thinking they are god, haha.

in china many men use the extract of cotton root bark which contains a polyphenol called gossypol which inhibits sperm production. however researchers stopped evaluating it for western use in the 1980's because a significant number of men cannot fully recover their reproductive potential after ceasing to take the drug. now they are investigating another traditional chinese medicinal plant called le gong teng which appears to be fully reversible.

in reality, there's no real equality among sexes even though we try. normally, i support women on any baby issue because its men's responsibilty to wear a condom or some kind of birth control device. (unless it's some psycho bitch or something.) if you don't want a baby, wear a condom. plain and simple. this is a fairly easy responsibility for guys.

i just believe that once a women becomes pregnant, she has a right to an abortion or keep it. of course the guy can have affect on the decision if she wants him to.

and every guy on here is complaining about equality. the only guys who would complain at the time their girlfriend is pregnant are douches because they should have worn a condom before they had sex.

"if you get pregnant, and the father says fuck that, and you still have the baby thats on you. the guy shouldnt be forced to pay child support every month. and if you miss child support you go to jail, but the child support doesnt stop so after you get out of jail where you havent been working you have this huge debt that you are completely incapable of paying. its bananas man, bananas."

then the father is a douche.

child support can be worked around court. if you're a upstanding guy, then you should know the child is part of your fault. so pay the child support. if you can't pay certain months, then you should tell the mother and it could be worked out. if not, then the mothers a bitch, and you had a kid in a bad relationship.

i know this sucks, but having a kid at the wrong time generally sucks. so just take the time to think before having sex. all men should do this.

^^pregnancies are not always from a relationship, so yes im in favor of equality

if my position is so wrong then my logic should be easy to attack, yet no one has even tried.

^Your logic is completely sound, and its something i've preached for a long time, and i have as of yet heard any refute it with a statement that isn't "i want men and women to be equal, but women should have this major power over men in this situation" It just goes in circles. Thats why I don't argue with people of that nature, because at the end of the day i'll be frustrated and they'll still be retarded and crazy.

that is from those who support abortion. for those who don't, the quest for equality is simple.
