ah, well then have fun. my roommate went to the one last october. he offered me a ticket for free if i would go with him but i declined because some of the guys he was going with were real assholes. he said the lines were not as long as he thought, but that he still never ended up getting that much beer.

sounds like VIP's the way to go.

rasberry and blueberry ales were good.

VIP i think is over-rated...everyone told me how they were so worth it b/c you get a private bathroom and private sitting area.

my only problem was i was drinking the entire time so i never sat down and how clean does a porta potty have to be to go piss in it? i think they were well maintained between sessions and were clean (except 1 grody one). i thought that the beer festival was awesome and i enjoyed trying all of the different beers

yeah, i was there for the beer. i was walking around the whole time. a private sitting area would have been worthless.

and i went to pee twice. 30 bucks for a cleaner port-a-potty to use twice is definitely not worth it.

^^the cherry ale, at least the one I assume everyone is talking about, is New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red, and has always been a fave of mine...have some of that and their Raspberry Tart in the fridge. You'll either have to go to Wisco or get somebody to ship it to you.

biggest surprise was Capital City from Arlington, VA...found out I like Hideaway bbq, too

was really nice being able to take my time over the course of the day (56 beers in all with numerous refills of the great ones, though a few of those samples met the trash can)

pouring beer for an hour in the afternoon was pretty fun

I can't remember which ones I liked and didn't like. I drank to much. I do remember trying the 14% one and remember thinking it tasted like cough syrup

^^^ I seem to remember trying two cherry ales, unless I am confusing the first one with something else I tried. That one was the second of the two, and the one I liked less (though I still really liked it). I haven't been able to figure out what the other one was yet, though. It'll just take some time going through the list, I guess.

on a maybe 25% related note, the red oak brewery on 40 said they have plans to start bottling that shit. hope it doesn't change the taste too much

I volunteered for both sessions... in all spent 13+ hours there yesterday. I was pouring Woodchuck Cider for the second session. Second session people were D-RUNK... lol.

P.S. Belgium Style Cherry Sour Ale FTW!

Beer Fest was great! The Chocolate Stout was one of my favorites, and I liked one of the blueberries, and some of the honey porters. Unfortunately I missed the cherry one---will have to try that one next year.

such a damn shame they did this, the beach music festival, the unc state baseball game, the hank williams and skynard concert all on the same day....wish each could have had its own day.

All the fruity beers were a bit too much for me, esp. after I had gone through every booth in the other tent before visiting there.

As usual, loved the brooklyn brewery's belgian style, as well as a franziskanner on a warm day. The band out there (guta) was real good too.

i had a lot of good beers, but the one that stood out was actually the worst beer i tried that night.

Everything I've ever had from dogfish head has been golden, but their immort tasted like chloraseptic. it was fucking nasty. i poured that shit out.

So how would you go about getting ahold of the Cherry beer? I know they dont sell it around here, only in Wisconsin; but is there a company somewhere out there that will buy beer for you and ship it to you? A friend of mine found one such company out of the UK... but shipping for just one beer would be $178.

Anyone know of a continental US company that will ship that beer? I've looked but no luck so far..

if it really is the wisconsin belgian red you are talking about, the one in the wine-size bottle dipped in red wax, you're gonna have to go to wisco or make a friend up there

some people might be talking about the boon kriek, or maybe another kriek there I didn't try, which is available locally...the wisco beer is sweeter and tastes kinda like cherry pie filling, except better
