I don't care that they're going bankrupt. I care about HOW they decided to go bankrupt. I mean, by your reasoning if a suicide bomber decides to blow up a few people and himself, we shouldn't care about what he did because "he's not here anymore"

there's a difference between some people being out a few bucks and some people being out of their lives.

if im struggling to maintain my business, but i have to shut down unexpectedly, you can be damn sure i wont give a fuck if i piss off some pussy ass people in the process.

what incentive would they have to conitue to operate when they have no money to

a.) pay their employees
b.) pay feul costs
c.) maintain their aircraft

if i know this is the case, and i know that it's due to an airline "shutting down in 30 days"

you'd be damn sure i'd be cancelling anyways and be rebooking elsewhere.

Fuel prices have been rising for years now. They knew damn well they were going down the shitter for a while now and couldn't have the decency to inform the public so that the public could make a better decision as to who would be more stable to fly to attend a brothers wedding/ receive important medical care/ attend the births of loved ones/ ect. ect. To excuse them completely from how they handled this situation is ridiculous. And you sir, if you knew damn well that you were closing your doors tomorrow and waved to your last customer who's depending on you for something important by saying "see you tomorrow!", then you too would be immoral and dishonest.

You're right. I guess it's sorta like how you look in the mirror each morning and are completely misguided in the thought that you are cool and that people actually WANT to be friends with you, rather than just tolerating you.

I love that people are acting like the SkyBus should care about its customers. Its called the business world people. Not every world is nice comfy ole Raleigh. Sometimes out there ya get fucked, and not in the good way. If I owned a company, I have no reason to be loyal to my customers if I was a company this young other than trying to take as much money pre banq as possible from idiots who wanted and thought they could get a $10 ticket in todays world.

"the fleet"

I doubt they owned any of the airplanes. They are probably already repainted and being used elsewhere.

Most businesses do not let the word get out when they are about to close up because everyone freaks and starts stealing shit.

My friend used to work at they Darryl's that was on Glenwood. She worked there for a long time, about 5-6 days a week. One day she showed up for work and the building was locked, there was a sign in the door saying "thanks for your business....blah blah we are now closed".

Needless to say she was fucked by that since most of the money she made was in tips.

I think Skybus had a very innovative business model. The only problem I saw was no one wanted to fly to/from the airports they serviced. That and you cannot even get 3.5 gallons of car gas now for $10.

Oh yeah and this right here says that they probably do not have the money to pay the refunds. If you have to go through the CC company the credit cards protection policy applies.

I just had to call my CC company and dispute the charge. I just think it's ridiculous that they emailed me Thursday to say that my flight time was changing (for a flight in July), and they go out of business not even 12 hours later.

They didn't bother to send an email about the situation until 2 this afternoon either.

What sucks is everyone who does not have the money to buy another ticket has to wait until that dispute process completes and then their CC company or bank will give them the money back.

I bet some people who don't have any money laying around are getting royally screwed by this.

"NCSU dancers grounded

The N.C. State University Dance Team is in crisis mode, thanks to the shutdown of Skybus Airlines.

The team had bought tickets to fly on the discount airline to Daytona Beach, Fla., Wednesday to compete in the National Dance Alliance/National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship.

But the team got caught short by the news late Friday that Skybus was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shutting down operations immediately.

"One of our teammates' mothers was watching the news and saw it," assistant coach Kristin Smith said.

Now, the dancers need to find some extra money and new transportation -- quickly.

They had spent $3,000 for budget-priced Skybus tickets leaving from Piedmont Triad International Airport near Greensboro. As of Saturday, the team's Wachovia debit account had not been refunded, and there's no telling when it might be.

"That's going to be a small amount compared to what it's going to cost to get these last-minute tickets," said team member Jenna Richards, 19, a sophomore who traveled to the competition last year.

Her coaches figure that finding tickets on such short notice at another airline would cost more than twice as much. They may try to rent a bus.

Smith said the team's bank account has about $3,000, and that was to be used for walk-around money in Daytona.

Some members may try to find space on a chartered bus with the school's cheerleaders, who are also headed to Daytona Beach to compete. Cheerleaders are funded by NCSU's athletic department, Smith said.

But the dance team is one of the school's student-run campus recreational organizations. Although the dance team performs at the same athletic events as cheerleaders and the marching band, which also gets university funding, the dance team's money generally comes from fundraising and some appearances.

Coaches said the dance team puts in at least 12 hours a week practicing, which takes place both on and off campus. The coaches do not get paid.

Every couple of years or so, Smith said, the dance team makes a pitch for university funding. New head coach Jamila Wright said she is not concerned with that this year.

"I'm content with the way that we are," Wright said. "A lot of the things that we do as a team, as far as our fundraising, we wouldn't really be able to do if we were part of the university."

