I definitely cringed twice right before the two scenes of guys getting killed in the pit. It wasn't even that gory when it happened, I was just expecting a graphic scene of a drill bit going through someones head.

But I was laughing my ass off when the credits rolled.

I was actually annoyed when some of the audience was laughing at the final scene. It's such an intense performance that I was taken out of the movie.

It's good to know that you don't have to even be a real person to agree with me about the soundtrack:

Quote :
"This may not be a completely fair review because the sound was clearly broken for the entire movie and it made the music sound like a bunch of cows dying. I complained to the manager but he lied and told me that the music was supposed to sound like that."

dont know what to say to you, but ive seen this movie 2x with large groups of friends and both groups thought the music was one of the stronger points of the movie.

i think maybe your theaters speakers WERE broken.

The soundtrack was composed by Johnny Greenwood, the guitarist for Radiohead. It was one of the best parts of the movie.

Sorry they didn't use the latest Beyonce song, maybe you would have enjoyed that.

i also tend to think that using Michael Scott as a resource to back you up on anything is absurd lol. Seeing as his entire character is written to be someone who has incredibly wrong opinions, ideas, and understandings on nearly anything he ever talks about. Hes a know it all who doesnt actually know anything about anything he talks about, which is why his character is so great.

My GF sent that 'review' to me after we saw the movie and we thought it was funny because it fit his character so well. he would never enjoy a good movie that was out of the ordinary, but would rather watch alvin and the chipmunks.

The movie was 100% unoriginal.

You will find nothing here that was not said better in Citizen Kane or Giant.

Anderson's supposed "struggle between faith and greed" is really a pointless side-show to his 2.5 hour long character study of Plainview. PT Anderson is all look and no substance.

That being said, the movie looks very beautiful at times and DDL is over the moon in this picture.

Having taken 1 basic film class, and seen citizen kane once, I will lend my expert assessment.

That main guy is a good actor. Crazy eyes.

He only kills when he is separated from his son.

Did I just blow your mind?

Tell me why there wasn't anyone down in the well when it hit that pocket of gas??? Like when the drill shaft fell on him at the beginning of the drilling.

How can you not know the name of the character (Daniel Plainview) or the name of the actor (Danial Day-Lewis)?

considering the number of years he's been in he hasn't done THAT many movies

but he's done a number of really good ones

he must be really picky about scripts

Could DDL be the greatest shoe-in for an Oscar award ever? I was going over his awards on IMDB and he hasn't lost this award to anyone yet. Hell, according to IMDB the National Society of Film Critics Awards gave him two awards for his acting in this movie.

DDL was wonderful in this movie, but I'm not sure he would deserve an oscar.
I mean, I don't think he went anywhere he didn't go in Gangs of New York (mustache and rage!!!).
Of course, he didn't get the oscar for GONY, so if they want to do this as a "make-up" oscar I guess that's cool.

it would suck to live with him during filming, he gets into and stays in character a while before and during shooting right?

Apparently during filming of Gangs of New York when the rest of the cast and crew took lunch break he would stay on set and sharpen his knives.

^^ Yeah, he had back injuries from holding that position in a wheel chair for so long. No joke.

He says that his method acting began when he was a shunned half jewish kid in Ireland who spent his days absorbed in fantasy worlds.

* Just checked IMDB:

-Daniel Day-Lewis insisted on remaining in his wheelchair in between takes.

-According to the "Making of My Left Foot" segment on the Special Edition DVD, Daniel Day-Lewis broke two ribs during filming from assuming the hunched-over position in his wheelchair for weeks of filming. He also would refuse to come out of character. On visits to the set canteen, other people would have to help him with food. On one visit from his English agent, Day-Lewis again refused to come out of character as Christy Brown, and his frustrated agent took off.

this one was great as a regular movie tho. this wasnt even really that weird or off color or anything.

i wasnt implying that you were dumb in any way for not liking the same movie that i liked. it just irks me when the main thing people dont like about a movie is that it has no traditional intro, problem, climax, resolution format.
