Completely doable. You'll lose more than 2 lbs. per week starting off till you get closer to a healthy weight, then it becomes harder, or slower rather. But, thats a realistic goal. I recommend setting 10 - 15 lb. goals to keep you motivated and to keep you from obsessing over it.
1/11/2007 3:31:09 PM
Dang these healthy things are looking expensive... I'm pretty motivated though![Edited on January 11, 2007 at 3:33 PM. Reason : trhwsr]

I jsut hope there are a few fattiesin there struggling like me, I'll feel more at home. hahaEveryone had their new years resolution recently so maybe I'll spot some...[Edited on January 11, 2007 at 3:47 PM. Reason : ^That's what I was referring to when I look decent, I dont know my waist size]
1/11/2007 3:47:05 PM
There are always fat people at the gym.More prevalent now, because as you said, the month long New Year's Resolution gym members haven't disappeared yet.
1/11/2007 3:53:37 PM
At my gym I rarely to never see fat people. There are tons of slim Asians with nice racks though.. Go figure... Though I go at peak hours after work so maybe the fatties don't want to be seen by all the people who actually are in shape.[Edited on January 11, 2007 at 3:54 PM. Reason : x]

I switched to miller lite.

You should really read the book "Skinny Bitch"... I forgot who the authors are. It talks about all of the unhealthy things in your food. You get all of the right info without being bored. I started reading it and couldn't stop. I immediatly threw out all of my unhealthy foods and went shopping for the right stuff. I've only been eating fruits, vegetables, complex carbs, and drinking lots of water. I HIGHLY encourage you to read "SKINNY BITCH"!

1/11/2007 5:08:50 PM
I just spent way too much money on 25 sessions with a personal trainer. Shit better work.
1/11/2007 5:40:52 PM
i had a personal trainer once, all she did was make me really muscular (manly). cardio was what worked best for me to lose weight, and you don't really need a trainer for that. it is good though to build up some muscle because it burns a lot more calories. just don't let the trainer turn you into a bodybuilder! haha
1/11/2007 5:43:17 PM
Just keep in mind it's 80% diet and 20% cardio. It's so much easier to not eat 500 calories than it is to work it off. You better have a plan. Not just saying "I'll eat healthier, blah blah blah". You need to take steps to ensure that this is reasonable to accomplish and you don't fall back into old patterns of behavior. With no direction, you have no clue where you are going.
1/11/2007 5:45:47 PM
Yeah the trainer is a nutritionist as well, probably why it's expensive maybe, will help me along with foods to eat and stuff..EDIT: ^^ I told them my main goal is to lose weight and they said I could lose itin 4-5 months. damn I better![Edited on January 11, 2007 at 5:50 PM. Reason : dfhdf]
1/11/2007 5:47:12 PM
you should eat [healthy things] many times during the day if you are wanting to raise your metabolism, so don't take that appetite suppressant shit!Seriously, you should eat like a Type I diabetic and you will lose weight.
1/11/2007 6:00:38 PM
Eleusis do you have personal trainer experience? You seem to be into the working out scene and I'm just wondering what to expect tomorrow at my first meeting with the dude.
1/17/2007 11:06:01 PM
i could lose 50 lbs in 4 months.without working out...or vomiting.[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ]
1/17/2007 11:06:50 PM
The weight trainer said I could too. I just wonder how hard they're gonna work me so damn early in the morning. [Edited on January 17, 2007 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ah well you're a guy]
1/17/2007 11:07:38 PM
I've never worked with a personal trainer, although I'm about to at some point in the next couple of months. when I signed up at my new gym, it came with 3 free personal training sessions.you'll probably end up getting pushed to work out a little bit harder and faster than you normally would on your own. ask your trainer questions about why he's doing things in the order that he is directing you, and what benefit they have for the body. it will help you understand the basics better and allow you to figure out how to train on your own later on.
1/17/2007 11:09:31 PM
according to my scale...im down 12.6lbs since January 1st.
1/17/2007 11:10:53 PM
Cool, so the first few times are gonna suck ass. Oh well, better to get it over with and into smaller pants. They explained to me that the sessions were to help me find out what works best so I can continue it on my own.
1/17/2007 11:11:05 PM
LEARN TO COOK!This will make eating healthy so much easier for you. Also, have you tried using raw spinach in salads instead of lettuce? I can't stand cooked spinach (except in spinach artichoke dip), but I love it raw in salads.
1/17/2007 11:19:28 PM
I should probably sign up for a gym because paying a fee would make me more likely to attend.I could stand to lose at least 30 lbs myself.
1/17/2007 11:19:51 PM
I'm eating darker leaves instead of that iceberg crap. I got some hummus and celery, tomatos, wheat bread, turkey, tuna, apples, bananas, granola bars, carrots, rice cakes, super crazy concentrated fruit drinks of organicness....all sorts of basic natural stuff.
1/17/2007 11:22:20 PM
don't waste your money if you're not going to attend. most gyms thrive on the basis people thinking along the lines of what you just said, and then never finding time to go.[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 11:24 PM. Reason : don't eat the rice cakes very often. they're a dieter's nightmare]
1/17/2007 11:23:38 PM
I haven't had one yet, I have lots of "snack" type food for variety. Once a day or less
1/17/2007 11:26:05 PM
ive been losing weight quickly without much effort...just a dramatic change to my diet.no meat, almost no dairy.wake up at 930-10breakfast, special k with just enough soy milk to moisten it, and drain each spoon before i take a bite.snack of baby carrots.dinner will be usually some tofu dish, veg sausage, eggplant, portabello mushrooms, etc.more carrots, or some hummus.drinking just water or diet soda. treat myself to a skim milk, sugar free vanilla latte on occasion.not cooking with oil or butter, just using herbs and a nonstick pan.no fried foods.cut back on carbs.etc.
1/17/2007 11:27:04 PM
For some reason the diet thing isn't working for me. The other times I've lost weight I've cut back on food. I've done this and I'm still the same weight, it's been a week. Usually I lose a shitton in the first few weeks from cutting back on soda and fried food.I don't know what it is, my job, change in metabolism, or what but something is preventing me, so work out is the next best thing. I need to stay motivated enough to keep going though.
1/17/2007 11:29:16 PM
it all comes down to discipline, some have it, some dont. just keep trying, and tell yourself you can do it. start with healthier food, and a little exercise...building it up with time. set weekly goals, and weigh yourself daily...marking your progress with something like http://www.weighttracker.info . just try to keep your goals realistic, and allow it to take time. not all things come quickly, you just cant get discouraged.
1/17/2007 11:33:25 PM
and when all else fails, turn to drugs.
1/17/2007 11:34:10 PM
I'm hoping these personal trainer meetings will get me going regularly enough that I'll continue when we're done. Thanks for the optimism!

