I saw it yesterday in 3D. I thought this one was better than the last one (3D was about what I expected).

I didnt think they did a good job of making it feel like a whole school year had passed.( it seemed like a week) But this movie was definitely more entertaining and I was caught up in the movie more so than the last one.

Much much better than the last one. They did a better job with continuity than they did with the last one.

Apparently the producers almost cut the character of Bellatrix Lestrange from this movie

However, JK Rowling told them that would be an "unwise decision" because of her importance in the 7th and final book (and thus, 7th and final movie)

They would have been complete idiots to cut her from the movie...

She plays a huge role in the 5th and 6th books...

I got tickets at crossroads for the midnight show..

it is playing on 6 screens and 3 were sold out as of 4PM

Am I the only one who isn't affected by reading spoilers before they see the movie/read the book? I honestly sometimes even seek out the spoilers before I can see the film just out of impatience, it really doesn't ruin it for me either for some reason.

i'm not... because the end of the book isn't the only reason i read it... to be honest, most endings are a bit of a letdown for me anyway, so knowing what's going to happen doesn't really bother me all that much...

Harry dies, Harry lives, Harry sprouts branches from his forehead and becomes a whomping willow... whatever, doesn't really matter.

i'll be the first to comment on the movie without giving spoilers.... I'm glad they cut out a lot of "talk" from the beginning and kept the important stuff. The middle was rushed however, from when harry got to school, to the department of mysteries battle. Some minor details were cut out from the book, but nothing extremely important. However, the fight in the hall of prophecy was fucking awesome. I would seriously pay to see this in the IMAX. I thought the new characters were very well cast and gave good performances.

SPOILERS ABOUT THE MOVIE!!!!

Some things that were different or cut that I didn't agree with...

Lots of rooms were cut from the department of mysteries. Also, harry never heard the prophecy in the hall, only when dumbledore told him. Also, did Bellatrix hit sirius with the avada kedavra curse? I thought he was hit with a different curse and then fell into the veil...

The DA thing was all wrong. They never included the enchanted coins and all that... Filch never waited outside for them in the book..i just didn't like how they did those scenes...

ALso, they completely left out quidditch...that's ok i guess...

They left out the hospital with neville's grandma and parents...

Fred and George escaped during owls...not to give harry a diversion as in the book...also, their brooms were not locked up...

Dumbledore's howler to Petunia was left out

Draco was given hardly any screen time..i realize he isn't that important in this book but i still wanted to see him more...

Funniest 3 scenes in the movie included: Shacklebolt commenting on dumbledore's style....professor flitwick doing the armpump....and Snape hitting Ron with the book

The final scene with dumbledore and voldemort was awesome...i'm glad they included the very powerful curse that Dumbledore threw at voldemort...and voldemort blocked it with that shield that broke all the glass...
JK said we would find out more about that powerful curse in book 7...
That's all for now, I'm going to bed.

my roomate just re-read the book before seeing the movie and she was more disapointed because she noticed every little thing that was different from the book.

it felt awkward... forced... rushed...

it felt like, if they'd stuck another half hour onto the movie (which they had every right to do, all the fans know that this is the longest book, and a 2.5+ hour movie would have been expected) it probably would have been better but still felt forced...

i mean, i could go through the list of "not enough time on A, not enough time on B..." but it just boils down to there not being enough time to tell the whole story...

heh, nothing happened. they said they couldn't fix the film, so they gave us two free movie passes per person. one large b!tch kept complaining about how the Raleigh Grande had ruined a "magical experience" for her. and other people were like "I JUST WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!"

i guess my theater was lucky, the reel just kinda went off center (like having the vertical out on an old tv) for a few seconds... nothing bad...

of course, i had to drive out to apex for it... but at least the theater was clean and they had so many screens that it wasn't overcrowded...

I went to see it with Cif82 and federal and some other peeps at Southpoint. I really liked it. I thought they did a good job of kind of giving you the cliff's notes of the story, but it did feel rushed and could easily have been another 30-60 minutes longer and been better. But whateva. The big battle scene at the end was pretty sweet.

