i can lay it in 1 handed and grab the rim at the end but alot of people don't consider that a real dunk because of how the ball leaves my hand at the rim

I also went to the Red & White game, and I got a feeling then that McCauley would be a beast. That was pretty right on. Degand also looked very good, I wish he was eligible when Ferguson was.

anyone know of the possibilities of putting "State" on our jerseys and "Pack" on the shorts?

As long as there's no writing on their butts, it's ok with me. It would be really cool to have just STATE on the jerseys though.

I doubt we'd put plain old STATE on our jerseys anymore. Lee Fowler miss an opportunity to brand the NC State name? Never! Though Pack on the shorts would be cool

Let's just hope 'Ol Jeb doesn't start selling ad space on the jerseys

"Here are a few suggestions (some legit; some tongue-in-cheek) of how Lowe can continue to ride that momentum and solidify State’s standing in the Triangle, the ACC and the nation.

1. Put "State" on the front of the jerseys (even if just for home games). This seems like such a trivial thing, but it’s a point of pride for so many Pack fans. (And if Michigan State can do it, why not N.C. State?)

2. Put "Pack" across the bottom of the shorts. Probably not nearly as important as putting “State” on the jerseys, but a number of fans would love to see this. It too would serve as a nice link to the program’s storied past. (Just don’t go back to honor those horrid geometrically-offensive shorts from the Todd Fuller era.)

3. Install the noise meter at the RBC Center. And we’re talking the real one, not some phony Jumbotron thing. (OK, OK: I know the “real” meter was controlled by someone along the court at Reynolds, but still …)

4. Make the introductions more old-school. Not exactly sure how you do this or if the players would go for it, but nix the NBA-style music and lights. Make it simple and classic.

5. Revamp the Heritage Game. With all due respect to the Savannah States, Appalachian States and N.C. A&Ts of the world, this should be against a major program. Lowe was oh-so-subtle in his praise and adoration of Reynolds Coliseum and her atmosphere following the NIT win over Marist, and Grant told bemused reporters following the game that State should play Duke and Carolina there. “I’m serious,” he said.

Romantically, that sounds awesome. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make much sense to play Duke and UNC at Reynolds in front of a loud and rabid 9,000 fans only to play Florida State and Georgia Tech at the RBC Center in front of 12,000 fans in what sounds like a library. (What kind of home court advantage is that?) If anything, make the Heritage Game a conference game or do what’s necessary to schedule a regional power like Tennessee, Kentucky or West Virginia.

6. Recruit, recruit, recruit. So far, so good for Lowe.

7. Beat Carolina ... and, if it’s not too much trouble, Duke. Think this one’s not important? Just ask Mike O’Cain and Chuck Amato.

As a kid, I would state that if NCSU went 2-25 with both wins being over UNC, I’d be pleased with the Pack’s season. But aside from bragging rights, there is some logic in simply wanting to be competitive with the Heels. (And by competitive I mean splitting on a regular basis with some sweeps every couple of years or so.)

Carolina has long been the standard-bearer for consistency in ACC hoops. You compete with them (and Duke, for that matter) and the rest will fall into place. Former State football coach Chuck Amato understood that to raise the level of your program you have to be able to compete and beat the top team in the conference. In his case it was Florida State, which he did. Unfortunately, it was losing to North Carolina that did him in.

One of Sendek’s major flaws was his insistence that the Carolina game was “just another game” and should be treated as such. Mathematically he was right. A win over the Heels didn’t count as two; a loss didn’t count as two; a win over UNC was just as important in the conference race as a win over Clemson. But at the same time, it’s not just another game. It’s THE game. Lowe understands this. He won over a number of fans just by acknowledging that, No, this isn’t just a regular game. And it’s not just bragging rights on the line. It’s pride. And honor. And tradition.

Which brings us to ….

8. Bust out a plaid jacket sometime, coach. Lowe was recruited by and did play one season for Norm Sloan. Just imagine how nuts the fans would go if, in late-January, Lowe walked out from behind the stands in a stuffy Reynolds Coliseum sporting a loud, plaid jacket as the Pack took the floor against Bruce Pearl and his equally loud Tennessee orange jacket.

The noise meter would definitely hit red.

i honestly half expected a plaid jacket in reynolds. i didn't think it was quite red coat worthy, but a plaid would've been throwback and gone along w/ the whole reynolds theme. sigh, what could've been.

it's great to honor traditions and appreciate our history, but we need to quit wallowing in the past. let's move forward. not everything about today's program needs to mimic 1974 or 1983. how about establish some of our own traditions? how about owning a chapter that's entirely our own?

Or how about we focus on the starting fucking five.

Statefans says that Grant won't start next year. That is laughable. Not only is he our only senior, but he's also our second leading scorer, second in rebounds, etc. Sure, he makes us all squirm when he gets the ball, but there's no way he won't start next year.

