What's the problem here?

You posted quotes from an article. I posted quotes from the same article.

But, for some reason, you said, "Duh."

You post some quotes. I post others. Where's the "duh"?

^^ Look, I know when you look in the mirror, there's a lot of self-loathing--you've admitted as much on TWW. But don't take it out on me. I mean, that gallon of ice cream is not going to eat itself--better dig in.

Because my weight really is an issue here.

I just can't stop thinking about lobster ravioli and filet mignon right now!

"iran has a major interest in the outcome of iraq, its silly to think that they wont be involved . . . now many analysts are suggesting that this bomb making industry has moved to iraq as it does not require sophisticated machining capabilities to produce these weapons. even if these factions are still supplying weapons to iraq there is no evidence to suggest that the iranian government is participating in this, complacent, nor is there even any evidence to suggest that they know about it "
The particular weapons in question, EFPs, require a decent amount of equipment and skill to make effectively which is probably coming from Iran. I think it is also safe to say that the Iranian government, which is notorious for tracking down dissidents, has a pretty good idea of what is going on at the Iranian - Iraqi border and is at least turning a blind eye to this.

Quote :
"As far as the Iranian government being the source of all this...I don't know. It definitely seems likely considering that's what countries do. That's what we do. That's what almost everyone does. Do I think we should do anything about it? We do not want to fight Iran, but once we have proof, we pretty much fucking have to. Fuck Bush and fuck this fucking mess."
Absolutely. The power in the Middle East has traditionally been in Saudi Arabia's hands both from an Islamic perspective (Mecca and Medina) and an economic perspective (Oil). Iran has been itching to take this leadership position over for years, but being a) Shiite and b) Persian, they've been treated as the shady neighbor next door. Were they to control Iraq through a friendly or shadow Shiite regime they would have access to disputed oil fields in Kurdistan which would significantly increase their OPEC bargaining power. Likewise, the acquisition of a nuclear weapon would augment their claim to be the regional superpower.

Make no mistake; Iran is a large and growing problem which I believe the Bush administration had intended to resolve from the start. The likelihood of a ground war however is slim to none. Even if Bush wants to go, we simply cannot afford it manpower wise, which is partly why President Ahmadinejad is making so much noise, because he does not fear real retribution. The most we can / will do is use standoff weapons to attempt to destroy known targets and hope that terminates the situation.

jane's intelligence review (im assuming you have heard of jane's) says that the Iraqi Shi'ites have indeed manufactured both the components for EFPs and the complete EFPs. it says that the kind of tools required to fabricate EFPs can easily be found in Iraqi metalworking shops and garages

No, I don't doubt Janes but having spent a year in Iraq dealing with this shit, I know what I'm talking about. Yes EFPs are fairly easy to make and you can find the basic information on how on the internet, but it takes a fair amount of tweaking to get them right and Joe Metalshop probably does not have that expereince.

From the Telegraph last year: http://tinyurl.com/mxaor
Quote :
"British Government scientists have already established that the mines are precision-made weapons thought to have been turned on a lathe by craftsmen trained in the manufacture of munitions."

Quote :
"Alireza Jafarzadeh, a former spokesman for the NCRI who in 2002 revealed the existence of two Iranian nuclear facilities at Natanz and Arak, said the devices were smuggled to Iraq via Iran's Shalamcheh border region.

"These sites are close to a military site, known as Lavizan 2, that is now being used for Iran's nuclear programme. It shows there is a high level of co-ordination by the Iranian regime, which wants to destabilise Iraq to make way for an Islamic Republic.

"This is not a ragtag workshop in some remote area. These sites are within an area that is one of the most sanitised parts of Teheran which is controlled by the Iranian Defence Ministry.""

and from a few days ago: http://tinyurl.com/2kgf2h
Quote :
"The British Army has long believed that Iranian-supplied technology has been used in the construction of roadside bombs. America's latest allegations against Iran came as the Teheran regime delivered mixed messages about the future of its nuclear programme."

This whole debate is further complicated by most people's lack of understanding of the difference between shaped charges, platter charges, and EFPs which I won't go into here. I'm not saying this is justification for war, but just because the words come from a liars mouth, don't make them untrue.
