I never said "shame on you" or that you're an idiot. I said it sucks that you have to root for such a worthless, overhyped sack of shit. I'm glad that he's not on my team. In fact, my team (the Chargers) are looking better every year for making the draft-day trade that sent Vick to Atlanta and landed them LT and Brees.

Why? The Falcons have had almost the exact same results since that trade. And Vick single handedly turned the Falcons franchise around. They would have never sold out the games like they have by just having LT on the field. Vick brought excitement and fan interest, and lifted the Falcons from the bottom of the NFL. I'd say Atlanta has gotten more out of Vick than they would have from LT.

Its the same thing that Houston COULD have had with Vince Young had they drafted him. That franchise went from selling out games, to being a joke and pissing of what little fan base they had by taking Mario.

or maybe the falcons would actually have a real qb playin the position and coupled with the best rb in the league they could too be on the verge of greatness....instead they are about to be left with joey Harrington at qb, a slowing and aging warrick dunn, and countless receivers who couldn't catch anything

Like I said, right now the Falcons are ahead. And Vick is a real QB. The word passing does not show up anywhere in the defenition of a QB. The Falcons are just fine in the RB position, and I am glad you admit the Falcons are lacking in receivers, one of the reasons the Falcons have done so poorly the past 2 years.

Oh, and lets not forget, the Chargers ONLY have Rivers because Brees and LT were on the team that played so poorly, they were able to get Rivers. The Falcons made it to the championship game faster and were able to sell out all their home games. So yeah, they are way ahead.

i hear where you're coming from...but i'd agree more with something like congres cracking down on steroids in baseball...that seemed like a waste of govt funding

the thing with the dogs is that, lets say he had 20 fighting dogs...that could be 20 felonies...3 strikes and you're out...20 strikes...hell even superstars have to face consequences

unless you're randy johnson or roger clemens twice (lame baseball joke)

^the falcons are way ahead? sounds like they were way ahead of themselves when they got rid of schaub...hindsight is 20/20! and vick is going to get suspended!

as much as i'd like to argue that QBs need to pass, you're right...the word passing DOESNT show up anywhere in the definition of QB...however the definition of Superbowl QB most certainly contains the word "passing"

They got a pick that led to Brees and they also got Tim Dwight. Neither of which are even with the team anymore.

Can't recall what happened with Dwight but I believe the Chargers got a 3rd round compensentory pick in this past draft for Drew Brees leaving in free agency.

haha, here's a funny take on portis

Quote :
" Portis' bark deserves a bite in the bum

Michael Vick hosting dog fights at his home doesn't bother Clinton Portis, who says, "if that's what he wants to do, then do it."
If somebody is too stupid to understand the fundamental immorality of dog fighting, you're never going to be able to explain it to him.

So don't waste your breath on Clinton Portis.

You could show him scripture, wherein man's dominion over animals comes with an insistence on "holiness and justice."

You could photocopy Gandhi's essay on animal rights for him.

Heck, you could even give him a copy of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man in the hopes that he might see a parallel in the inhumanity between Ellison's battle royal — a brutal free-for-all fought by black men for the entertainment of whites — and a bunch of men standing around and cheering as two dogs tear each other apart.

But none of it would take. So this isn't a column with an educational purpose. This is a more retributive exercise with the aim of adding just a sliver of anguish and misery to the otherwise great life of multi-millionaire jackass Clinton Portis, written on behalf of my dog Sam.

In what could have been a completely inconsequential off-season interview, the idiot Portis, for no apparent reason, decided to weigh in on behalf of Michael Vick and in favor of dog fighting.

When I saw the headline I thought it must have been one ill-conceived comment — perhaps blown out of proportion or taken the wrong way — but, oh no, Portis went out of his way to reiterate again and again in different ways that he has no problems with dog owners fighting their dogs.

If you thought Ted Koppel tried to throw Al Campanis a lifeline, check out how many times the interviewer gives Portis opportunities to backtrack.

On the topic of Vick facing possible charges for dog fighting, Portis opened with, "I think people should mind their business, you know. I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, his dog, if that's what he wants to do, do it."

When apprised by the startled interviewer that dog fighting is a felony, Portis was fairly incredulous. It seems to be the first he's heard of that development within our justice system. But he's ready with a rebuttal.

"It can't be too bad of a crime. There's a lot of stuff that's crimes, you know. It's killers on the loose over here and you want to hunt down Michael Vick over fighting some dogs."

Well said, Clint. Well said. But he was just getting started.

"I think behind closed doors the same people who do all the judging are probably some of the harshest people around. They're Internet predators and everything else."

Smart. Use the Karl Rove strategy, go on the attack. The people — law enforcement officers, district attorneys, judges — condemning others for dog fighting are Internet predators. Nice.

Come to think of it, we've got to get Chris Hansen and his crew to surprise the gang at one of these dog fights. Those would be some choice interviews. Smart crowd, the dog fighting fan base.

Apparently Portis was no stranger to these Mensa meetings when he was growing up.

"I'm from Laurel, Mississippi, so I know a lot of backroads that got a dog fight if you want to go see it." Perhaps the FBI can take up Clinton on this offer.

After suggesting that he suspected cops and judges were staging dogfights too, Portis was asked what he would think if Vick is charged and convicted.

