You know, I'm not trying to put all the emphasis on depression here, but it can be really hard for people to come to terms with it on their own. And if you don't find the right help at the right time, it just gets harder.

I knew Frank. I always thought he was an alright guy. Damn.

I found a picture of me in his photoalbum. He was on the ballroom dance team. He put a lot into it.

p.s: I think he posted 6 times that one day, but that's only because we talked about it on the phone, You know, not some bullshit on tww, where we pretend that we're meriting others oral sex with our words.

What is wrong with you? Have you no sense of decency at all?

I'm not trying to be special, I'm trying to not think about what my friend just did. If he "tried and helped anyone in a situation", why didn't he help himself? I feel awful and conflicted. You aren't helping.

same here. I never knew the guy personally, and never talked to him privately on TWW even. Still, I get really sad when I hear of someone so young dying. Not only do I feel sorry for him, but his family and close friends.

I've lost some close relatives who were young, and even a few years ago a very close friend of mine committed suicide. When I heard the news of his death, I don't think I've ever felt so sick or confused in my entire life, and wouldn't wish these feelings on anyone.

It's times like this that I really wish I could faithfully believe that there is a Heaven so that I could say I wish he is in a better place now.

^Why though? If he was an atheist and committed suicide, then almost no religion would say he would be in heaven. He would be in hell. Its almost better to just hope that he's in purgatory or in nonexistence. Thats what he believed from what I'm reading?

"1:00pm: So long, and thanks for all the fish

The past 14 months have been a more or less continuous withering away of my connections to my own life. At this point, I'm not sure of my own sanity anymore. I could probably work my way through it all (patience, eh?), but I just don't have any good reasons (or excuses?) to bother. I don't feel like I'd be particularly missed, and I don't feel like anything in particular matters anyway. I'm replaceable.

Beyond that, I could write a long and rambling note, boring some to tears and making some feel horrible, but...fuck it, you know? This is for myself, not some kind of statement.

I'm looking at my camera, and I can't help but think of it as a symbol of my own state. So much optimism a few years ago, now it's dinged and battered and doesn't even power on right a lot of the time. It can still capture beauty, now and then, but it's harder than it should be, and sometimes missed altogether because the camera can't do it anymore.

I've opened up my Photobucket. There's a lot of random in there, but just about every picture I've ever taken (and a bunch that I saved) that I thought was worth anything will be in there, somewhere. Access password is "cheshirecat". "

if i had read an entry like that from a friend, i surely would have called them up to see what was going on.

look at the number of dead giveaways:

- the title: So long
- past 14 months have been hell
- i could work through it all, but why bother
- i won't be missed
- i am replaceable
- the whole camera paragraph
- releasing password to photogallery

it is pretty obvious what he was planning on doing.

i am not trying to be a jerk, but who read this entry by him before he killed himself.

and of those who read it, how many called him up for clarification/sympathy?

btw, how did he kill himself? with a gun?

yes, bridget, that is his suicide note, but it is not a traditional one. he doesn't say he is going to kill himself.

anyway, so who read it and who called him up because of that entry in LJ?

btw, did he kill himself with a CZ-82?

because he took that gun home just 2 days before. killing himself.

he posted the note not long before he did it...wasn't like it sat around for days for all his friends (with live cell phone feeds to Frank's new LJ posts, of course) to do nothing about it.

I've had the displeasure of reading a couple other suicide notes, and neither of them said explicitly what was going to happen, either, so the idea that there's some "traditional" form where one writes, "Goodbye Mum & Dad, I'm off to jump a bridge" is ridiculous.

i would say my curiosity is a natural response to something like this that any alive and breathing human being would probably have.

also, i don't see how:

- if anybody reached him on the phone
- what time he offed himself
- and if he used a particular gun

are gruesome details.

not like i am asking how many feet his blood spurted when he shot himself.

Suicide isn't the only bad thing to come from guns. But if you're going to go that route...its a lot easier to shoot yourself with a gun then slit your wrists or take a bunch of pills. I'm taking a guess, but I think the statistics on suicide would show that shooting oneself is the most common method. It's quick and relatively painless.

I was right...52% of suicides from firearms. I wonder how many wouldn't have done it if the gun wasn't available???

I imagine they'd use the next easiest method.

it's not like suicide began when guns were invented.

This kid was a selfish prick and killed himself to solve his problems, and now the end result is that all of his friend and family are going to be fucked up about it.

I sympathize with the people who cared about him, but he's a bastard for doing this to them.

^^somewhat less, assuredly... but who is to say what is right? the person made a choice... a choice they knew that they would not be able to change their mind about. why should everyone pay and sacrifice priviliges for the actions of a few people who cant find enough meaning in their lives to want to keep on?

You might as well have been, it's horrible logic.

you get rid of guns, and some other method will be attributable to the majority of suicides.

Are you gonna want to ban rope next?

Noooo....really??? You completely get rid of one majority and another method becomes a majority??? That can't be right....

If you re-read my post(s), you'll see that I just said that not having firearms would probably prevent a decent number of suicides. Its the easiest way out. I am sure that if some people didn't have access to a gun, they might not go through with it. Slitting your wrists and watching yourself bleed to death requires a lot more balls than pulling a trigger and not feeling anything.

If banning firearms could save thousands of lives a year just by people not committing suicide...then I think it would be worth it. Not to mention the million other things it would help. But hey...shooting deer, skeet, and "feeling safe" is worth it....
