looks like it does have HID projectors. that crystal ball looking things on the outside of each headlight casing is the HID.

Also killboy's Evo is heavily modified...no wonder mitsu wouldn't fix it under warranty. now i'm not saying mitsu doesn't screw people over but his would be expected not to be covered.

i think you are right...but the previous owner could have done a hid swap. its quite common. OR it could have been an option he got from the dealer. next time you check out the car...turn them on and see...also you should have the head light adjustment knob/wheel in the car. It may not have the fog lights though. it has the housing but no bulbs. some evo's don't come with that.

well, the car is in Orlando...i'm all the way across the panhandle in Pensacola. i could go pick it up and drive it back if i bought it, but i'm not going out there just to look at it.

hmm...looks like there's a chance they'll come down to ~$26,500 on the white Evo IX. i think that if it does, in fact, have HID lights, I'll be hard pressed not to buy it if he'll agree to meet me halfway on the drive.

let's see just how badly this dude wants to sell. Evo IX, 10k miles, Buy It Now at $27,500. I made a bid that's just close enough to hopefully bait him into making me a second chance offer that I can't refuse if it doesn't sell.

^^tell them to snap pictures of the back of the housings, wiring, etc. easy enough to tell. shouldn't be a problem if they're serious about a sale.

haha, i don't care. i'm gonna drive the shit out of it, so it doesn't matter. it's under warranty, and only has 7k miles.

that price would be a pretty good deal on a base model (much less a sun/sound/leather package)...it's more than i want to spend (told myself i'd stay 24k or under), and i wasn't going to pay extra for the optional stuff, but that's a deal i don't think i can turn down.

I think all Evo's have Halogen projector's, I maybe wrong.

The MR's automatically have HID's and IX's with the SSL package do as well.

You can differentiate the SSL on the IX because it will have a moonroof.

All base 8's except the RS have HID's.

^^yeah, i really wanted to find a deal like that on a base IX (not RS) and spend less money, because I really don't need the sun/sound/leather...but I don't feel like I'm likely to find another deal this good no matter how long I wait.

HOLY SHIT. i just met the reserve on that SSL with a bid of $25k...called the dealer, and he offered to end the auction early for $26k.

he said they move about 150 cars per month and just try to make a few hundred bucks profit on each one...they got a great deal on this one on a trade in.

well, just got home with it. the purchase was the most miserable, overcomplicated asspain of a business deal i've ever made (no fault of the dealer...he was outstanding). to make a long story short, USAA screwed me by overnighting the check for the car to my house instead of to the dealer (and I didn't find that out until I was in Atlanta--5 hours from my house in FL). it took about 5 hours (most of it spent on the phone and driving around to various banks) and a lot of smooth talking to get the money from my bank to the dealer. it was totally ridiculous.

on a more positive note, the Evo is an absolutely fantastic, outstanding performance machine. most of my driving in it so far was on the interstate, but the few curvy sections of pavement i did get to tackle impressed me a LOT.

oh, and i made it up to 150 mph on the way home.

a White evo with dark wheels (gunmetal/black) is the hotness!

I like that coloring wheel with the right color car and agree that the contrast between a white car and them is very nice

but the fact remains that a dude driving a white car screams gayness to the nth degree, IMO

black on black for the win, ext/int that is.. not the wheels

i don't see anything wrong with a white car...i think that white Evo with the dark wheels I posted was sweet.

Mine is silver ext, though.

^5 ...that was just because we got lost. this was a huge PITA. i got to the dealer ~5 hours from my house and found that I had no means of paying for the car. I couldn't stay overnight and do it the next day because I had to be at work this morning at 0630.

^^ haha, at night, and with how many thousands of dollars worth of hundred-dollar bills?

of course, that cash was hidden right underneath my Sig P226...

which, come to think of it, could of gotten us into other trouble in DC.

Have you ever tracked any other car, particularly an STi?

^I've had an STi for about a year (2005, the nice body style) and its suspension wasn't nearly that of the MR. You could feel it in the ride. Also from any STi vs Evo track vids i've seen...the STi has more understeer than the MR.

i haven't tracked either car (yet), but from driving them both around town, i prefer the handling of the Evo, and would much prefer to take it to the track. the STi (or STI, now) has stellar power delivery and powertrain, but it's not enough to make me prefer it over the Evo (which I actually find to be uglier than the STi).