Everything said is dead on. Great movie, great movie, GREAT MOVIE. They did cut alot and the movie was only a bit over 2hrs. They could have had a 2:40-2:50 hr movie considering it is one of if not the longest book. The scenes they did were great, but alot of my favorite scenes from the book were cut.

Still a great movie, and consistent with past HP movies.

see, i'm not willing to call it a great movie...

the 3d movie had some really great storytelling in it...
the 4th movie was just a blockbuster through and through, it was well done and tons of fun...

this one, there was just too much, and the scenes were stunted, it was like there was no transition between setup and execution of just about everything involved.

the movie seems more like it just illustrated the book rather than really telling the story of the book

^I can agree with you there, I guess I am just looking at what they did do with the material they did use. I do wish/agree that they should have add 30-45 minutes of material and that would have raised the bar even higher.

that part, at least, you can't explain without having quidditch.

i'm sad to hear neville's parents and the petunia howler were left out (the howler for sure would've only taken 5 minutes)

SPOILERS..........Yes alot was cut out, but still a good movie...some of my thoughts follows...

Yeah, I was looking forward to Neville Parents, I thought that was a big part of the story and development of Neville. Neville did not look so much like a dork this movie.

And Quidditch, I thought was a big part of the torture for Harry and the School turning against Umbridge.

Also I wanted more of the Snape-Sirius conflict/fight at the Black House

they did mention neville's parents being tortured, but not how it was in the book... i was hoping to see the hospital scene in the movie...oh well, they didn't even mention that the prophecy could have been about 2 boys, but voldemort attacked harry, marking him as an equal, and hence the prophecy was about harry...

guess it would have confused people

The question about the spell Dumbledore was trying to cast on Voldemort in the ministry came from an interview with JK Rowling...here it is, with a link to the whole interview

MA: Now that Dumbledore is gone, will we ever know the spell that he was trying to cast on Voldemort in the Ministry?

JKR: Uuuummmm...[makes clucking noise with tongue ]

ES: Let the record show she made a funny sound with her mouth.

[All laugh, Jo maniacally.]

JKR: It’s possible, it's possible that you will know that. You will — [pause] — you will know more about Dumbledore. I have to be sooo careful on this.

http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2005/0705-tlc_mugglenet-anelli-2.htm

Go to pages 813-814 of OotP. Dumbledore flicked his wand and a spell came out that made harry's hair stand on end. Voldemort had to conjure a silver shield to deflect it. Dumbledore told Voldemort that there were things worse than death and merely killing Voldemort would not satisfy him....so it had to be one crazy spell

Also, I think it is cool that Dumbledore's brother is the barman at the Hog's Head... That will play a big role in the 7th book i'm sure

Good movie, but I won't call it great. It felt far too rushed as others have mentioned and the things they changed annoyed me (it's hard to separate the books from the movies).

In any event, I enjoyed the movie and now I can't wait for the last book to come out

1. I'm glad they got the 'harry is a dick to everyone' plot wrapped up quick and moved onto 'harry the general'. the DA scenes were well handled
2. the girl that played luna was really good
3. everything at the ministry was awesome
4. bleached hair aside, draco looked pretty cool in that black suit at the beginning. I hope the kid can act though, draco has a lot more to do than be [generic teenage dick] in the next one.
5. man there were some shitty trailers before this. like 4 other movies about kids using magic & some dreck with vince vaughn as santa's brother. I smiled when I heard some little girl across the theater say "that looks dumb" after that one. there may be hope for the future yet.

and now, for some geeky fan nitpicks:
1. why didn't harry just give dudley some chocolate after the dementor attack? (actually, it's been awhile since I read ootp so I don't recall exactly what happened. but still...)
2. ron/hermione pushing harry at cho while ginny is standing right there. they both know that she is into harry, but they keep doing it anyway.
3. the person-talking-in-fire thing was actually exactly how I imagined it from the books. not the disturbing face of embers thing that they used in GoF.
4. I wish we had seen tonks do more than play at the dinner table

^^ the chocolate used for a dementor attack is "Wizard's Chocolate" (from the books), so he might not have had any lying around at the time...

also, by the 5th book Ginny has effectively ignored her crush on Harry, and is off dating other people...