... and substitution predictions that Gott will go with... I know even Mark doesn't know yet cause he hasn't seen Abu, the Martins, Lacey, or Brickhouse in action but... just for fun

PG - Lewis
G - Lacey
G - Turner
F - Washington
F/C- Anya

^THAT, I would think would be the beginning of the season... subbing in Freeman for Washington, Lee or whoever. Maybe Barber will start if he shows up very strong in the first couple game. We'll play a small lineup. Possibilities will be enormous. Wallace has even proved to be a great 8th/9th man next year AND if Gott wants to go DEEP like Roy then Jevoni could buy a minute or two. This is all if scholarships and players hold up too of course.

Anya needs to have a body-changing offseasion a la Rich Howell from 2011/2012 to 2012/2013. Also just can't see Cat not starting next year, he's young - but Lewis is SUCH a defensive liability... and who knows?!? TJ might stay to bring one home for us next year

Otherwise, Im on board with that.

Hasn't gott seen Lacey for a year now? He's at practice every day right?

Wait what? Jevoni is gone, and who replaces Anya at 5 when he's tired? You can't play Washington and Anya at the same time for very long, unless you really think a player rated worse than either of them (Abu) will somehow be better than them as a freshman

Need another big man bad who can pound with the heavys. I think freeman can get the job done as backup to Anya, and Washington should be ready to play 30+ minutes with Abu getting some reps as needed.

As for Barber, that kid was lighting it up in pre-game as a recruit, hit like 11 in a row from 3 just out there horsing around. I wonder if his work in the weight room has thrown off his shot a bit during this season. If so, and he can get it back with more shot work in the offseason, he would start with lacey, and turner at 3.

What I expect the starting 5 will be, assuming only Warren leaves and no one transfers:

G: Barber
G: Dez
F: Turner
F: Washington
F: Freeman

Subs for each will be:
G: Lewis
G: Lacey
F: Martin
F: Abu
F: Anya

Could see some changes based on offseason work and the new guys being "as good as advertised", but would be surprised to see Abu start over any of our 3 current big men to start the season. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Lewis or Lacey start if Dez or Barber don't impress in the offseason.

^^not sure how you can predict a freshman to start over rising sophomores, unless the sophomores just aren't good. and anya, washington and freeman are all good. so i seriously doubt abu will start. at least not at the beginning of the season.

^freshmen frequently improve. although i think lewis will start over him. i'd think they'd both average about 20 mpg and be used depending on the game situation.

but yes, they should both play significant roles next season. i would love for barber to actually learn how to shoot and for gott to play them both at the same time.

PG - Lewis
SG - Lacey
SF - Turner
PF - Washington
C - Anya

at 18:00 of every game the line up will be

PG - Lewis
SG - Lacey
SF - Turner
F - Abu
F - Freeman

because that back court will be a sieve

Not saying I don't agree with you, but Anya was rated by Scout, Rivals, & ESPN in 50s/60s for his class while Washington was in the 90s. Abu is anywhere from 30-50 depending on the service. Like the three freshmen frontcourt players, Abu brings something different to the table as well; he's supposedly a much more explosive scorer with a decent jump shot as well. I'm not expecting him to start off the bat, but I wouldn't be shocked if he eventually earns it, depending on how much the other three improve their offense.

I'm basing my Abu guess on the talk that he's pretty good offensively. Hopefully Freeman and company will improve on that in the offseason though.

One thing I liked about Lewis this season is that we rarely fell into a big hole early with him starting, except for the Clemson game (which wasn't even that bad). I feel like that happened a lot more often when Cat was starting since he didn't manage the offense as well and the rest of the team seemed to panic more when shots weren't falling and he was in.

As someone pointed out on PP, Cat did a lot better after he only got 4 mins in that VT game

Quote :
"Four games since VT
11 assist, only 2 turnovers and shot over 60 percent(taking a lot less bad ones). It has been very much apparent that Cat played these past four games 'under control' a lot more than during mid season."

Unless Anya gets himself in much better shape, I think this is what you'll see:

Pg - Lewis
Sg- Lacey
Sf- turner
Pf- Abu
C- Washington

PG - Lewis - Barber
SG- Lacey - Lee
SF- Turner - Martin/Martin
PF- Abu - Freeman
C- Washington - Anya

Think that's what we'll see as well. Only other person I see sneaking into the lineup is Anya at Center if he can lose some substantial weight in the offseason - guy can be a game changer with his size and arm span.

Washington/Anya/Freeman I feel like will all work to improve as adding Abu into the mix is going to decrease one of their minutes pretty substantially next year. I haven't seen a ton about the Martins, but from what I've seen they'll be 4 year players who can do a lot of different things on the court and should provide quality depth next season. Lee can spell Lacey at the 2 and could be used as a defensive specialist type guy as we've seen his what his offensive 'contributions' look like this season. No idea what exactly is going to shake out at the PG spot.

yeah, it's not like 9 guys each got decent minutes most of this season.

also, we'll have 11 scholarship players next year, barring transfer and assuming TJ leaves.
