prob 45 minutes from my house...we'll see how the price goes as the auction closes. i love FJ40s...concerned that it won't have enough power with the 2F to run comfortably (well, you know what i mean) at 75-85 mph on the open highways out here--especially up through British Columbia on the way to Whistler.

my 3fe fj62 will run 70-80 okay, it just takes a calender to get there. power isn't much better than a 2f and it's a heavier vehicle. don't expect to be pulling any grades at that speed though, or anywhere close. they aren't called iron pigs for nothing.

yeah, i don't mind it being slower than Christmas in acceleration, i just don't want it to take WOT to maintain 75-80 mph, and as a result getting 8 mpg and having nothing at all in reserve if the road turns uphill in the least bit. that's the way my YJ was on 31s...it would've been unusable on 33s or 35s (not to mention that it would've grenaded the AX5 even sooner, if it didn't get the D35 first).

yeah, don't expect one to be any better than your yj.

i just got the cruiser pretty recently. i'm going to sell it though.

uhhh, i've got 7 vehicles at the moment... 10 if you want to count demo derby cars.

yeah, i'd prob be better off with a V8 swapped one

or just a K5 or Ramcharger or something that can be found for a song with V8 POWR from the factory.

i just hate to let this one go if i can get it for a stupid cheap price. might just say "fuck it, it'll just take a little longer to get to the slopes and cost us a little more in gas"

yeah, you can't go wrong with one for tank like reliability. it's not something that's going to be losing value either, cruisers are getting wilder in price by the day.

you're going to have to really be on top of this one or get bidsniper on it or something though. i have a feeling there are ALOT of people watching it with the price being that low with less than a day left. i bet it goes for $4k+.

^^^ went for $2600. maybe i should've bought it, or at least gone to look at it and considered it more seriously...i don't know.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/367044780.html

this one's been up for sale for several weeks. she wants 4k; i might offer her 3k. more than i wanna spend, but i'm pretty sure the truck should bring more--probably considerably more with the minor problems fixed (in addition to the heater core and the fuel gauge, the e-brake doesn't work).

she sent me some bigger pics...body looks pretty straight. few dents and some surface rust...looks cancer-free, though (although who knows what's under that diamond plate).

on the other hand, i'm hard pressed not to just get an 800-1500 beater K5 or something and have even more space for ski gear and stuff.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/car/368799742.html

a little tempted to check into this

185k miles on an AX5 scares me, though

and the rust, dana 35, and weak 4cyl power aren't selling points

however, i could sell the hardtop and hard doors and make at LEAST a grand of it back right there. sell one of the sets of wheels/tires, too and make some more of it back...by the time i talk him down a couple of hundred bucks, i could have damn near a free Jeep. I'd have to just about count on transmission work, though. i've never heard of an AX5 going longer than 185k.

or there's always these two FJs:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/car/365079476.html

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/367044780.html

they've both been up for sale for a little while...maybe one of them will play ball on the price.

or this FJ:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/car/370337319.html

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/car/370350770.html

maybe make him a lowball offer if it's a 6cyl without horrible mileage

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/365126385.html

pretty interested here...depending on the nature of the work needed. doesn't sound like much of anything. need to see if it has a top.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/369512403.html

it MUST be a heap of junk, but i'm gonna call anyway

going to look at this tonight...it's on base, so i'll stop on the way to the gym.

says it has a 460 and manual trans...pretty sure the 460 must've been swapped, and it sure as hell looks like a column shifter in the picture...although as best as i can find on google, the only manual offered as a T-8 4spd...i can't imagine anyone would've yanked that to convert it to 3-on-the-tree.

it's also been for sale for almost a month, so i bet he'll bite on $1000. looks like the body's pretty straight and rust-free, although i have no idea what he means by "steering back". i'll have to see what's up there.

I fucking fear the appetite for gasoline it surely has, though.

youll need to verify that its a 460 for certian, also check the rag joint in the steering for, well- see if its still there. i have replaced several of those on old ford trucks. of course take a look at the tir rod ends, etc. checking kingpin play is tough to do without jacking it up but thats also a concern if you dont want to be wrenching on it too much.

78-79 ford trucks rock though

yeah. also the bigger 4wd trucks used kingpin d60's. the 78-79 ford d60 is the best/most desireable of all 60 fronts. narrow perch width, two piston calipers, high pinion, kingpins, etc.

i don't really want an auto, but this seems like a potentially really good deal. maybe an auto would actually be the better choice for running automatic lockers in it, though.

cool. it's definitely worth that if it's as clean as the pictures look. should be pretty strong (for a small block truck) with that rebuilt 360.

if you end up with it and it doesn't already have one, i've got a factory 4 bbl intake/carb you can get if you want it.

i think that RC sold tonight (i couldn't get it until tomorrow).

so here's another one...

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/car/372586842.html

not sold on 3" of body lift, but we'll see.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/car/371879882.html

there's also this 4Runner, but that's after they went to a gayass IFS, right?

i'm not interested in fooling around with a SAS...it would cost as much as the whole damn truck, and I don't have the means to do anything like that myself, anyway.

and this XJ

but only if it has relatively low mileage and a D44 in the rear

body lift isn't a huge deal as long as it was done right. biggest things to look out for on that truck:

-auto trans linkage/t-case shifter work within their full ranges

-fan shroud dropped

-the main harness will bind on them with a 3" unless you loosen some clamps... make sure the bulkhead fitting isn't being pulled down.

- STEERING! those trucks already have a bit of a crappy design with a rag joint. make sure the shaft has been properly extended. big plus if it's been replaced with a borgeson shaft. i would make that first on your list to do if it hasn't.

if the body lift bothers you that much, i've got a full set of stock body mount bolts to fit it if you wanted to drop it back down.

also, check the front brake line on that suspension lift. the rear has enough slack, but the front should have been replaced with a longer one.

it probably uses a raised steering block to correct the draglink angle. this should use studs, cone washers, and nuts. NOT bolts, they will snap. not a deal breaker, but if it's got bolts get some studs in it asap. or, crossover steering is a pretty easy/cheap affair on those.

well, i talked to the dude with the blue RC...he said the engine is a fuel-injected model out of a mopar car...has like 40k miles or something. the rear axle is (as i expected) a 9.25, not D44 as listed in the ad (by his wife who didn't know what she was talking about). the trans is a 727.

he said that he didn't do the body lift, but that the steering has been lengthened, along with the shift linkage. hopefully they did the rest--guess i'll have to look and see.

he also agreed to $1250 (i offered him $1000, and we agreed to split the difference).

think he said it was from a late 80s gran fury

hey, those 80s ramchargers don't have a removeable top at all, do they (like not even a half-top)? they're also part-time 4x4 instead of full-time like the earlier ones, aren't they?

yeah, fury is the same thing.

correct, the 81-93 trucks have fixed tops. 74 was a full removeable top and door frames integrated to the top. 75-80 fully removeable top but the door frames are attached to the doors.

4wd is part time. that one should have an np208. it'll have auto hubs and vacuum CAD axle. manual hubs bolt on easy, and the two piece shaft can be replace with a one piece if you care.

seriously you're skimming the muck on the bottom of the pond and asking which handful smells the least like shit.

granted they're all pretty tough trucks but nothing says "i'm a dumbass redneck" like a 2 door full size suv. unfortunately i had to suck in the original blazer into that but it had to be done.