Tips:1. You won't lose 50 lbs. It's a good goal, and stick with it, but 50lbs seems unrealistic. I say that because you only say 5'8" and chubby. You said you're not obese by the chart so I'm guessing you are around 180lbs. If you were 220, then yes 50lbs is possible but going from 180lbs to 130 sounds pretty ridiculous. According to the chart, you would have a BMI of 20 and that would make you practically a stick. Unless you gained the 50lbs in college, and the last time you saw 130lbs was senior year of highschool you might have a chance. But if you have always been built the way you have been, 30lbs is more realistic.2. Sorry, but 2lbs a week is very easy to say but much harder to do. The first 25lbs will be easy, the last 25 will be utterly misreable. Stick with 1lb a week and extend your goal time to next January. You'll be more mentally sane and won't feel so bad if you miss your goal.3. You'll lose weight the 1st 2 weeks and feel good. You'll gain that weight back the next 2 weeks and feel like shit. That's because you are hopefully gaining muscle, so do not give up then. The lesson here is not that you want to lose 50lbs total, but rather you want to lose about 30 lbs of fat and gain about 10 lbs of muscle. I don't know the actual fat to muscle formula, but you get the idea.4. Quit the soda. If you drink, Quit drinking Beer or any form of alcohol. That might suck for you, but days when you have 5 or 6 beers add up real fast. You don't just pee it out. Some of that shit sticks.5. Portion your meals. Big breakfast (Not too big) medium lunch, small dinner. Never eat big at night if all you are gonna do after that is go to bed. Your wasting that potential energy and then it converts to fat.6. Three days at the gym doesn't cut it unless you are in there for 3 to 4hr sessions. If you really want to lose this weight, you'll be in their 5 days a week, 2 days cardio, 3 days lifting weights. I cannot stress the weight lifting. Every 1lb of muscle you gain burns a certain percentage of calories an hour. It adds up.7. Don't quit after 1 month.
