you posted some wikipedia entries of shit i already knew
why dont you define "true hip hop" if you say it died in the early 80s?
i mean i could say "true hip hop" died in the early 70s as soon as the first emcee came along since the original hip hop was kool herc spinning records at block parties in the bronx
course i would consider there to be plenty of true hip hop that has come out in the last year or two
Quote : | "and now that you're picking apart one little sentence it's obvious you have nothing to say" |
dont blame me for knowing more about hip hop than the unspecific wikipedia shit you quoted
Quote : | "the hip hop genre transformed into that modern gangster rap stuff" |
i would say 'party music' (sugarhill) --> 'social commentary of inequality' (gmf+f5)--> 'positive rap' (queen latifah) --> 'gangsta shit' (nwa) and 'militant social commentary' (pe) --> 'golden era/creative crime' (wu/bcc) --> 'materialistic' (big tymers)
course thats crass and is simply a generalization of hip-pop over the years...and takes into account nothing into account about music thats NOT radio friendly

I'd like to see them take on Donald Brashear or Georges Laranque. Size actually hurts you in a hockey fight.
[qutoe]but hockey on the other hand...that sure is a popular sport! their ratings must even be higher than the nfl!

1) i'm pretty sure ben wallace and shaq can't skate 2) fighting is allowed in hockey because it is a physical sport, it is needed so that the other team doesn't take cheap shots at your stars...basketball has fouls to protect their players 3) someone said the ottawa goalie lost this fight, i now want to fight you, for the sake of this university and mankind 2/23/2007 6:16:28 PM |

Making that statement shows how much of a flagrant douche you are. You say this as if you have some sort of basis for claiming that hockey players would be fighting in the stands. Im pretty sure they would not however, If you watch hockey fights most of them have a mutual agreement beforehand, and once someone hits the ice, its over; they have respect for each other, and Im fairly certain most not all, of the hockey fights have not been hate fueled enough to take it into the stands.
Im sick and tired of you playing the race card and shit everytime this argument comes up, which seems to be once a month. IT HAS NOTHING TO FUCKING DO WITH RACE YOU DUMB PIECE OF SHIT. People like you are what make me lose faith in humanity2/23/2007 6:43:05 PM |

well considering i claimed the fans would be running onto the ice, and didnt make any mention of the players going into the stands, it looks like YOU are the flagrant douche since your whole argument was based on something you didnt understand in the first place
Quote : | "If you watch hockey fights most of them have a mutual agreement beforehand" |
if you watch nba games, most of them dont have any fights or conflicts at all
its also rather humorous that 2 years after the artest incident (+/-) the fans still seem to get a free pass for their behavior

its great that you lose faith in humanity based on your own misinterpretation of a phrase

its just the double standard that gets annoying.
Its strange to hear a coach after a game praising his players for fighting, saying he doesn't give a shit if they lose 10 to 1, as long as they got back at them...
Now you tell me, is that the competitive nature of the sport or somebody acting as a "thug"? 2/23/2007 10:48:31 PM |

The logic being used in this thread to legitimize fighting "as a part of a sport" is sad.
Look, fighting happens. But its not a part of any sport.
Its a result of competition and adrenaline. Anytime you get a bunch of people in a field/court/rink in a heated game with high stakes, tempers may get lost and athletes may resort to playing dirty. Anytime someone gets a cheap shot or is flagrantly fouled, a natural reaction may be to fight. I'm not saying its right. It just happens.
Fighting happens occasionally in all sorts of sports. Hockey, football, basketball sometimes, even baseball. I don't think NBA players are thugs because of a lapse in judgement in ONE game. I don't think Nolan Ryan and Robin Ventura are thugs. Nor do I think NHL players are thugs. Fighting doesn't happen all that much and has been sensationalized. 2/26/2007 10:47:15 AM |

the difference here is the fan brought the fight to the player, on the playing surface
the pacers incident, THEY brought the fight to the fan in the stands
and they should be better than that
^ to answer the question, yes they do deserve it, but if i remember correctly there were other fans there that didn't that wound up in the middle of a melee. it doesn't really matter anyway because there are always isolated incidences. the players involved there got punished, the fans that could be identified got punished and everybody moved on. that level of shit hasn't happened before or since that i know of...

the pacers incident started when a fan threw the ass end of his beer at artest (who was lying on the scorers table) and it happened to hit him in the face...so I would say the fan brought the fight to the player
let alone there were other fans who just came out on the court like the guy jermaine oneal dropped (on the court)
the 2 incidents are very similar actually...just one gets blown out of proportion because its overpaid thugs, the other "who cares, its hockey"2/26/2007 12:01:28 PM |
HockeyRoman All American 11811 Posts user info edit post |
If you want to cite an actual hockey fight with fans then the Ty Domi thing was not it considering Domi really only restrained the guy as opposed to fighting him. Here is a real hockey player vs. fan moment.
Quote : | "In an infamous December 26, 1979 incident at Madison Square Garden, during a post-game scrum, a New York Rangers fan stole Stan Jonathan's stick and and hit him with it. [Terry] O'Reilly charged into the stands, and his teammates followed when other fans tried to intervene. He was suspended eight games for his part in the brawl." | (this came from wiki) There is video of this around somewhere. Funny as hell to see. Granted this was more old school hockey but validates that hockey players do indeed fight fans.
