I didnt say it had an impact on college basketball, you were just knocking our home arena, so I had to show you how much better it is than that piece called the smith center
Quote : | "It was built by donors, not tax paying citizens. This is why the big alumni sit courtside. It is also a basketball only facility with plenty of tradition." |
if im not mistaken rbc was paid for with a hotel surcharge tax, or something along those lines, its not like you witholdings paid for the rbc. Its kind of a dick move to let all the alumni sit courtside, they really dont get pumped up, I went to a unc game once and I just wasnt impressed with the atmosphere because of this. As far as tradition, of course you have more bball tradition in your building, its almost 21 years old! ours is turning 8 in october, we will build tradition that will match carolina's in the next 13 years of occupation.

costner is one, but give it some time man, our last coach who built up the program left, im sure, although a lot arent that we could have continued to build, but thats in the past, so what does it matter now, point is sid is building up the program again, and im sure that in a few years we will have some all-americans, and we will be competitive every year again with duke and carolina.

I'm pretty sure that's pretty common knowledge. Guys like Boetang and Pocius (??? he was one, right?) clearly weren't top level talent. I'm sure UNC has a few too...

I already said the RBC was a better multi-purpose facility...it's newer. Dean Dome has some problems, but as far as college basketball goes, I don't see the RBC ever listed as one of the most intimidating places to play in.
I think we can all agree that both are better than the gym that Duke plays in. 2/1/2007 5:52:10 PM |

Well the place is so new that it hasn't gained the reputation that Cameron, Phog, etc. have. The place gets loud, even for games against lower level ACC teams. When they used to show the decibel meter on the jumbotron it would show it in the 112+ for games against teams like FSU, and even hit peaks in the low 120s. I witnessed this first hand. I can only imagine how loud it is for Duke, Carolina and Wake. Last year during the Wake game, the team went on a run and took the lead after being down a good bit at half-time and after Skip Prosser called a timeout, my ears were ringing. The place holds the decibel record for loudest indoor arena, albeit during a hockey game. We have over a 1,000 more fans at basketball games. The players in the ACC that have previously been to the RBC Center (aka Reynolds v. 2.0) know how tough the place is to play. Jeremis Smith said last year after the GT game that it was as tough as Cameron.
State fans are very vocal. That's why our football atmosphere is considered one of the best in the ACC. Usually ranked right after the big 3 (CU, FSU, VT). Here's what some of the Clemson players said about Carter-Finely before the start of last years football season when they were asked about the toughest places to play in the ACC. Kenan was noticeably absent in their discussion.
Quote : | "“N.C. State is a tough place to play in. It’s not that big, but some places just have a nice atmosphere, and they do up there. Their fans get a little rowdy and a little tough, especially when they get things going. “
— C.J. Gaddis, cornerback" |
Quote : | "“Doak Campbell at Florida State, that’s pretty intimidating. They’re pretty crazy down there. You see that Indian on the horse coming out in the middle of the field and throwing that thing down, their fans go crazy.
N.C. State can be pretty intimidating, too. Their fans get into it, and every time they get a first down, they start hollering, “A Wolfpack first down!” One corner of Maryland’s stadium is pretty intimidating because it’s where all their students sit.”
— Thomas Hunter, tight end" |
I will say that UNC has done an exponentially better job in recent years at trying to make their atmosphere better. I guess that'll be the lasting legacy of Doherty. Even though he produced the 8-20 season, he got the students closer to the court with the riser seats placed at one end of the court.2/1/2007 9:26:51 PM |

^dude....you know they took away close to 700 student seats this year. the odds of students getting tickets is ridiculous, not even due to them being good.
every one of my friends that goes to UNC absolutely hates their alumni and board of directors cuz none of them get tickets now to games.
the only sectiosn they have are behind one goal, a band section, 1 section behind opposite goal, and then scattered up top. 2/1/2007 9:36:58 PM |

if we control tempo and don't let them play their 10 second possession game we won't get blown out by 30+
but when we let those horses loose and they get down the court its over... its a perfect matchup for them bc we have no depth and get tired easily and they play faasstt
plz control tempo. plz 2/2/2007 12:01:22 AM |

But there is always a surprise waiting with college basketball that you never would have thought of. Hopefully we will have that Sidney factor working for us.