The team's biggest hope now is that people who go to Reynolds Coliseum tonight at 6 for a "dress rehearsal" performance will feel inspired to donate to the cause -- helping the team get to Daytona.

Coaches said the six team members who are not performing will probably set up a table to sell posters and take donations.

Wright worries that those six alternates may need to stay home this year to cut costs.

"We're probably going to get parents to help us out," Smith said.

The team placed 10th at the national competition last year. This year, they're hoping for a win.

"We're trying to get back in the top three or top five this year," Richards said. "We have a really, really good routine this year. Good choreography. Good costumes. We have the whole package this year." "

Yeh that whole deal with the dance team sucks. Them and the cheerleaders are the only top 10 teams in the nation that we have. It looks as though they may miss their national competition too, just like all of our Varsity Sports. When it rains it poors!

Alright, here's a thought. Take that money and figure out how to get down there first. Make the team pay for their own "walking around" time if they want to go out and about.

The entire dance team is like 26 people, coaches included. Go find the nearest fast food place with a dollar menu. I'm not trying to be an ass here, I'm just saying that if they are all about competition then suck it up and try to make ends meet for at least the rest of this season.

That or have a bikini car wash.

Or, how about they realized their only shot was to hope they could keep getting passengers and recover. Saying, "y'know, you might not want to buy a ticket with us, we might go out of business", isn't the best way to keep customers. Sucks, yeah, but welcome to the real world.

^^^Greyhound bus sucks. My mom had her flight to Columbus Ohio delayed because of weather, so she checked into greyhound and it would have cost $121 and taken 15 hours to get there. My dad and her drove to Columbus in 8 hours.

Put up or shut up for card companies

Quote :
"For years, credit card companies have bragged about their dispute policies -- you know, the ones that let customers challenge charges on their accounts when the services aren't rendered or a product was otherwise misrepresented.
Now the dispute policies will be put to a real test as thousands of travelers try to recoup money from troubled airlines that recently went bust, including ATA, Skybus, Aloha and Frontier.

No doubt when it's all said and done, this problem will show consumers just how serious credit card companies are about customer service.

Lindy Marshall, who lives in the Cleveland area of Johnston County, is hoping to get a refund of $5,000 for five tickets she bought from ATA Airlines with her Wachovia Visa credit card.

For the past five years, she and her husband, Mike, have saved to take their entire family in August to Hawaii on their 25th wedding anniversary. Without a refund, the trip will be canceled.

"I can't afford to spend another $5,000 on tickets," Marshall said.

Marshall said she called Wachovia on April 5 and again Monday. She was told in a company e-mail message that she had to complete dispute papers, which would be mailed to her within 30 days. After that, it could take an additional 90 days to resolve her case.

Wachovia spokeswoman Christine Shaw said that is the bank's policy for purchases bought with a Wachovia credit card.

Typically in these cases, if a consumer bought tickets with a credit card, he or she should get a refund. But given the magnitude of the situation -- complicated by airlines seeking bankruptcy protection -- that's a big if.

"In general, the ... [dispute policy] is a great benefit and usually works quite well," said Curtis Arnold, founder and director of CardRatings.com. Credit card companies "typically get the money back. They can get results that the average consumer can't get."

A couple of credit card companies have said that their dispute policies are still in effect and that they offer instant refunds while charges are being disputed.

"When customers dispute a charge, they receive an immediate credit or reversal of charges," Chase spokeswoman Megan A. Stinson said. Chase customers can dispute charges online, by phone or by mail.

Discover gives customers a credit while it investigates a dispute, spokeswoman Laura Gingiss said. Disputes are usually resolved within 30 days, she said.

Attempts to reach Visa, Master Card and American Express representatives were unsuccessful.

Gingiss explained that because the merchants are the credit card company's customers, too, they have agreements that aid in resolving disputes.

For those who bought tickets with cash or check, the chances of a refund are bleak. Those customers will have to try to recoup their money in bankruptcy court, where they will likely be at the tail end of a long list of creditors -- and unlikely to get any of the remaining cash.

There is still a question for people who paid with debit cards.

Ellen Cannon, managing editor of Bankrate.com, said based on recent conversations with representatives at Visa and MasterCard, the companies intend to offer the same protection to debit card users that they do to other credit card customers.

"You should be able to dispute a debit charge just like you would a regular Visa or MasterCard," Cannon said.

But some bank analysts say that might not be so easy. Getting a refund through a debit card depends on the banks' cooperation, Cannon said. Ultimately, the bank is the creditor, and it would have to put the funds back into the checking account.

For consumers, this refund issue is going to be a good lesson in customer service. For credit card companies, this will be a chance to shine by proving how well they protect their customers.

Whether you have charges in dispute or not, it's important to pay attention to how these customers are treated. The credit card companies that offer instant credit, resolve the dispute quickly and side with the customer are the ones I want to do business with.

Ditto for Marshall.
