yeah. i didn't know about the 87s being tbi until i was doing some research on them this weekend. i didn't really have time to go over the truck all that well when i found it over thanxgiving break. i had a family friend who is good with cars go and look at it for me after i left and test drive it. after he approved it, my mom said she would pick it up for me. im gonna get better aquainted with it over break.

and i either have a non-original motor, or a non-original tailgate( i'm guessing tailgate, because that makes more sense but you never know), because the tailgate has the deisel emblem instead of the 5.7 emblem. one of the first things i'm gonna do is check the VIN number and RPO codes to see what equipment was original on the truck and then see what all has been changed.

and your right. ill admit, i have a lot of learning to do.

just look at the title or even the registration. either should denote whether it was originally gas or diesel. at least in nc they do...

no offense. u paid 1k for it. why not just throw some ok not great tires on there and drive it around as is.

i mean i can understand wanting to fix it up and all.... but u know?

for now that what i'm doing, since the tires on it were so terrible(one of the rear ones had absolutely no tread pattern left). my mom is getting new tires on her 95 buick roadmaster and we had her old 225s switched over to the truck so i can drive it while i'm home for break.

i'll look at the title when i get home to see about gas or deisel (i would imagine it denotes it in ohio too. and i found an awesome website dedicated to 73-87 chevy pickups with a full break down of what the VIN numbers mean if not). i haven't even gotten to see the title yet. my mom picked up the truck and did the title transfer and everything for me while i've been down here.

if i were u i would drive around as is stock for a while and wait to see what breaks on it. if nothing then start modding it. if shit breaks like the tranny, rear end, engine etc then say fuggit and call it a loss lol.

you can just do some hand polishing on the aluminum items in the engine bay and make them look better

You can paint them white if they aren't already, just sand down the sidewalls with increasingly fine grades of sandpaper until you're just through the reinforcement, then tape 'em, paint 'em, and tube 'em.

I have to say, this is a great thread!!

And why does everybody hate the scottsdale (other than the fact that the owner has some learning to do)?

the owner admits he needs to learn a thing or 2, he's not sure y everyone hates his truck though

other than the fucked up paint, and the fact that it is sitting on some bullshit, the truck is more than likely pretty cool. especially since it was $1000. however, the owner has had his cool points revoked. therefore, the truck is uncool vicariously.

the owner knows the truck is sitting on bullshit, but likes the fact that it is black even though it does not match its interior (he will likely fix that in the future). the owner also understands y his cool points have been revoked and knows that it will take him a long time to regain them. (he is also confused as to y he is speaking of himself in the third person and hopes that it does not result in a further loss of cool points, but o well). and he attestifies to the potential coolness of the truck if he was cooler with the badass sound of the headers and cherrybomb mufflers combined with the 350

if i was gonna straight pipe it, id go all the way and run 3 inch not 2 inch. but im not gonna do much with the exhaust right now since its all new true dual under there. i wish it was bigger though. when its idlin. its pretty quiet. no nice chevy rumble.

question- would expanding the pipes to like 2 and a half or 3 inches after the mufflers, and putting like 3 and a half or 4 inch tips get more of a low rumble out of it while its idlin?

has the thing got headers, and functioning cats? it would most probably change the exhaust note some at idle, but i wouldnt go for it. save the $$ for other mods.

nicely tuned engine for the application+headers+perforated core mufflers with matched diameter tubing=score in my book

Not sure how the TBI will hold up, but with a dang brick like that just straright pipe it, throw some 33-35's on there, weld the front diff and drive it into stuff. That's what we do anyway.

P.S. as for the exhaust note, the best truck exhaust I have heard in a long time is to just knock the ends off of some old drive shafts and weld them up (but leave the nack down and the end, makes it sound better.

eh? wtf is the point of that? a driveshaft is free, you might use like $00.000001 worth of a cutting wheel, and the welding costs the same.

So uhm, yeah, a driveshaft is free

It is in fact a real picture.
How you interpret it is your own deal, I just thought it was a neat shot, never made any claim as to the validity of what it implies.

real as in it's parked in front of it. that pic has been hashed out a number of times on various dodge boards.
