if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?

imus said this LAST WEDNESDAY

it wasnt even a news story until a couple days later...i dont know imus, i think just based on this one racist remark that he is an idiot...but i also think they (most notably sharpton) blew this out of proportion so many thousands of times over

let's see how the reverend apologizes for helping to ruin the lives of the duke lacrosse players

Sharpton very well might be against the rappers/gangstas too but he doesnt call for labels to drop them. He doesnt haul them on the radio. He doesnt ask for boycotts.

He is a hypocritical attention whore monger.

That's like saying we shouldn't arrest peopel for speeding, since there are other people selling drugs/murdering/whatever.

Retard? Nice comeback DOUCHE BAG. I think you should be fired for your insensitive comments towards the mentally handicapped.

After that, try to explain why he hasnt done this in the rap world? This may shock you, but the rap culture is a lot more denegrating to black people than the irrelevent Don Imus.

i said it before and i'll say it again

sharpton is like a drug dealer who preaches to people that drugs are bad while selling them at the same time

imus' comments upset blacks, i'm sure...but they upset blacks after they heard them...like "hey did you hear what imus said about us blacks?" and then "who the hell is imus" and then "here listen!"

"how dare that white man say that!"

all the while ignoring the 'bitches aint shit but hoes and tricks' type mentality thats eating up parts of their society from within

^^ If Al Sharpton never existed, and this happened, this would still be news.

If at least 1 black person listens to his show, they are going to be upset about it, and call for the guy to at least get in some kind of trouble for it with his boss.

Nationally known celebrities making racist comments is going to make the news.

I don't think Sharpton is ignoring the problems with hip-hop culture. In fact, most black leaders and blacks in general speak negatively of those types of things, but it's the media and media companies that promote it (because it makes money). Not disproportionately so, but you have to keep in mind that a majority of the record sales of that type of music is still to white patrons.

In any case, black music isn't keeping blacks down, it's a product of their situation. It's the effect, not the cause.

^^but the point was, i heard about it briefly on maybe Thursday

it wasnt the media circus it is for a few days

^i agree i just think it got blown way out of proportion...also someone like sharpton is a MASSIVE hypocrite...for example he called the three duke lacrosse players "rapists" and was very instrumental in ruining the lives of three college kids, probably because they were rich and white

Quote :

i agree...and Imus isnt keeping blacks down either...but if hearing a couple words or phrases is enough to make you lose control and flip the fuck out, then you are weakminded as shit...oh no some dumbass old white dude made an ignorant statement...i guess i can use that as an excuse for something now

^ He and many other contributed. He was, by no means, the sole progenitor or even enabler of their problems.

It was mostly a dumb bitch cunt that screwed them over, and a corrupt lawyer. Sharpton, and MANY others, screwed up by jumping on the anti-Duke bandwagon.

the majority of rap sales do go to whites

theres still an inherent pride thing that helps blacks hold themselves down though...on some "ah look at that fuckin bookworm nigga...ahaha that nigga reading haha fuck that uncle tom nigga"

when there are social peer pressures that look down on people for trying to improve, theres a lot more going on that one dumbass talk show hosts' dumb remarks

i love hip hop and everything...but in between a few of the uplifting tracks there are usually some tracks that go back to the street grind type hustle lifestyle that they came from

plus that element isnt even about rap...its music or pop culture...name one singer (any musical genre) whose best work is when they're in a healthy relationship and not when they're heartbroken from some past relationship

aka positivity music doesnt really sell

White and black executives and producers are making it. Haven't you ever watched "Fade to Black" (I bet not), Jay-z goes to some white guys to produce his beats for him (he's low on the list of offenders, but other artists across the board do the same).

Also, this country is about 70% white, you don't think that the majority of the sales are going to white people? 90% of the white people I know listen to hip-hop, and I hang out with a lot of preppy white people.