Still unclear on the illegal nature of the activity, Portis asks, "How could you convict somebody on a dog fight?"

Okay, knucklehead, hypothetically, what if Vick were convicted?

"Then I think he got cheated. You take a positive role model...and put him behind bars for no reason, over a dog fight."

Positive role model? Wow, this interview just gets nuttier and nuttier. Was it his airport antics, flipping off the fans, or throwing coaches under the bus that made Vick a positive role model? I forget.

Portis seems genuinely confused at why we can't do whatever we want to our animals in the privacy of our massive compounds. He seems to be asking, if you own the animals and you keep it on your property, who's to say you can't torture them? Civil society, Clinton, that's who.

The sad part is I had always liked Clinton Portis. I thought the costumes were great and his sound bites consistently funny. But he's lost me now.

When I think about pro athletes siccing dogs on one another it makes me consider rooting for catastrophic knee injuries.

But I guess I'm not that cruel. If, however, Portis missed another batch of games in '07 with his chronic shoulder problems, well, maybe it would be karma.

Anyone who flippantly condones animal cruelty deserves no better."

thats fucking ridiculous. i say we give them a taste of their own medicine - put them in the georgia dome in front of 1000s of screaming lunatics and have them fight to the death. dog fighting is about as low as you can get. hell at least the latino countries have the decency to use chickens (dogs >>>> roosters).

they should both be suspended for even possibly being tied to dog fighting.

Look dogfighting is a part of black culture just like watching local news is a part of white culture and not wearing deodorant is a part of indian culture.

People are just going to have to start being more understanding and taking cultural considerations.

Dogs are descendants of freaking wolves right? They fight. People love UFC fighting. Race horses are treated like shit.

Animals are animals. I dont condone or participate in dog fighting but if i guy wants to sit back and chill, gamble, smoke weed, watch dogfights, etc I just dont care. That sort of stuff comes along with being a motherfucking baller who can get away with it. As long as he pays the appropriate fines/legal fees/etc then what he does is fine with me. Just be ready to ball out on Sundays.

The charges on Vick are weaksauce and good for Portis for taking an unpopular stance in the name of being real.

while portis' comment was dumb, i think it got slightly overblown

i kind of viewed it as a "i dont care...its his property...if he wants to smoke weed on his property, who cares"

even though obviously one guy smoking weed isnt nearly as bad as forcing dogs who cant make decisions for themselves to fight for the death...but i just think he had a kind of individualistic view that got blown out of proportion

or maybe portis is a big idiot, i dunno

yeeeessss....
turn inward against your golden god..... he has forsaken you..... put him on the trading block and start joey harrington.... julius peppers is going to be licking his chops....

Maybe they will trade Vicky to the Redskins? He would be a great fit with that fanbase (DC is mad ghetto like that) Plus that would allow him and Portis to be ever so chummy I mean its not like the redskins have had a QB at all for years anyways....

"WAVY REPORTER SAYS THAT MORE NFL PLAYERS COULD BE INVOLVED IN DOG FIGHTING

Just when it seems that, courtesy of Gerald Poindexter's Sgt. Schulz routine, no one will face prosecution in Surry County, Virginia for the dog-fighting operation found at Mike Vick's property there, along comes a nugget that makes us think that, regardless of anything Poindexter says, does, or tries to do, justice eventually will be served.

In a radio interview with our old friend Rick Ballou of 1010 XL in Jacksonville, WAVY-TV's Mary Kay Mallonee said that, based on information she's obtained in connection with her work on the Vick story, other NFL players could be involved in dog fighting.

"That is what investigators are kind of hinting to me right now," she said. "That 'wait 'til you see who else's name pops up in this'. With that they're playing close to the vest, but they're definitely making me feel like Michael Vick's name is not the only one we're going to recognize before this is all over."

Later, Ballou said, "When I mention 'other NFL players,' do you know of some other names, even off the record? Have you been told that there are some names, along with [Vick]?"

Her response? "Yes, yes I have."

Mallonee has been all over this story, as have other true journalists in Virginia and elsewhere. Also, she's the one who was questioning Clinton Portis last week when he let fly his now-infamous remarks condoning dog fighting.

Meanwhile, the e-mails are flowing in from readers who are upset with the manner in which Poindexter is handling this matter. And wolks want to know how they can voice their displeasure.

Here's a link to the contact information for the constitutional officers of Surry County. Curiously, each officer has an e-mail address, with the exception of Mr. Poindexter.

But his office phone number is available. Since he's a public servant and the information is publicly available, we see no problem with letting PFT Planet publicly know that he can be reached at 757-294-3118.

It also might be a good idea, if you are so inclined, to give law enforcement some support, too, since by all appearances investigators believe that there's enough evidence to warrant further action. Sheriff Harold Brown can be reached at surrysheriff@ruralam.net.

UPDATE: One of our readers has deduced that Poindexter's e-mail address is gpoindexter@courts.state.va.us. We haven't given it a try. Yet.

"

I saw a SC segment yesterday that basically said they didnt have enough evidence to tie Vick directly to the dog fighting and that he would skate through court at least until the upcoming season is over. By then this will be old news with much less public outcry..... too bad for the rest of the NFC south I was really looking forward to seeing what Joey Interception looked like getting crushed by Peppers....
