^ he could have saved himself in any number of ways, like swimming out the window, or simply going outside the door and closing it behind him.

(not to mention, the room wouldn't really have filled with water anyway. once the water came in to level with the top of the window, it would have stopped filling because the air above that point would have nowhere to go, like of like putting a cup or glass mouth-down into a bucket of water how water doesn't go in it)

but he was convinced by Desmond's vision that he had to die, and that if he didn't turn off the signal and die then the others wouldn't be rescued. i.e. he was convinced that if he turned off the signal, then saved himself, something else would have prevented them from getting rescued, but as long as he died it would go through as planned. He said as much several times, like when Desmond tried to go into the Pearl first and Charlie knocked him out with an oar, because Charlie knew it was his job and he was going to die in the process.

^^what I don't get (and was reminded of it last night) is why the fuck charlie didn't LEAVE the room and then close the door before the grenade went off. B/c it was clear that he had plenty of time.

I thought it was because of the strike?

nah, they announced that the final 4 seasons, from 2007-2011, would all be shortened to 16 episodes well before the strike.

I think this was because how Abrahms and the writers wanted the pacing and plots to fill-out until the end, and I guess they felt 4 seasons of 22 eps each was too much and would require too much filler.

IIRC Abrahms wanted to finish it in 3 seasons and ABC wanted 4 so basically it was always the same number of shows, just spread out over more seasons. I believe the issue with the strike was that there was concern that they'd only be able to do 8 episodes because that is all they had written.

pretty sure this is as old as the earth but has anyone watched Lost online through ABC's website using the Enchanced edition? Basiclly it just flashes text on the screen while you are watching that gives you the background info on different people, whats happening, and general info you wouldn't know just by watching the episode. ITs pretty cool if you've already seen the episode and are rewatching. I'm watching through the looking glass now before season premiere starts.

So obviously that flash forward was before the last one...since Jack hadn't grown his beard yet and gone nuts about returning to the island...

also...my prediction is that they are "famous" b/c everyone thought they were dead.
however, they were sorn to secrecy about not telling what happened on the island...

Enjoyed the premiere. Nothing to mind-blowing but I really liked the way the end was setup. Who would go with at that point? Choose your own adventure like woah!

it's not really a prediction when they reveal exactly that during the episode

Theres no way that coffin was big enough for Hurley. He would need to go on the south beach diet at least to trim down to that coffin size.

I predict Jack grows a beard and will attempt suicide.

That and I'm pretty sure that Jack wouldn't be the only one to go to Hurley's funeral. Kate probably would have gone. Also, who do you think made it off the island? Hurley said he was one of the Oceanic 6, meaning that there are only three others that made it off other than him, Jack, and Kate. I'm thinking Sayid is too much of a good guy to make it off, Sawyer is obviously Kate's interest, so not him either.

(Does the 6 include Michael and Walt?)

From last seasons finale. Someone was in a coffin and jack was the only one who went to see them.

I also have a theory about the scene they keep showing on the "upcoming episodes" reels. THe one with hurley making all the graves in the sand.

I think that only 6 got off the island because they only told the "rescuers" about 6 people. Jack and them claimed that the other people died, and faked the burial sites.

Its probably not even close to the truth, but its fun to pretend.

When Hurley is playing Horse with Jack he says "I think he wants us to go back", I think who ever "he" is and it's not Ben, is in the Coffin. I also agree that only six wanted to leave, the rest found a way to stay without allowing the outside world to know they are still alive.

Also where did that still come from of Jacks dad and is it photoshopped?

Finally, did anyone tivo the commercials from the show after Lost. They had a Oceanic fake commercial that had the same guy from the http://www.find815.com website federal posted on page one. I bet the non lost fans where like WTF cause it was very cryptic.

that picture does look a little photoshoped, but it's not a stretch, on the site i like to go to they had a screen cap up that clearly showed "jacob" wearing white tennis shoes and a tie. Very much like mobisode 13, where the camera really focuses on Christian Shepard's shoes. Coencidence? Not on Lost. I'm not sure what that means or where they're going, but could Christain be Jacob? Seems like it was him in the chair, either way.

[Edited on February 1, 2008 at 12:26 AM. Reason : that's from the site, not photoshoped because i rewound my dvr, this is very much what you see ]

double post, after looking at the screen cap and the earlier posted of the very clearly, well lit veiw of Jacob, it's a photoshop. if you look, lots of things around the head don't match, so it was rushed.

most of those artifacts in the picture would/could come from the filtering to lighten it up.
I have it torrenting right now, and will be able to grab a clean screen shot tomorrow straight from the video file

Hurley used "it" as the pronoun.

heh, didn't realized the thread was this active still.

add a couple carots to that response and it won't seem like such a randomly obvious statement.

the guy in the coffin at the funeral home was jack's dad.

also the 8min rendition of lost is perfect. i would rather have watched that than waste my time with the stupid things going on in the show.

The person in the coffin is not Jacks dad. And the Oceanic Six is probably Jack, Kate, Hurley, Jin, Sun (I doubt they will do another baby birth on the island, especially one that results in her death), and either Juliet or Sayid since they both stayed with Jack. What I'm wondering is how Hurley ended up leaving the other group to get to Jacks group since he seemed so strongly against Jack. I have a feeling its not till the end of this season that they will get rescued, a lot more has to happen.

you couldn't be more wrong. he specifically says in that episode that the dead person is neither friend nor family.

the premiere was just what I expected...a lot more questions and very few, if any answers. that's LOST for you I guess.

oh, and Lt. Daniels' (i.e. "Oceanic lawyer" in the mental hospital) character was creepy as fuck, yo.

Another thing to remember concerning the person in the coffin is that when Jack confronts Kate outside of the airport he questions her why she didn't show and she basically responds with why would she. It leads me to believe just as Jack said at the funeral home it was definitely not someone who was a friend of theirs. Possibly someone from the others, or the group now coming onto the island.

i watched the premier with some people who just got into Lost last season. I really enjoyed it, but at the end, they said "what? is that is?"

i mean, what were you expecting? It's the first episode of a 16-episode season. Did you just think the helicopter would land and everybody would get on and leave and that would be it?