Quote :
"you dont think black rappers have a negative influence on the perception of black people across the world? please. i cant even continue to have this conversation with you.

They only have a negative perception to white people who don't listen to that kind of music. I admit, I listen to the occasional rap song, but not because I like the lyrics or anything, they just occasionally have good rhythms.

The first thing you have to realize is that hip-hop wasn't always as commercial and negative as it is nowadays, there's a long, specific history that evolved it to this point, that mostly has to do with $$$. Secondly, the dynamics of how music relates to society are very complex, and it's not as simple as "black music is bad."

thats completely false

at least you admitted you only listen to "the occasional rap song"

i think SOME of the rap that HAPPENS to talk about shooting people and disrespecting women, etc that gets out makes them look bad to any race/creed people

i listen to plenty of hiphop but there are some artists who are 'gangsta' and some who have their heads screwed into more of a positive way of life...it might not always sell and you might hardly hear it on mainstream radio...but everybody knows every group of people has some bad apples, good apples, etc

From what i've read elsewhere, Imus HAS been saying borderline racist stuff for a while, he's suppose to be a shock jock.

I'm not really trying to defend Sharpton, but I don't think he deserves to be especially hated, like some people in this thread are doing. You can point to many other celebrities, the U2 guy, John Travolta, the Dixie Chicks, and George Clooney, who have jumped on retard band wagons before, sharpton is not too much different. His main problem is that he is often over zealous, but compared to the overly stiff stature of most of our politicians, this is sometimes refreshing.

^ Fine i'll accept that, but I would also add that that type of negative rap song isn't as pervasive as people, especially white people, think.

Two interesting comments that tie into my two theories on Why Now It's Time to Get Rid of Imus...

Quote :
"Al Sharpton: 'It is our feeling that this is only the beginning. We must have a broad discussion on what is permitted and not permitted in terms the airwaves' "

Quote :
"Hillary Clinton: "I've never wanted to go on his show and I certainly don't ever intend to go on his show, and I felt that way before his latest outrageous, hateful, hurtful comments.""

Perhaps Hillary has combined forces with the liberals who want to get rid of talk radio.

some of the more ridiculous quotes:

Quote :
""I've got two young daughters who I hope will be athletes. And, you know, the notion that somehow they would be degraded and insulted, and that that would pass as humor, and that NBC would be running that over the public airwaves I think is atrocious," he said.
"

-Barack Obama

Quote :
"On Wednesday, a CBS board member, Bruce Gordon, called for Imus to be fired from WFAN.

"His remarks are so significant that I believe that the right outcome is for him to be terminated," said Gordon, former president of the NAACP."

Quote :
"The head coach of the Rutgers women's basketball team, Vivian Stringer, told "The Situation Room" Wednesday that she was "stunned" and "surprised" by MSNBC's move.

"I think that it's probably a victory for the people," said Stringer, who said she was "proud" of corporate executives who "understand that we can do better.""

wow

Quote :
""If CBS follows suit as NBC has done, it gives a chilling message to those that will use the public airwaves in a way that is gender-biased and race-biased," Sharpton told "The Situation Room."

He also said he intends to complain to the Federal Communications Commission about the matter.

"Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," he said Sunday. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this." "

ok Al

Quote :
"Imus "has stolen a moment of pure grace from us," the captain of the Rutgers women's basketball team, Essence Carson, said."

holy shit! AHAHA

Quote :
"Other players echoed Carson's reaction, saying Imus' insulting words and the resulting controversy overshadowed their achievements."

DONT HOLD A FUCKING PRESS CONFERENCE TO KEEP BRINGING IT UP

Quote :
"Stringer and Rutgers players are scheduled to appear Thursday on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

"

jesus christ

Quote :
""I would like to speak to him personally and ... ask him, after you've met me personally, do you still feel in this category that I'm still a 'ho' as a woman and as a black, African-American woman at that?" said Kia Vaughn, a sophomore center."
