i'm sorry, but when i see a completely limp body being carried by four people, it's hard not to think the person is dead
and now cnn is showing it too
in summary: you can show dead people but video games caused the violence 4/16/2007 2:43:08 PM |

Yeah, I'd be quite upset if I were a family member and had to see that on the front page of a major news website, knowing full well that millions of people would come to know your son as "that dead corpse on anynewssite.com." 4/16/2007 2:46:35 PM |

You really can't see the face of the person they are carrying. It could have been the shooter or someone they were trying to get to safety that was already injured! 4/16/2007 2:53:39 PM |

If the person is dead, they'd not move the body. Why would you move a dead body away from a crime scene? 4/16/2007 2:55:26 PM |

^exactly...that is why I think it would have to be someone who was injured and not dead! One of the many reasons. All of us have seen way worse stuff on TV so why are you all upset over this picture. Makes no sense to me! 4/16/2007 2:58:32 PM |

Yea cuz I am sure you have never typed a typo before And just because you think your point is valid other people prolly find their points valid too! And if that was my child that the police were carrying out of harms way after they were already wounded...more power to them! 4/16/2007 3:08:38 PM |

jesus christ - it's not a question about the cops carrying him out...it's the need (well, the lack of a need) to actually show shit like that. granted it's not as infuriating to me as the video cnn posted a while back of a sniper taking out us troops (cut away just after the crack of the rifle).
my point is there is no need to show that shit. it does not further the story. it's like the bus crash in atlanta last month. the police moved the bodies under the overpass to hide them from sight, yet you could actually see helicopters jockeying for position to get their money shot of the bodies covered by tarps. it's just not needed.
yet the media shows shit like this, but then will most likely go on to speculate if violent video games exposed this kid to shit that made him do it, oblivious to the fact that they are exposing people to real violence. if the media chooses not to show people running on the field at sporting events (presumably to discourage such coverage) why should they feel any less obligated to turn a blind camera to the dead and wounded?

well i agree the media are money and ratings hungry pieces of shit
i just think if they really wanted a bad picture they couldve gotten one of a body that was obviously dead and very very bloody...or perhaps one of the classrooms that had been shot up
and while i agree sensationalism is a problem in the media, and i havent been watching any news outlets to day to hear all their speculations about video games, etc, i dont have as much of a problem with them showing the aforementioned picture when the story that goes along with the picture is essentially "worst school shooting in US history" 4/16/2007 3:21:27 PM |

I so don't understand what is so fucking bad with this picture. You see worse shit in movies, video games and not to mention your everyday news shit on TV. Granted video games and movies aren't reality. It still isn't that bad of a picture. I don't think it is a dead person not that it even matters. But more than likely if someone is dead in a situation like this...you aren't going to move them. You are going to leave them for the time being until the situation is safe and worry more about getting injured and unharmed people out of harm's way. If the person was injured you would obviously move them to get them out of any future harm that may come if the shooter wasn't down yet. They would leave the dead in place to document everything so that they can put some sort of timeline in order to make more sense out of the situation...like in Columbine. They would also take note of where they found injured people so that it too can be document in the files. Also it really wouldn't be up to 4 uniformed officers to move the body. The crime scene team would be doing that as well as the coroner once the scene was deemed secure. 4/16/2007 3:43:13 PM |

a guy from PackPride wrote this
Quote : | "From a friend who is a current Va Tech student:
"A man who works in my dad's office - one of his best friends is a paramedic in Roanoke. That guy is here at Tech today of course, and according to the police and rescue workers, the true death toll is 40 people. Also, the truth behind what really happened in AJ in the morning is the killer was suspicious his g/f was cheating on him, and managed to catch her in bed with another guy. So he shot them both on the spot.
Anyway, just found that news plus the higher death number very shocking. And yes, this info did travel from the paramedic to my dad's coworker to my dad and to me. However those are clear facts and direct from the inside of the investigation as far as we were told."

Quote : | "(CNN) -- Virginia Tech graduate student Jamal Albarghouti captured dramatic video of the deadly shooting on his cell phone.
He was heading across campus to meet with an adviser, not knowing anything of the 7.15 a.m. dormitory attack that killed at least one person.
He was nearing Patton Hall when a man started shouting at everyone to get out of the way, Albarghouti told CNN. (Watch Albarghouti's video of police officers swarming amid the sound of gunfire Video)
He said he was only about 200 feet from Norris Hall, where the second round of shooting happened.
"I just turned around and left," he said, and that was when he ran into police officers rushing to the scene.
"When I saw the policemen taking their guns out, then I knew that this was serious."
Albarghouti took cover on the ground as ordered by the officers and then pulled out his cell phone to shoot video.
He captured scenes of police officers with guns drawn, moving toward a building. The sound of multiple shots being fired can also be heard on the video.
Albarghouti, like many other students on the campus, was aware there had been bomb threats recently.
But he said seeing the officers draw their guns made him realize this was different.
"I knew it was something way more serious than that, so I started taking the video," he said, adding that he often visited CNN.com and knew he could send his video to I-Report." |

Quote : | "Tuesday, January 31, 2006 A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly." |
Quote : | "Most universities in Virginia require students and employees, other than police, to check their guns with police or campus security upon entering campus. The legislation was designed to prohibit public universities from making "rules or regulations limiting or abridging the ability of a student who possesses a valid concealed handgun permit ... from lawfully carrying a concealed handgun."" |

How's that for ironic? Looks like that worked out real well, if even one honest, law-abiding citizen who had been through the background checks and training for a concealed carry permit was in that building this shooting could have been over waaay before the death toll rose so horribly high....4/16/2007 8:40:17 PM |
